Both Wave III and Wave IV are scheduled to arrive at retailers later in August?

By KAGE13, in Star Wars: Armada

Its very odd how this whole thing went down.

At the bottom of https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/7/22/swm-victory/ it says

"Both Wave III and Wave IV are scheduled to arrive at retailers later in August"

Splitting the wave up, the missing skew numbers, only to be wave 4....and now they are seemingly coming out at the same time (or even a week or 2 apart?)

I've been an FFG fan boy for 20ish years, and I've never seen anything as odd as all this.

May be I just didn't pay that close enough attention before.

I don't really care one way or another (as long as I get Tie Defenders :P ), just intrigued. I know cannot say anything but I'd sure like to be a fly on the wall leading up to those decisions.

And now the Corellian Campaign with 7 missing skew numbers in between? will see the same sort of thing and get Wave V at the same time?

5 SKUs.

Because Wave 3s SKUs are actually after Wave 4s... So if you're counting from the Interdictor/Liberty, yhou actually miss the Gozanti and G75s :D

My guess is production delays, or out right errors with molds, likely forced them to resort releases.

I have serious doubts that they intended to release Flotillas on their own.

Maybe they did maybe they didn't. Logically it makes sense now. Currently, Armada has more products released than X-Wing had in the same period. They might of split it up so that they don't go do far over that number and to give us 2 releases a year.

I was hoping flotillas would be out by now because I have some 's I want to play on a real table. . .

I would hate for both waves to come out within weeks of each other (can't believe I'm saying this) as it's better both for the wallet and for the playing community to have more staggered releases to learn the implications and at least some of the permutations before having to do it all over again.

I was really hoping for flotillas to release for purchase this week and wave 4 like end of August.

Unfortunately the slowest boat in China apparently was set in reverse and no one noticed for what? a week? it's been like 9 weeks now "on the boat"

ha forgot about that. I totally looked at wave 4's numbers.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm mentally counting all this as one wave.

The only counting I'm doing is the days.

My current theory is that this was all supposed to be one wave. Then a lot of crates of Liberties and Interdictors got blown up in China. FFG announces wave 3 without the big ships because they know they can't make us wait for another year. Disney throws money at the production line to get the big ships out and to make sure Armada keeps making bank.

The evidence points to this all being the same wave.

I'll be at GenCon, so that will definitely be true for me.

Still got 66 days til release on Wayland games (UK). Reeeally hoping that's inaccurate...

That will be some funny press release: wave 3 and wave 4 at the same time!

My guess is production delays, or out right errors with molds, likely forced them to resort releases.

I have serious doubts that they intended to release Flotillas on their own.

Oh, they almost certainly did not.

The flotillas are clearly the same models released as components in the Rebellion board game. Rumors were circulating that the Interdictor was being beta tested as far back as last year.

I'm guessing (educated guessing, but still) that with production issues driving back the release of Wave 3 (now Wave 4) someone looked around, saw Rebellion over in the corner, and suddenly thought "why don't we find a way to use these really small ship models that were already producing?"

Queue several weeks of beta testing and finding that they brought some interesting changes to the game if given unique non-combat roles as their main game contribution. Suddenly, they had an easy way to add two products, didn't have to spend a ton of money on research or design of the new sculpts, and as a smaller release could announce it and possibly even release it earlier when store owners began asking when the new wave of product is coming out (and they were).

My guess is production delays, or out right errors with molds, likely forced them to resort releases.

Oh, they almost certainly did not.

So you're saying there's a chance (that the hiatus and lack of releases was due to production failure more so then questionable business strategy)?!

You have yet to prove any lack of releases. Stop spouting nonsense.

It does not matter what the intent was. It is just as possible that they did not want to push too many things at once and the higher ups decided to split it up. X-Wing had releases of 2 ships so it is not uncommon for us to get the same.

X-Wing Wave 2 --> Wave 3
Feb 28, 2013 --> September 12, 2013: ~7 months
Armada Wave 2 --> Wave 3/4
November 26, 2015 --> End of August is it? ~9 months
Therefore, the hiatus or dryspell is indeed true, especially when you consider recent releases. Even back in X-Wing Wave 2, they got their product faster. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with my statement :)
In fact, if their initial intentions was to release the Flotillas earlier, then that would have been technically, a faster wave than X-Wing :P But it didn't..

Sure, then we have wave 4 which you left out.

X-Wing

Wave 3 September 12 2013 --> June 26, 2014

9 months.

Overall length for X-Wing release to Wave 4 release: 21 months

Overall length for Armada release to wave 4 release: 17 months.

What's your point again?

It's pointless to argue that Armada is not getting the same level of attention as X-Wing. FFG is following a historical trend and being smart about releases.

Does this remind anyone else of Dane Cook's skit on nothing fights? I have to resist the urge of telling one of them to call the other a "tw*t".

We still don't have Wave 3 for Armada :) GJ supporting my point further, unless of course, you want to talk about how X-Wing got 8 ships in Waves 3/4 where Armada only has 4 (counting Flotillas as ships obviously). That's another story I'd be happy to explain if you really need it.
