Certainly looks suspicious, his manoeuvres at 04:30 in the video where he's slightly sliding back his 2 front ships looks dodgy not to mention practised!.

Maybe he was cheating, maybe he wasn't.
It's difficult to know intent, when all we see is a small template displacement.
The moral of the thread - watch what your opponent is doing.
Looks to be deliberately trying to keep his front 2 ships in range 2 so he can use his torps to me... It's such a deft slight of hand used to do it too
Edited by JamzIt does look a little dodgy for sure - watch opponents closely is deff wise.
In this case he knocked the ship back a little as he placed the template then knocked the template back a little as he placed the ship - he repeated this with his second ship but then the 3rd ship which clearly would have no issues he managed to do with no fudging at all. Both ships at the front would have been R1 if there was no fudging and would not have been able to us the torps. Would have done much less damage to the shuttle.
looks dodgy especially how he moves the 3rd ship totally different..... holding it in place before placing the movement template.
Moral of the story: He shot 2 torps that should have been R1 shots. I don't know what he was thinking moving 4 forward with 2 ships either...

Jeap but he got Palp out the way real quick this way. Giving him a massive advantage (didn't watch it to the end to see if he won )
I don't even see what the OP is talking about. Looks like he just moved them like normal.
Edit: now I see it

Yep, clearly sliding the ship and/or template backward as he places the template and picks up the ship.
It seems to be just his shaky hands applying a little too much force on the template and the ship base to make them flush against each other. It happens all the time, especially when you are blindly trying to adjust the maneuver template in front of your ship and don't have a visual reference for your fingers to know when to stop pushing.
Seriously, his opponent totally knocks the shuttle out of place by several cm when they are measuring the range of the shot, so by the RAW, it wouldn't have mattered at all, since he could have had the last word about where Palpatine was to be for that shot.

If you really think that, try and slow the speed down to .5 and look again at 04:30.

I watched it a couple more times. I can't really tell on the first one but can now see it on the second one for sure. I think the part where he more openly cheated was when the imperial player bumped his lambda and he stuck his ruler in there to prevent him from putting it back in the same spot. Looked like it was range 1 to begin with. Still something that'd be hard to prove on both situations. I would like to think on the movement he didn't mean to do that. I know sometimes when I go to move small ships when I press the base down the ship moves just a little unintentionally, maybe this player has a problem a similar problem with his template holding. I'd like to think so at least.

Two first jumpmasters are clearly moved (4:30- 4:42) very differently than the 3rd jumpmaster (4:46-4:50). For the first he uses the template to slide the jumpmaster backwards before moving it (4:30-4:37). For the second (4:37-4:42) he moves the template backwards when placing it also. Whereas for moving the last jumpmaster (4:46-4:50) he holds a finger ontop of the ship to prevent it from sliding.

There is ever so slight backwards movement of the front 2 Contracted Scouts when he places the movement template. Hard to say if it's intentional, but as has been mentioned, the third Scout is moved differently. As everyone has said, keep a close eye on your opponent and dont be polite if a person appears to be doing something wrong.

Ouija boards are based on sub-conscious movement. So yeah, hard to tell if he just really, really did not want to fly into R1 or planned to cheat. Either way he ended up in R1 until his opponent was so nice to hit his own shuttel and allowed R2. And they say "fly casual" is dead. ,-)
Needs to go on the suspicious list.
This sort of stuff happens, no one is Vassel perfect.
In fact, it actually makes me really anxious about having any of my matches recorded for fear of having an entire thread dedicated to how someone uses their templates/rolls their dice/what tokens they use to represent what.
I am messy dice roller and I often nudge my ships slightly, especially in a fur ball or when I am having to reach all the way across the table, the fact that there are some people that would actually think I am doing that on purpose to gain an advantage is a little bit ridiculous.
Talk about sucking the fun out of something.

You make a very valid point but it just seems (with the joys of modern technology) the he knowingly or unknowing got a minor advantage from an imperfect manoeuvre..... I often bump ships and asteroids but that's because I'm a giant bumble foot..... This wont be the first lynch mob here that hunts down an accused cheat.

I dread the time I end up on stream for exactly this reason.

No, just clumsy AF.

part of the reason I say i don't want my games recorded ..... people dont like that and get suspicious straight off the bat. but it is getting kind of stupid that at a normal tournament every 3rd game is being recorded (probably in attempts just to catch a cheat).
I think the only fair thing to do is hang draw and quarter him them send the bits to the four corners of the world.
Too close for me to call. It certainly was to his advantage to be sloppy in moving those two boats up, but again, he is just as sloppy elsewhere in the match, even when it clearly would have made no difference... so... I'll say maybe?
Oh come on, too close? You can see him shove the ship backwards when he places the template, then shove the template backwards when he places the ship. Then he does the third ship with the utmost precision. This was clearly a too convenient "mistake" for it to be called a mistake. This is a clear example of cheating.

I have no doubt of this being wrong doing. The imperial player's shaky hands and accidents are in stark contrast to the malevolent maneuver manipulation shown here.
Edited by ArttemisWell in all fairness when one glimpses the sleek glistening glory that is the space cow in it's natural environment... It's only natural to tremble and take a step back. It's science.
I have no idea why people are being so optimistic about this player's intentions. Over a series of six interactions between a base and a maneuver template, the first four, which are the only ones where the player in question would benefit from the ships not moving as far, all resulted in the reduction of the distance that the ships move forward in the exact same manner. Then, the final two interactions are perfectly clean.
He let the need to win get the better of him and he cheated. And, if being a cheater is not a serious enough flaw in this individual, he was dumb enough to do it while being recorded.
