What's your guess for the Fang's dial?

By pickirk01, in X-Wing

If it doesn't have a green sweep across all the 2-speed maneuvers how could it look like a FO/Interceptor dial?

Or

If it doesn't have all green 2-speed maneuvers I'm changing from getting four of them to getting none.

I'm torn between two comments.

WHat if it had all 1s or all 3s?

Or 1 hard and 2 bank/straight, 3 straight?

I'm thinking it may be more limited to fast moves - we know it has a speed 3 turn, which is actually **** near unique for Scum: the Khiraxz, Aggressor, Starviper, Scyk and Jumpmaster all don't.

So I can see a 'good' dial but one limited to high speeds, just because it's a concept we've not seen to date; of the four 'really moves!' ships we've seen.

  • TIE advanced prototype has exceptional slow speed
  • TIE interceptor & TIE/fo have good medium speed
  • TIE defender has good straight-line (at any speed) but doesn't turn

To make a unique dial, my suggestion:

  1. No Maneuvers! (Maybe a White Straight only)
  2. White Turns, White Banks, Green Straights, Red Tallon Roll
  3. Green Turns, Green Banks, Green Straights
  4. White Straight, Red Koiogran Turn
  5. White Straight

The resulting dial is 'a lot like an Interceptors', but in the same way that a Khiraxz' is 'a lot like an X-wing' - the same broad 'shape' but the greens are slid around.

The resulting ship still has a green turn to use Push The Limit, but has a downside that (for example) a canny TIE Advanced Prototype can exploit - you can turn inside it.

Yeah, it's pretty much a TIE/FO with the reds juggled about, looks like.

Which is awesome, don't get me wrong, but we've got plenty of ships that PTL their speed 2 greens all over the place, so I was hoping for something a touch more... exotic. Maybe a Scyk dial with green hard 1s, for instance; losing a TAP's 1 straight for a pair of green banks might be technically more greens, but would certainly change the way it flies without being much stronger.

Kind of odd, honestly - It's not just arc-dodging's bonuses that lead to A-wings not flying into the teeth of the dragon; it's that without the speed 1 maneuvers it's honestly hard to be a knife-fighter who's repeatedly landing range 1 attacks. It's very... conservative, when even the rebels-era TAP decided to be relatively funky.

...Still gonna buy one and fly Fenn with it, though. ;)

Oh yeah, SOOO MANY. Interceptor, TIE/fo, A-wing, and..... um..... oh JM5K has one green 2-speed turn, and....... um........

And really, how often do you see PTL on the TIE/fo? Maybe in a Palp-aces list with Omega Leader? Maybe my local meta is weird, but I've only seen PTL on that ship once or twice. Of course, it's ALWAYS on A-wings and Interceptors, but Scum doesn't yet have that sort of arc-dodger. Fang will be their first.

No 1-speeds would be horrible. TIE fighters have a tough enough time as it is.

Red 1-speeds would be interesting though. Especially with Kad Solus' ability; I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of red on the dial with him in mind.

You tend not to see PTL on a /fo because they don't have the repositioning options open to them, and because they get their action economy from Comm Relay. NOt because thier dial can't handle stress, which it does pretty much as well as the Squint or A-wing.

And because the most common elite one you see is OL and lol if he's not taking Juke. He's more than willing to take stress to do what he does, just not from his EPT slot.

Where would the comparison with the Interceptor or TIE/fo dial be then?

If it's six greens and compared to interceptor/FO, then you're looking at an FO dial with sloops tossed out for T-rolls

5 greens at speed 2 (ie foward banks and turns), 1 at speed 3 (straight)

Personally hoping speed 3 greens do you can shout KAPLA!!! as you speed around in your sleek little deathtrap but the FO dial is dead ******* sexy and would disappoint only the most dillusional among us

Also Tie/FOs don't use ptl because they have 2 dice primaries and the only one who doesn't (Zeta L) CANT USE HIS ABILITY WITH PTL

Meanwhile Omega L is too **** good with juke relay, which leaves his dial open for sexy segnors

The preview keeps talking about quickly getting in your enemy's face and having a dial similar to Ints and TAPs. It also mentions 6 greens and it looks like you can see a 2 segnors 2 Talon Roll on the dial in the picture.

Would something like this be too crazy?

Reds - 2 left and right Talons, (4 K maybe also, since it would mesh well with the PS6 pilot)

White - 1 right and left hard, 2 left and right hards and banks, 2 straight, 5 straight (first ship in the game without a green 2 straight?)

Green - 3 right and left hards, banks and straight, 4 straight

Or maybe we get the 2 and 3 speed straights and banks all green.

What do you all think?

Edit: Zoomed the picture to see the Talon roll that I thought was a segnor's

Like others have stated, I'm hoping for all speed-3 maneuvers being green, because it would be different from any of the other "arc dodgers" out there, but I'm expecting all speed-2 maneuvers to be green. *le sigh*

I really hope it's NOT the 3 turns that are green. For a ship they keep trying to sell as wanting to joust and having multiple abilities that require range 1, it's gonna be really hard to keep range 1 after the first time you get there if your greens are speed 3. I was really hoping to see the fang be the first ship with multiple speed green turns on both sides (speed 1 and speed 3 would have been nifty) since it's supposed to be super maneuverable, but don't see that happening if it's only got 6 greens on the dial

I don't get why so may people seem to want the three turns to be green. That's great on something like a Y-Wing with a turret but for a ship that wants to get behind things and stay there, it's just too **** fast.

Simply put, people hope for it because it's interesting - much like my own grumbling all speed 2s is mechanically fine, but we've flown that dial since wave 2, y'know?

How about something weird - all green turns, but all banks and straights white? (T-rolls and K-turns red) That would force it to manuever sharply in order to shed stress, which would be a different style from most ships.

I guess I just don't see how getting a worse dial for the role you want a ship to fill makes it interesting.

That might be kind of interesting. It's almost like an inverted Defender dial at that point.

I think that dial would be the first ship in the game without a green two straight.

I'm generally not advocating for 'worse' but 'different' - my own hope, as noted, was a Scyk with hard green 1s. Basing off the Kithraxz vs X-wing, losing the green 1 straight for green 2 banks is a wash, but one that - compared to the Inquisitor - would've had pretty unique handling capabilities in a knife fighter.

But they've stated the dial is 'similar to an FO', and actually counted the number of greens out, so it's not that. At which point it's either all speed 2s (Which is almost certain at this point), or it's speed 3s (which is worse, but people hope for it because it's different). It wouldn't be speed 1s, because that would almost assuredly be 'similar to the TAP' rather than FO & Interceptor.

Well speed 3 green turns would be 'similar to an Unhinged Y-Wing' wouldn't it? :D

Honestly, I just want a Starviper dial with T-rolls instead of S-Loops, a long K-Turn, and maybe a bit more green. If I had to give up something it would be the "bit more green".

Sloops!

Because sloops are fun.

Red 1-speeds would be interesting though. Especially with Kad Solus' ability; I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of red on the dial with him in mind.

That would work, too. And good catch that it'd pair well with Solus' ability. Making him pointedly better than the higher PS pilots at close-in work (because he can Tallon Roll and Slow-Speed Turn better than them) gives him a distinct character that might even justify someone going "not PS 9 - can never use him because teh internetz say so"....

Yeah, the more I think about it the more red 1 stright/bank, white hard 1, green hard 2, 3 bank/3straight, 4-striaght, plus red 2 t-roll, 5k is sounding like a really interesting dial to play with.

Even a straight-up squint dial but with red 1-speed manoeuvres could be really entertaining.
