Best way to make Imperial Huge Ships reliably hit?

By Shadow345, in X-Wing

Rebels have the Han Solo crew, but what is the Empire's best option?

Best I can think of is Turbolasers, Gunnery Team and Emperor.

Or Ordnance Tubes, Proton Torpedoes, Gunnery Team and Emperor.

Jonus has your re-rolls covered

can you fleet officer huge ships on top of that?

Target Lock.

Ramming speed.

Huge ships can't use focus if i remember, but they can use TL's so System on Jonus and Weapon Engineer so that system officer gives you 2 TL's not your primary can reroll twice and each secondary gets 2 rerolls

Man makes tie shuttle even worse eh?

Just JONUS then

Target Lock.

And Weapons Engineer.

Huge Ships cannot take free actions HOWEVER fortunately the free targetlock is not an action, as is backed up by numerous ways to get a TL while stressed. Jonus with Systems Officer is pretty good, though i dont think theres another crew you can put in there that would help the huge ships without being ON the huge ship.

I view Captain Jonus as a 22-point mandatory upgrade to any Raider that I run, he's just that good. Systems Officer on him can be great if you then leverage the Coordinate action, but if you don't plan on doing that, then you can just keep Jonus cheap.

Jonus.

Maybe he will not help with the Raider's primary weapon but the chance to reroll two dice on all of those secondaries is certainly useful.

Jonus is so effective that we ruled that Howlrunner-type abilities don't affect Huge ships.

Because let's be honest, a TIE bomber flying alongside being essential to its targeting systems is pretty daft.

No more daft than an infantry on the ground painting a target with a laser so that incoming airstrikes have pinpoint accuracy

No, definitely more daft than that.

  • It's just as far away from the target as the Raider is, if not more.
  • It has no inherent advantage over the Raider when it comes to targeting.
  • It's a TIE bomber.

The inherent advantage is it's JONUS

Also it's just a game. Gameplay >>>>> fluff

If you're creative you can make reasons for anything (like screw systems focus on coordination or something like Squadron commands in Armada)

Also, Epic is the natural home of ST-321 Jendon

Weapons Engineer, Impetuous, Ordnance Tubes, and Homing Missiles go a long way to making things blow up if you're flying a Raider.

If you're flying a Gozanti, just launch fighters and Coordinate and let them do the hitting. A Targeting Coordinator fits in nicely here to start passing out TLs to your TIE Fighters.

You guys don't seem to be aware of the complete array of synergy the Rebels have at their disposal: A CR90 with Jan Ors, Roark and Esege (/w Rec Spec) flying nearby. Rebel's don't even need Han Solo anymore.

Systems Officer will not make up for that, since you can either Target Lock/Coordinate with your Raider, might as well just put weapons engineer on it to begin with. And if you have target locks, are rerolls that useful? Sure, if you align it properly, you can have 2 primaries shooting, then each hardpoint at the enemy corvette. Not sure if it's enough to make it better.

The only build I can think of right now for the Raider uses ramming.

no more daft than a Corvette firing all it's weapons at PS12 because of dumb hwk

Think about it, range 5 don't even need to hit. And you regenerate shields of course a shield tech can help so you don't waste energy or get that repair droid.

But it also makes the Raider an easy target if you go wild with Vader: remember that damage from Vader isn't assigned to a particular section, so the opponent gets to choose which section of the Raider takes the two damage.
