SW Roleplaying Dice

By new3, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I am going to GM an opening adventure this week to a campaign which will start in January 2017. I purchased two SW Dice Apps for both my iPhone and Samsung Galaxy today. A while back I bought a physical set of dice, also. I think most of the players will buy the app for either their phone or tablet. Also, I plan to let players use my Galaxy tablet, if they are interested. So, if I decided to buy another set of physical dice, how many more sets would I need? I will probably have, on average, around 4 PCs each week. I might have upwards of 6 ort 7 PCs later in the game. So would two sets of physical dice be okay for that size group? Or is it just better to stick with the SW Dice App?

Well I bought all three Beginner box sets which include a set of those dice, used the stickers given with the edge of the empire beta as well as bought a spare set of star wars dice along with one of the star wars dice app only run the edge beta adventure so far and I think you're going to have more luck running or playing games on that front than I will!

Keep the dice app as a backup in case you can't carry everything to your next game session!

Two lots should be fine but be careful to keep them separate from your players dice so there's no confusion on whose dice they are.

Thanks!

If your game goes on for a while, you will find a 3rd set useful. My PC's have 300+- earned XP, and they and their nemeses are starting to need the 3rd set on some rolls. Usually red dice, since they only give 1 per pack. But I have had some rolls with 4-5 blues. 1 of my players regularly gets 5 or more blues on a ranged light attack. (Aim 2x, Accurate 2x, occasional situational bonuses)

I think I bought three sets, just to play with, while trying to learn how this system works, and I'd say they were enough. The only dice I MIGHT come up short on are the red d12s, and seriously, I shouldn't really need that many of THOSE. My biggest grumble was, at the time, opposed roles, where you might need to have enough for two people to each role, and if I didn't want to take notes on what I rolled, before letting them roll the same dice, that was going to be a pain, so I bought several sets, and later the app, for my phone, and tablet. Personally, I have a weird appreciation for rolling the actual dice, sort of like owning the real book, over a pdf, so your mileage may vary.

The game is made for one player and GM each have a set... So two sets of dice. With two sets you won't have to reroll anything 90% of the time. Two sets will be no problem for a table. (I have 5 because I'm just that way lol)

Yeah, if I have the way the dice work, you usually don't need too many sets. Barring NPCs, some later power-builds in F&D, or home-brewing, even the Force dice won't be needed in too large a quantity, and even if you get really good at something, the way you promote dice, which returns the lesser dice to the pool, to get tossed in elsewhere, should keep you good. Not sure with the blue and black dice; I have no idea how easily that can skyrocket in a pool, barring Edgookin's example above.

I had 7 players then 6 now 5 for the foreseeable future (the 6 to 5 is because one is getting married in august, which is a big life change, and he expects to have less free time), I have 7 packs of dice... 6 packs are usually sufficient (3 sets on each end of the long table) to avoid too much passing of dice. I have an 8th (unopened) pack dice, I plan to get 2 or 3 more to put up for a gift for someone in the future (maybe to my not as yet conceived children) to give sometime after the game goes out of print and dice are hard to find.

I have five sets, soon to be six with The Force Awakens begginers game. It is useful to have a pile of dice in the middle of the table that all the players can pull from for their various rolls, without constantly having to pass dice around. It's also nice for everyone to be able to roll the initial force points simultaneously. Yes, you certainly can work with less, but I don't think you'll regret having numerous dice, especially if you end up with them from all the begginer games.
