Vader seems good if you use him with a bunch of officers

By ParaGoomba Slayer, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I only have a core set and a bunch of scum expansions, so one of the two lists I have put together right now is:

Vader

Regular Royal Guard

Officer x2

Elite Officer x2

Vader is devastating, but with his slow speed and melee limitation and likely only getting one attack per round, you kind of need to get more use out of him than just one shotting a storm trooper every round. The officers can have Vader waste less activations moving, and can allow him to get off more than just his normal attack/brutality.

Royal Guards buff everything, either by their +1 block aura, or by acting as a pool of health for everything else because your opponent has to disable your +1 block aura in order to kill anything else.

Officers roll white dice, and have cower. This means they have a 1 in 3 chance of an X-Men symbol.

I pushed up the hall way that separates the starting areas on the dianoga map and cleaned house with Vader.

Maybe it's not top tier but it's certainly fun and thematic. Are there any better uses for Vader?

*11/36 Very close but not quite (just mentioning since if you actually calculate probabilities to give 1/3 you can get some really bad results in other areas).

Also you know about the nerfs to royal guards and basic officers in skirmish right? The latter is a big problem for this list. If they stun Vader and you don't have a command card to fix it that's a big problem too. Ultimately I think the elite officers are putting too many eggs in the basket of Vader and it's better to just use more efficient units (even with Vader).

Definitely seems fun and I like the idea of being able to constantly move Vader around and attack multiple times per round.

However Vader is still vulnerable to Stun and you're essentially playing a 32 point Vader.

It's generally better to just have him as a power piece and then just have a smattering of guards, troopers and officers.

Is pretty good - but you'd have to proxy another regular RG card maybe.

You can mitigate Stun problems with the new Unshakeable upgrade card that's packed with Bespin.

Sadly, even with that, the RGs and the Officers, Vader is still more of a casual fun piece. Even disregarding the very obvious mission objective problems, this kind of list just doesn't do enough swings per turn to kill stuff fast enough. Most competent opponents with tier 1 competitive lists will beat it without much trouble.

One thing Vader is nice against are Hired Guns, Vader is almost immune to their (parting shot) attacks.

This looks good with Vader, and there's some sweet new force user command cards too.

If you run Vader, this is an auto-include.

Is that meant to be a specific person?

It's Bob from accounting. Susan told him not to run around the office with a lightsaber but he never listens.

Dr. Doom is Darth Doom now ...

Nope, any force user - light or dark side - can use it. Vader only comes with four speed so that's why this card really helps him.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see I just answered a question you didn't actually ask.
