Are blessings like "vs Target Injury Level" and "vs Target Critical's Severity the same as " vs Target Defence"?

I mean does it default to an "easy" difficulty or they supposed to be opposed? If it's an opposed test what value would you place a Target's Injury Level and a Target's critical severity?

I'm starting to think that any "vs" that doesn't oppose a characteristic is not an opposed test, is this true? I mean they default to a special rule of some sort.

Also, when a spell says something like you can cast this spell( or other actions) at +1 difficulty, does that just mean to add a challenge die?

"vs Target Injury Level" and "vs Target Critical's Severity" are Opposed checks and does NOT work the same as "vs Defense".

  • The value of a Target's Injury Level = the amount of Wounds the target has (including criticals).
  • The value of Target's Critical Severity = the number written in the bottom right corner of the crit card that is to be affected by the spell (if you read the spell you'll notice it targets a single crit card).

And the other question: Yes, +1 difficulty means you add a challenge dice.

Not quite. The value of the Target's Injury Level = Lightly Wounded: Easy [1d), Critically Wounded: AVerage (2d)

You're right. So with pages etc. it would be:

  • The value of a Target's Injury Level = Lightly Wounded: Easy [1d), Critically Wounded: AVerage (2d). (What Lightly/Critically Wounded means can be found in the upper right corner of p 63 Roleplay rulebook.)
  • The value of Target's Critical Severity = the number written in the bottom right corner of the crit card that is to be affected by the spell (if you read the spell you'll notice it targets a single crit card).

So "vs Target's Injury level" is like "vs Target Defence" in that it's not an opposed roll and a default difficulty based on Lightly wounded and Critically wounded?

but

"vs Target Critical Severity" is an opposed roll and the degree of the severity substitutes for the opposed characteristic?

Color me surprised that an opposed roll actually uses a non-characteristic...my intuitive understanding goes out the window:(

I was under the impression, after reading about healing, that

vs Critical Severity: difficulty Average (d2), based on Injury Level; must roll a number of success equal or greater than the critical's severity rating

Psst, they're not opposed rolls... The level just sets the amount of Challenge dice.

Opposed rolls are against statistics, and used by comparing the active party's relevant stat to the target's. Nothing like that going on here.

Oh so in the case of the Critical severity the severity rating number is the amount of challenge die rolled?

This would make more sense to me...

Spells that target Injury Level have a base difficulty of 1d if wounded, or 2d if critically wounded.

Spells that target Critical Severity have a base difficulty equal to the crit severity rating being targets.

No... To heal crits is an Average (2d) check, but to actually heal it (or suppress it for a while, etc) the number of successes, not challenge dice, must exceed the severity rating. it's just 2 challenge dice. And (1d) to heal normal wounds... In this edition there's not a requirement to heal critical wounds before normal wounds can be repaired.

So... severity rating 3 Critical Wound... Must roll 2 challenge dice with the check since it's a critical, and must get at least 3 successes to overcome that severity rating.

This is for healing and recovery though, not the specific magic spells the OP was originally referring to.

That's true, and in the case of a healing spell, you read the card to see what it does. But the difficulty of a healing spell vs wound level is almost certainly 1D for lightly wounded, and 2D for critically wounded.
