Prequel Ships With Prequel Factions

By gryffindorhouse, in X-Wing

This is a forum for prequel (separatist and republic) factions.

No, no I don't think so...

I'd be okay with subfaction. But the game doesn't need more primary factions.

We need a Seperatist Faction so I can have a Count Dooku crew.

the only reason to introduce another faction is to introduce another set of options bound together by a common theme or set of themes that also provides a restricted set of gameplay options that won't run the risk of being overpowered when combined with other faction offerings

don't think there's any rhyme or reason, both ito costs associated in designing and ito whatever we could possibly get through said design, to introduce prequel factions

salvaging prequel ships for existing factions should do just fine imo

The prequels aren't good, and they don't count as Star Wars.

I'd be okay with seeing the Separatist faction as a sub-faction to Scum, akin to Resistance for Rebels and First Order for Empire. But I personally think 3 main factions is plenty. Introducing the precedent for more and more factions could get real ridiculous real fast.

Don't be sh*tty. They remain official canon no matter how much they're hated, and I don't think anybody truly believes there was *nothing* good in the prequels. There are plenty of people whose introduction to Star Wars was the prequel trilogy, so they may have nostalgia for it, and some people (myself included) can find at least *something* to enjoy in the prequels. We can't alienate those people.

Just remember to fly casual.

Factually incorrect, sir. Until the day Disney officially declares the prequels to be "not Star Wars," the Prequels will continue to be just as Star Wars as A New Hope .

Ah...I hadn't thought of the Sepratists as a sub for Scum. With organizations like the Trade Federation making it up, the Sepreatists could fit in quite well with Scum.

That's what I was thinking. I really don't think we need a 4th faction, as Empire, Rebels, and Scum really covers just about everything: both sides of the Galactic Civil War, and the underbelly who are independent of the conflict. A lot of the characters the Separatists would utilize, like Grievous, Viceroy Gunray, or Dooku, absolutely wouldn't fit with Empire or Rebels. They do fit a lot better with Scum, though.

This is fair. I mean, Natalie Portman was still hot. And those droid fighters were cool looking until they started walking. And several of John Williams' score pieces are every bit as iconic as music from the original trilogy. And, uh, well, uh. Oh. And the Plinkett reviews.

Myself and a few others have mentioned it before, but I think the most ideal solution if they would ever add prequel factions, is to create new main factions of Light Side, Dark Side, and Scum.

Light Side would have subfactions of Rebels, Resistance, and Republic.

Dark Side would have subfactions of Empire, First Order, and CIS.

Scum would stay the same. They seem to have already passed the point of adding subfactions (a black sun one would have been cool though).

I like it. But that does raise the question of who then gets the Republic. Themeticly, I think they'd fit in best with the rebels, but the Republic turned into the Empire, so...

Yeah, I've thought about that. I don't have an answer.

Yes, we can alienate those people. This game has successfully done it for 8 waves now. Hopefully it will be discontinued before we get the chrome banana in the game.

Not saying that it is going to be official, its not, but it would be fun, at least for casual use, that's all its for.

Indeed. And I would prefer we keep it that way. 100%, always house ruled for those who enjoy the prequels enough to go to those lengths.

I'm not talking about the lack of expansion packs. I'm talking about the community. There's a difference between critique and insult. Don't insult people by saying something they may love doesn't matter.

"Yes, we can alienate those people." Christ, man. Don't be toxic. Fly casual. Don't force people out of the community just because they find things to like in movies you don't.

The originals are better of course, but the prequels are good to.

Up until I started playing Warmachine/Hordes, I thought the idea of pre-quel ships in the pre-quel era being totally out of the question. But since having played that game, I can say I think that doing something similar to there style would be neat later down the road.

Republic and seperatists are their own major factions, but instead of focus, they use something else. (like the force tokens, except every ship has force tokens at the beginning of the round, and spends them to take certain actions or something.)

They would still use the same move templates, and there fore the dials would be comparable.

So you could have a seperate system, but still compatible with regular X-wing.

I think one of the biggest things that stand kind of in the way of pre-quel material coming to X-Wing is, as odd as this might sound, marketability. As toyetic as the prequels were, there just has been no focus on them, from the business standpoint, for quite some time now. And looking back, the most iconic thing I can really come up with from the prequels is Maul's lightsaber.

Unless we see some sort of major resurgence of prequel era material coming out of Disney, I dont think we'll see much in X-Wing from that period beyond a trickle effect of a ship or two.
