180 point side games at UK nationals

By Jondavies72, in Star Wars: Armada

Just looking at what's going on at the UK nationals and it looks like there will be 180 point side games with no missions, just kill kill kill.

This is very cool but I've now got to sort a second list of 180 points, with no real experience of what works at that points level......

Sally and yavaris come to mind or maybe a pair of mc30s ?

Do you have to take a Commander?

I'd do Admonition and Foresight. Games will go fast either way!

I think you have to take a commander....so points are going to be tight!!

Fantasy Flight Games UK National Championship Star Wars: Armada "1st Contact" Side Event

Before you can play in this tournament you will need

  • 1 complete tournament legal 180 point fleet including all miniatures, cards and tokens required.
  • 1 Winner Ticket

The premise of this side event is that two scout groups meet during a routine patrol of the star system. With each fleet not wanting the other to report back to their admiral, all hell breaks loose!

The event will be run in the single elimination format. Each player will pair off against another random player.

The first round of this side event is timed at a maximum of 90 minutes to play. The winners of each heat will then advance to the second round, whilst the losers are eliminated and free to play in further side events.

The final of this single elimination event is played in an untimed game round. The winner of this final will receive the Winner’s Ticket!

Yeah, these side events have me thinking I'll need to bring both Empire and Rebels down, not just my Nationals list. Could be some fun combinations to play with at this level.

Are large ships being allowed in this format? I think in the rules for small format from FFG that were posted a few days ago they weren't but I think that rolling an ISD and a raider in this format would be pretty strong

An ISD I, Raider I and Ozzel is 174 pts!

It actually sounds like a fun little format to play for when you want a quick game, might have to try it out

I think it will make a very fun side game but I'm struggling with what I want to use

Pretty quick games, so should be able to try out loads of different lists if you're struggling to decide!

Since I'm not going to haul loads of expensive models half way across the country (and store them in a tent) I'm going to use a cut down version of whotever my nationals list looks like.

So it's going to be glads or nebs not sure yet.

My issue with this. There are 5 rounds of games to play on the Saturday anyway, starting at 10am and finishing at midnight. Who is playing the side games?

Should get some in on Friday and again on Sunday.

Ah Friday players.

Obviously I will be too busy on Sunday playing the final, and I wouldnt be surprised if the 180pt final was also early Sunday morning.

Guess it depends when they need cleared out the hall, but I'm hoping for the side events to continue all day Sunday. Won't make it down the Friday and Saturday's spoken for. And, as you say, Sunday morning I should be busy too!
