Question for you Chem nerds: what's the challenge coin made of?

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

Anyone know?

Had someone say it could possibly be pewter which has lead in it, and that it would be wise to not fiddle with it too much and then eat or other things.

Pretty sure we can find the volume and the mass of a coin and guess the metal?

Also does anyone know the amount of lead in pewter?

Lastly. Does anyone have any ideas what to do with one of these? :)

the chemical composition is actually very simple

challenge coins are made out of 100% pure challenge

By law, if they contained something that was damaging to health (such as lead) then they would have to state so. The kits do not.

Nickel plated something. Not pewter.

I haven't examined it closely, but my guess would be zinc. Don't wanna take the knife and carve in it, but the weight and hardness seems to be about the same. Also there's no health issue with zinc like nickel allergy or heavy metals like led.

Someone should warn people who have old time pewter mugs...

Pewter doesn't contain lead anymore. Pewter has always been mostly Tin though.

I'd probably guess steel personally based on the weight of them, but I don't own one to try to find out for sure. Wolfram Alpha will probably be able to give you a good guess if you want measure the volume and mass though.

Does a magnet stick to it? If yes, some kind of Iron, if no then some kind of alloy.

Just tested. Not magnetic at all.

I just cut three in half. Nickel plated, gold core.

Use them instead of the Initiative token from the Force Awakens set.

When you need to determine who has Initiative with equal points lists, flip them and call heads or tails.

Just mind the crater the impact is sure to leave

Challenge is heavy

That's why you catch it and slap it over onto the back of your hand, like any self-respecting tosser would.

Self-respecting tosser is a bit of a misnomer if you're British :P

You say that but a guy who i was playing in the Norwich Regional (was playing trip scouts) used them for all his shield counters lol

Yes, I'm British, I was aware of the implication lol

I only wish I could make it to that many tournaments. Four in twelve months just ain't enough :(

Nickel and zinc.

Lol. Oh well. No one actually tried to measure it. =P

If you say please I'll dig out my old science books and do some maths. :P

Pleeeeease. <3

I just realized I lack a pretty important thing in this context, a scale...

Sooo, if someone would have the courtesy to measure the weight I'll take care of the rest, I have everything I need except for the weight. ^^;

well are different versions out there the first ones are an alloy of Mitheral, Adamantium and Unobtainium, but because you need to cold forge it using dragons breath they got kind of expensive to make . the newer one are made a lot cheaper and use plastisteel because thats more star wars :)

It's probably plasteel.
