Timing Chart Predator and Juke

By redviperofdorne, in X-Wing Rules Questions

As I look at the timing chart, I see the defender modifies attack dice first and than the attacker. I take this to mean I should wait until the defender modifies my roll before I re-roll with predator to protect that last dice from being juked. Am I correct?

Not quite...

Both Predator and Juke are offensive abilities triggered by the attacker and resolved during the 3(ii) Attacker Modifies Attack Dice step

For instance:

Darth Vader, equipped with Predator, attacks Guri, equipped with Sensor Jammer ( When defending, you may change 1 of the attacker's hit results to a Focus result. The attacker cannot reroll the die with the changed result ).

Darth Vader rolls hit, blank.

Guri (defender) modifies first: Sensor Jammer turns the hit result to a focus result, which cannot be re-rolled (per card text)

Darth Vader can now use Predator to modify (in this case, re-roll) the blank result.

An example with Juke ( When attacking, if you have an evade token, you may change 1 of the defender's Evade results to a Focus result ):

Darth Vader, equipped with Juke and toting an evade token, attacks an enemy ship

Darth Vader rolls hit, hit

Enemy ship has no card equipped to modify attack dice, and so rolls defense dice: evade, focus

Darth Vader, as the attacker, modifies enemy defense dice first: Juke turns the evade result into a focus result.

Enemy ship is now left with focus, focus to modify as it is able.

Hope that helps...

Thanks. I see I've gotten juke and sensor jammer a little mixed up.

Sensor Jammer happens during Defender Modifies Attack Dice which is before Attacker Modifies Attack Dice, so you can spend your focus tokens or use pilot abilities or card abilities to modify that die, but you couldn't reroll it because Sensor Jammer specifically prohibits that.

Predator happens in Attacker Modifies Attack Dice.

Juke, as noted, happens in the defence dice modifications.

The easy way to remember the order is that the person who just rolled dice, always modifies them last.

If the attacker rolls all blanks. That's the rolls a defender with sensor jammer can modify. If the attacker has predator and re-rolls for a hit, the defender can't use sensor jammer on that hit correct?

Correct; if the attacker rolls no [boom] symbols (all eyes, all blanks, all [kaboom]s) on their initial roll, Sensor Jammer does nothing, because its chance to act has already passed.

Thank you.

Correct. The defender already had her chance to modify the attackers dice, once the attacker has modified his dice (including re-rolls), the defenders window has passed.
