Washington, DC/Northern VA/Southern MD (formerly "The East Coast Bias" meta)

Bump?

well bob and mike haven't been around, and stag has been limitinghimself to the NY thread (finally :P) so this doesn't get used a whole lot.

Its easier for us northen DE and PA guys to e-mail each other, but we still meet once a week.

So I was wondering if where any of your meetups occur is near Sterling VA and if you get together on weekends at all. My sister lives there now and although convincing my wife to let me head down to VA to game would not be an easy sell, I might have a bit more luck if it doubled as a trip to visit family.

Technical difficulties.... preocupado.gif (See my post below.)

I have been gloomy about the state of the game in recent months and haven't posted much on these forums, though a couple of us in northern VA talk regularly about the game (and play "standard" occasionally). The new announcement, however, has gotten us excited about LCG and I'm hoping that we can get some more regular LCG tournaments going. Is anyone else in the area interested building some momentum for LCG-style tourneys? Though I personally can't attend GENCON, I would like to be part of the playtesting for GENCON if others plan to go. That way I ca :)

The only catch to my own availability is that I can't travel very far before July. Part 2 of my 2-part wedding (the part in China) comes up in mid to late June and money is tight while saving for that trip. I can get to Glen Burnie tourney at some point in the next 2-3 months (or in DC/northern VA) but not much further. Anyone else interested in a GB or DC/northern VA tourney? If people prefer, we can hold off until the GJ expansion comes out.

I'm glad to see you guys are trying to hold things together. Best wishes!! Also, if you guys are still playing standard, I have a buttload of cards I'd love to sell. I'm in the process of buying a house and I could use money. Anyone interested, e-mail me at [email protected]

Tom, i might know someone looking to buy. I'll talk to him when i see him in a couple of weeks.

Cool, I really want to get rid of the stuff before i move.

Just thought I would check in and see if interest is growing for a tournament at some point this summer. Though things still aren't concrete and I'd hate to jinx this, I think the DC area will have 4-6 players that play somewhat regularly, though there will probably be three of us that are more dedicated than the rest. Most (if not all) of those might be interested in getting a tournament going in VA/DC/Glen Burnie at some point, especially once the Greyjoy expansion is released. Is anyone else interested?

By the way, I think LCG is in full swing down here, so there probably wouldn't be a lot of excitement for a "standard-format" tournament.

Meta Update:

Finite, CaseyVA, myself, and a couple others are beginning to meet more regularly. Our plan is to meet twice a month on Sundays, but the day is flexible (could make it a weekday if people prefer) and at times we meet multiple times a week. I just thought I would let anyone who is interested know so that they can join us.

The game shop we're looking at is Game Parlor in Chantilly. Game Parlor also has a location in Woodbridge that we may alternate with. Alternatively, we may consider somewhere in MD if that's more convenient for people (or meet once a month each in northern VA and souther MD). Let me know if (a) anyone is interested in joining us or being notified of games, and (b) anyone has a location preference.

~Dude, I'll take care of your box before you move... but she probably won't be able to walk straight for a while afterwards.

I just moved to Alexandria and am interested in getting into AGOT. I have the core set and a couple of chapter packs, but haven't played the game a whole lot (I bought it just as law school was ending and I was getting ready to move across the country, so time was kind of crunched). I'd love to get in on some games in the area. My email is [email protected].

Well, Mr. Powell, it so happens that you just moved to what might be the most active meta in the US -- we have a group of 4 regular players (occasionally supplemented by one out-of-towner from TN), three of whom live in Alexandria, and we play about twice every week (varies from 1-3 depending on schedules).

Because the aforementioned out-of-towner will be here this week and stays in Dunn Loring, we're planning on playing Tuesday and Thursday nights this week at a cafeteria on the GWU campus downtown (location is subject to change).

The size of your collection isn't an issue: because our crew is focused on optimizing decks to compete in large tournaments, two of us have a very large combined collection so that, at any given time, we have every competitive play-worthy built in multiples and regularly put together various test decks whenever someone comes up with a new deck concept. Having another regular player will help us test multiplayer decks a lot more easily.

I'll send you an email with all this + my contact info. Looking forward to meeting you,

Erick

*competitive play-worthy decks built

Welcome, Aaron. This is a good meta, and I look forward to seeing you at tourneys and regular game days.

It looks like Finite already built a few decks that you can use. Those will be competitive builds that are also good "starters" if you're looking to play competitively. If your more into thematics, let us know and we can help you build something that is fun and wins frequently (albeit slightly less competitive).

Just in case there might be any DC area lurkers out there: The DC Meta is getting together Sunday for the first time since GenCon. We'll meet around 10:00a either at an apartment complex near Old Town Alexandria, VA, or on the GWU campus right off the GW/Foggy Bottom Metro (obviously TBD). As of right now we have seven people planning to attend. If you're interested, friend and PM me.

Just a quick update...

DC meta has been holding monthly "tournaments." Typical turnout tends to be around 4-6 players (so these are small, casual game sessions without prize support). We're looking to host our regionals, which we expect to have a much larger turnout, on May 29th in Chantilly, VA. More details to come once FFG has approved (hopefully) our application!

Hey y'all. I've been super busy finishing things up north and getting ready to move to B-more. I will not be able to make the regional, not because I haven't played in almost 2 years, but I'll be finishing up my move that weekend. When I get settled and get my cards up to speed, I'll start setting a schedule to head on down. I'll be in touch.

Braz

Braz, good to hear from you and good to see you are getting back into the game. If your home base is in B-more maybe we could start meeting up at Glen Burnie or some store in b-more as thats a lot closer then D.C. I'm sure I gcould get kevin to go and might even be able to convince one or two others as well.

I recently CC'd Chris on an email exchange with a small store in Baltimore: http://cantongames.com/

Sounds like they might be able to accommodate small-sized meet-ups.

Braz, I also told Mike (SonofStarfall) that you were moving to the area. He wondered if it was to the city proper and if you teaching there. I told him to get back in the game with you....also told him to post here.

Washington, DC-area regionals will be on May 29. It will be "joust" (1v1) format. Entry will be $10, which will be used to cover the cost of the substantial prize support provided in FFG's "regionals tourney kit."

More info, including the venue, nearby lodging/food info, etc. can be found here http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=16&efcid=4&efidt=317915.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me or Finite an e-mail (see the link above for contact e-mail addresses).

I'll be in the county, not city proper. I'll be 20 minutes or so from the Canton store and 30 minutes from the Glen Burnie store.

I'm transitioning careers. :)
