Disney should set up a Shadows of the Empire relaunch to bring it back into canon.

By joyrock, in X-Wing

Re-release the book

Remake the game

Announce a movie

Announce related expansions or content for every Star Wars game they have.

For X-Wing, they could do a scum expansion featuring fixes or tweaks for the Starviper and Firespray.

Imperial Assault could have tons of additions possible.

Not sure what Armada could get though >.>;

Jason Momoa for Dash Rendar! Hands down. He would make a ******* wicked Dash Rendar.

Gary Oldman should voice Leebo.

Xizor though... who plays him? I'm thinking Tom Hiddleston.

Sounds good to me. Not like there's anything in SotE that goes against the new canon. It's in exactly the right spot timeline-wise to not contradict any of the new stories. And with a Falleen-dominated Black Sun already being canon, having Xizor re-canonized would make sense.

I remember reading it when it came out and having Ed Wasser in mind (Morden from Babylon 5). He could switch seemlessly from smooth and and charming to dangerous. Mind you, that was 20 years ago.

Tom Hiddleston would be great and he already works for the Mouse....

I'm pretty sure there's a YT-2400 in the Rebels Season 3 trailer, so.....you never know.

And with a Falleen-dominated Black Sun already being canon, having Xizor re-canonized would make sense.

There'd even be potential to tie Xizor into Clone Wars with a story that shows him rising to power after the decapitation of Black Sun's previous leadership by Darth Maul.

I could get behind it, though they'd have to write Dash to remove him from Han Solo's shadow, and not the Empire's. Audiences that don't know Star Wars will be confused by the similarities.

The thing about that is Lucasfilm makes the creative decisions. Not Disney.

I think this would be awesome...if they kept the best parts from the book in the movie (not limited to, I'm thinking, of Vader's attempts to heal himself and the battle at the Vergesso Asteroids) the movie would be great. SotE is one of my favorite EU books. It added depth to Vader's character, I think.

However, Luke has his green lightsaber (he builds it during the course of the book) and if I remember correctly there is also reason to think he didn't build it until he arrived at Tatooine prior to ROTJ as there are deleted scenes in ROTJ of him apparently finishing his lightsaber there.

I suppose that could be easily rectified but that's at least one issue (of a few, I am sure) that would have to be addressed.

Ed Wasser could totally still work.

Man this idea is making me squeee

I liked most of Shadows of the Empire with the exception of Dash Rendar.

The writer was trying too hard to make him cool, and instead of being cocky he was just plain obnoxious. If they could just tone him down a little with a bit of "been there done that"-ishness it would have been darn near perfect.

You know more of "I got this." as opposed to "I'm awesome! Did you see how awesome I am? Because I'm awesome this will be too easy! There, I did it because I'm awesome." Between that and the overly large laser cannons on the Outrider, I might suggest that ol' Dash was compensatin' for something.

^This.

I loved SotE. I nearly squealed when the video game FINALLY made it to GOG. However, as much as I liked the story and the game, Dash was too over the top. I thought I was the only one who found him annoying.

They can even re-write it and make it a little bit better. Then again, who says they aren't planning on doing this? We will have Star Wars movies for years to come...

The obvious problem with filming SotE is recasting the multiple characters who are in it. Mark Hamil and Carrie Fisher are not going to be playing 20-something Luke and Leia again.

Fun as it would be, they might be better off telling a parallel story in that timeframe as they are doing with Rogue One.

Making a live action movie would be problematic, unless they're planning to recast Luke, Leia, and Lando like they have Han. Now, an animated movie could work nicely.

They will eventually recast those characters. Might take 20 years, but they will do it.

The book is still in print, why would they re-release it?

Jason Momoa would be the perfect Dash Rendar because he is so visibly different from Harrison Ford. I mean, racial background aside the two actors are just so different in their styles and personalities. I think it would be a role Jason Momoa would really do well.

You know who else would make a great Leebo? Brent Spiner! Data, from Star Trek. He would be great as Leebs.

As for getting around the whole Luke Leia and Lando thing... well the film could simply follow the Dash vs Xizor/Black Sun arc more closely and simply ignore the parts with Luke and Leia, leaving those segments to the books and comics. As for Lando... well sorry Billy Dee, but we're going to need another charming young black man to take your place. There is no shortage of talented young black actors who need the exposure.

Or... or! We could do a Dash Rendar origins story, something that leads up to the SOTE events. I mean, if you've read about Dash Rendars past it's a pretty involving tale...

It wouldn't be very hard to do the same basic story, leaving out the 'main characters'. The overall story is the Black Sun organization attempting to gain favor with the Emperor by playing against Vader's search for his son. Obviously Vader doesn't find Luke, so not having Luke in the story isn't a problem. Vader and Boba Fett* can be included easily enough (for obvious reasons). Dash, Leebo, IG-88, and Xixor are new characters.

It wouldn't actually be that hard to do.

* Indeed, it might be in queue, already - the next movie after the standalone Han Solo film is supposedly a Boba Fett film. No word on the period of that one - obviously post-Episode II and pre-RotJ, but that covers a lot of ground...

Really, I don't even think the Boba Fett movie needs to be post-ESB. There's more to him than his hunt for Han, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Han Solo movie itself covers a lot of that.

I think it could make for a solid Rebels season. Post Yavin, some crew are dead butt he Rebellion grows. Bring Dash as a new main character, viola.

Paul Heaver play Dash Rendar pls.

Eh....if you're looking to totally redesign Dash, Momoa is a solid choice. If you wanna keep him closer to the original design, Chris Pratt would work nicely.
