Not sure what you mean here. No, a gate only opens when it is written on the bottom leftmost part of the Mythos card, OR when an Encounter tells you so.

Monsters can appear with Mythos texts, gates opening with Mythos normal gate indication, monsters surges, encounter cards, ancien ones texts, kingsports rifts....

The majority of the Mythos cards show a gate location in the bottom left. If that location does not currently have an open gate and is not sealed by an elder sign, then a gate will open there and one monster comes out with it. There may be encounter cards that also open gates, but I haven't read through them all. Note that gate burst cards (Mythos cards with a red name panel) will break elder signs and put a gate there regardless. Those were introduced in Dunwich.

You've got it right for monsters as far as I can tell. In my experience there shouldn't be any shortages of them with those conditions =P

ok i will be more clearly as possible..... when you are on the mythos phase, the mythos card had a location in the lower left part of the card and my question is, do you always open a new gate on that location? or the card should say " a gate has been opened or appeared" ?

I will give you an example to make it easier
example :
Im on my mythos phase of the game and i draw "Strangr Power Flux Plagues City!" -Headline-
and the card show on the lower left part the location of "Independence Square" And the card says " all investigators in other world areas may immediately return to arkham..... Clue Appears at " the unnamable"

Am i going to open a new gate at "Independence Square" or not?

Maybe. demonio.gif

Generally the answer is YES. There are two reasons why you wouldn't. If there is already an open gate there, you won't open a new one, you will have a monster surge.

If there is a seal on the location, you will not open a gate there because the seal blocks the new gate. If you have some of the expansions, the gate symbol may be in red. That means a gate burst, which blows the seal away and puts a new gate on the location, but does not add a doom token. Based on some of your posts, I don't think you have any expansions yet, so this probably won't apply to you.

OMG that was the answer i was trying to get thank you so much D: one last thing .. how many common weapons ,unique items or spells can an investigator have? or i can have all the items i want? but well i cant use em all cuz the hand icons ... so is there a maximun capacity of items or spell a player should have?

Yes, under normal circumstances your investigator may carry as many cards (items, allies, skills, you name it) as you can get (although you can't have more than one each of certain special cards (bank loan, retainer, etc).

Also remember, for counting purposes (when your investigator is knocked unconscious, for example), spells count as items.

These forums are awesome, I've found.

All the Mythos cards in the base game are made from the same mold. Each has a gate location, so a gate will attempt to open every turn. Some expansion Mythos cards have other effects occur instead or in addition to a gate opening.

Always do the mythos card in this order:

  1. Open gate and spawn monster (if there is already an open gate there, there is a monster surge. If there is a seal there, nothing happens). If a new gate opens, put a doom token on the AO's track before placing the gate on the board.
  2. Place the clue token. (If there is an open gate at the location, no clue is placed. If there is an investigator at the location, s/he may choose to take the clue immediately.
  3. Move monsters. Therefore, monsters who emerged from brand-new gates might move.
  4. Apply mythos text. Monsters placed by this text will not move. If the card is an environment, after applying its text, discard the current environment card and replace it with this one. If it's a rumor and there's already one in play, ignore this text and discard the card (but you still have to do steps 1 to 3). If it's a weather card and Ithaqua is the AO, ignore this text an discard the card (but you still have to do steps 1 to 3).

thx these really help D: it should be added to the rules D:
