Is this "official" confirmation of a Death Star Turret expansion?

By JJFDVORAK, in X-Wing

As recently shown in another thread, the official Star Wars Facebook page as well as their Instagram showcased Xwing miniatures game which was awesome. My biggest take away from the picture they posted was the Death Star turrets shown in one shot. I take it as a good sign that we might finally be getting the much wanted turrets as I don't think they usually put "un-official" products in their model case. I don't know how to link to pictures, so I'll link to the other thread.

I know I've seen that Death Star surface with the turrets before on the forums. I think it's just FFG's demo table top for the game.

They've used the Death Star turrets since before they officially released X-wing. They use them for demos. They have yet to make them available for purchase.

I don't feel like digging through the old forum stuff from 2012, but the gencon 2012 pictures are somewhere in a post (probably asking the same thing about the turrets).

Those turrets are too small to be any type of playable miniature. I bet it acts more like an obstacle.

I stopped by the FFG booth at SDCC and they had the demo table set up with all the turrets on it. I mentioned to them how cool they were and how much i'd love to see a pack of them released as an expansion but while they agreed that it would be very cool, they weren't really sure how to integrate it into the game in a way that would make a lot of sense and also acknowledged that they weren't necessarily tournament friendly game additions so I think it's safe to rule this out for at least another 6 months.

Well maybe with them releasing the Corellian Conflict expansion for Armada maybe they could release a X-wing campaign expansion like it that included new obstacles including the Cannons/turrets, hopefully as miniatures.

there are already lots of rules and 3d printable things out there for the death star but and offical set would be nice....... although i think that the image is just fluff for a advertising

It shouldn't be too hard for them to figure out how to integrate them into the game, since so many people have already done so with great results. It makes me wonder if their response was actually just a coded or polite way of saying "We don't care about the turrets and have no interest in doing anything with them." I'll remain hopeful that we'll see some down the road.

There already is a 3rd party product that is the same thing. I'm pretty happy with my paper ones.

Just for info 1/270 scale the smaller Death Star that appears in New Hope would be 590m across... That is over half a kilometer.....

You're thinking of the second Death Star, the first was only 120 kilometers across, meaning at 1/270 scale it would be a much more reasonable 444.4 meters, or a little under half a kilometer.

Who was present at the booth?

This stuff has been around for three years gang... this picture has been around at least a year... and NO it is not an indication of a forthcoming FFG product at all.

Well, in that case, I'll take two! I'm going to want to repaint one.

I'm just going to wait until they put out the Death Star Veteran pack with a Royal Guard paint job, otherwise I just KNOW I'll botch the paint job on the second...
