A bit of trouble with designing a space encounter

By Ryu, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

Hi

I'm currently designing an adventure for my players.

In essence it starts with them going on the hunt for a man who holds knowledge they seek. They hear that he is travelling on the Estelle (a CV90 passenger transport) towards a planet and fly their themselves. On the way they overhear an emergency call by the Estelle that they are attacked.

The plan is that an inquisitor also wanted the knowledge of the man and used a vindicator heavy cruiser to fly there, board the ship and take the man.

The vindicator shall be gone by the time the players arrive, but a few ties and 1 lambda shuttle are still there as they are not sure if allies of the man are coming or not. And to

round up the last survivors to see if anyone they need alive is still on the ship before they blow it up.

Now my problem is that tie fighters are not known for their ability to operate alone. So another ship would be needed to transport them and here I'm at a loss a bit.

The question is here: What type of ship would be suited for getting the ties and the last lambda and jump to the destination of the cruiser?

(the players only have shilouette 3 ships themselves so they can fight 1-2 ties without problem but not a whole cruiser or full carrier).

A Gozanti freighter fitted with external docking clamps can hold 4 or 6 TIEs, I believe. Although that could be a handful for a group of player in starfighters. Another option is to replace the TIEs with a couple of Assault Gunboats. Both these ships are in Fly Casual.

The assault gunboats are they much in use by the empire? and are they not stronger than 2 ties? or am I mistaking things?

The gozanti is cool tnx! that should fit the bill quite good (and the players are meant to flee from it anyway when it appears :) )

From the way you're describing was the ship already docked when the Inquisitor caught up with him?

Would it make more sense to have them find the ship drifting in space and when they go aboard they find it in shambles as the Gozanti jumps insystem and launches it TIEs initially appearing to be responding to the attack on the drifting ship.

Its when half of the fighters focus on blowing up the drifting ship after your players escape aboard their ship having initially only 2 TIEs in pursuit and if they stick around the others will pursue with the Gozanti following up.

Maybe have the Gozanti pick up the TIEs and turns up again until they manage to destroy that ship a sort of recurring nemesis if you like?

Originally it was planed that only the boarding team and an escort are there as they got the "jedi" already and are only making "clean ship".

The players will find on board that the guy was headed to a different planet to find a secret location and the guy that took him mentoined the same location.

The transport was only planed as a first "nemesis" to make them run and show them they cant solve everything with firepower alone.
