RTL & Monster Activation Questions

By any2cards, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I once again had a chance to play RTL yesterday. Another excellent day.

We ran into multiple situations playing Kindred Fire where I was uncertain as to how to proceed. There were multiple times where an activation for a particular monster group instructed you to do something similar to:

"After each minion monster has gone, it does a move action and retreats".

Typically, each monster processes its list of action steps and performs two actions going top to bottom. Say for example a melee monster had this list of actions:

1) Engage the farthest hero.

2) Attack an adjacent hero.

Further, assume that a monster is able to actually do both 1 and 2 above. Now it has completed two actions, does it actually violate the rules of two actions and also performs the special section text of a 3rd action - the move action and retreat?

The above is a general example, but we ran into many situations were the special text at the top instructed you to do things that essentially violated the rules of D2e. Are you suppose to do all of them?

Yes, any "monster effect" that grants an extra action to monsters could "violate" the two action rules. For example, I have had Wendigos performing even 4 attacks each Wendigo! Because the monster effect said that after the attack the hero test [awareness] if fails the Wendigo performs an extra attack, and because it has reaver his second action can be another attack, but also applying the same effect, thus attacking 4 times (if the hero fails both test ofc).

So, yeah, those "monster effects" kind of grant an extra action in most cases, similar to the Overlord Cards.

Once again ... thanks for the feedback. As I stated in my other post today, I need to pay better attention sometimes to some of the threads that occur here. I didn't even know there was a RTL specific subforum created. :P
