Protectorate starfighter, everything the Tie interceptor should have been.

By Knucklesamwich, in X-Wing

This wasn't funny the first time.

Squint dial with sloops is the TIE/fo

The 4 straight on the squint is green. On an FO it's white. I would guess that the Fang gets a 4 green straight, but that would give it more greens than it is supposed to have (assuming all 2 speed maneuvers and 3 straight are green).

5 straight is what I want to see along with all 2's being green.

I am assigning you two some homework of rereading my post. No where did I say the interceptor was bad. It's actually a great ship but there is only one pilot that sees the table for the most part. FFG made the scum version of the interceptor what I wanted the imperial ship to play like. That's my point and you missed it. I like both ships.

No reason you can't play more than one faction. As a veteran of plenty of minis games, some other faction ALWAYS has a cool model you wish was one of yours. You can either do without it, or pick up a second faction. I play Imperials, but will probably pick up some Scum eventually too, including 2-3 Protectorate Starfighters.

The way i see these two ships is loke this. They are both 'interceptors' meaning they excel at out manuvering their opponent and use their superior speed to out fly the opposition. Where they differ is the kind of interceptor they are. The Squint is a defensive interceptor relying more on its agility to stay away from/ dodge attacks (due to the evade action). The Fang is an offensive interceptor. It excels at attacking at breakneck speed and shooting down its opposition before it can return fire (TL instead of evade).

In a nutshell they are both ships that perform best at out flying the enemy. The main difference is one is meant to dodge the other to punch.

I'd personally argue that Soontir should be nerfed somehow, actually. He's meta-warpingly good.

I love the dude, but in my experience one stressbot will kill him and he has a tendency to whiff those 3 reds at the worse times possible.

The stress ot that disappeared overnight when wave 8 hit? If jumpmasters die off and the stressbot returns as something that can deal with whatever killed uboats, you might have a point, but in the current meta...

That said, Fickle ******* green dice

Every interceptor I touch turns to dust in my hands, and I never leave home without enough guaranteed damage to burn down at least two aces without ever actually attacking them :P

But I agree it's mostly jm5ks making these counters difficult to bring

So...bring jm5ks. They get 4lom AND feedback ANDDD they block like a dream come true :o

At long last someone gets it. Absolutely the never used interceptor was a missed opportunity in dire need of buffs. While we're at it, let's nerf the Mist Hunter.

Someone complaining that Tie Interceptors should be better?!?!?!? What a freakin' joke.

No, he's saying that the in-your-face high-risk jousting mechanics available to the Protectorate starfighter would've been thematically appropriate to the TIE Interceptor. And he's right, canonically that's the way TIE Interceptors tended to be flown. Despite being unshielded they used their speed and agility to fly right down the enemy's throat.

Nope, Nope, Nope.

TIE Interecptors should have simply come with a free integrated push the limit style title and that's it. They seem to be overcost on their generics and lack the ept which they need for double actions, which they need as well. That's all.

Agreed. And judging by the recent releases, I think its safe to say X-Wing 2.0 will feature ship-based abilities instead of relying on clumsy titles/mods. There a certain things a ship should be able to just do, such as the F/O's extra attack/die or Ints taking an extra action.

This thread is LULZ.

When it comes time to pick an Imperial Ace, If Soontir can fit, he is going on the list.

The only time he doesn't make my list is if i specifically choose to leave him off. And when i do so, I am flying very casual. For my play style and list combos, its simply really hard to justify not flying Soontir. He is one of, if not the most fun pilots to fly, and he does his thing like no other pilot can.

I could maybe agree that the generics are a point over costed, but really, there is no reason to field a Interceptor swarm or blocker over the lower costed Tie or Tie/fo.

I can understand WANTING to field an Interceptor swarm, as it would look awesome on the play mat, but its not necessary.

Yes sir! Remember the scene in ROTJ when the falcon is being swarmed by Tie's flying right into their face. That's what the pfighter can do that the tie's can't.
