What excites you about wave 9?

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

Give it to me now. In fact, give me at least three.

It's got off-roadin', muddin' solar panels! All it needs now is a Warn winch and some lights and it can go anywhere. "Tie/sf ignores all asteroids and debris fields"

Are the Heroes of the Resistance technically Wave 9? Anyhow, that's the expansion pack I'm most looking forward to right now.

Repaint shadow caster into cooler model. A Firefly Reaver looking scum ship black with blood and gore on it.

With the ARC - 170

- release of a prequel ship

- the release of Shara Bey (Poe Dameron's mother)

to most this wouldn't be a big deal but in the grand scheme including her allows the continumum in both this game and the SW galaxy to grow.

- Vectored Thrusters (upgrade) hopefully ushering the return of the x-wing to the game board in droves at least at a store/regional level

with the SF/TIE

- the ability to fire from two arcs

- Quickdraw/Backdraft excited to see how these two PS translate; Backdraft seems to be more of a jouster while Quickdraw a pilot best used in the open with the dual firing arc.

Frankly, there new and shiny of course I'm excited

I was wondering the same thing because that is also what I'm most excited for (new pilot cards) the upgrade cards of Finn, and Rey; the Black One...

I'm excited to see what the new Scum crew are going to be in the Shadowcaster pack. IG-88 we can probably guess, but it may have some extra text we don't know about. It'll throw the Aggressor into all sorts of new list types, and that encourages diversity. Aggressors now won't only see play either with another Aggressor or in Epic play. Seeing ships with new pairings always excites me.

The Latts Razzi crew upgrade *looks* like you can remove an enemy ship's stress token for some benefit. I have no idea what that could be, and that is a HUGE risk/reward debate. That could shake up the PTL environment something fierce. Do I sacrifice my opponent's predictability for whatever this benefit is? I can't even imagine what the benefit to that is, but I'm excited to find out.

The idea of dropping a new obstacle onto the battlefield could change things up drastically. Bombs/mines go away after they detonate, but having a 7th obstacle? Depending on how that's played, it could really change up your games and throw your opponent through a loop.

The mobile firing arc could be an interesting new twist on the turret concept. I'm interested in seeing how it'll play out. It's different, that's for sure. Again, new twists on old ideas always excite me.

Scum gets another dodgy ace. We'll see how dodgy it actually is, but it's exciting for Scum to finally get a dodgy jouster, and finally a true interceptor-type.

ARC shows precedence for prequel ships, which means N1 maybe? Also, that and TIE/sf = small-base rear firing arc. Both of which have neat secondary benefits.

And finally.... Tail Gunner. Scum Kath has found her soulmate.

Interested to see the latts crew, also with the fang I may have a decent small ship that I can use with latts pilot, as at the moment there is not a small ship that is cheap enough, can kick out enough firepower and survive to make use of her ability

The shadow caster seems cool but the mobile arc seems to lose action economy at the moment which could mean it gets left in the box, which is a shame as I like the look of the ship itself

alternatively, plan ahead (a world changing requirement over your standard, PWT, I know, but that's why they're a lot cheaper)

there's also no word no whether or not you can only fire from your mobile arc or if both mobile and primary arcs can be fired from

all we know is how they interact with Sabine and Ketsu's ability and that they're rotated via PTL-able action (i.e, an action on the action bar), also that the Lancer has a crew slot for dengar/K4

so with PTL (and the green 3 bank on the dial ) you can flip the mobile arc, focus and dengar/K4 for full mods. If you plan ahead like a good player, you got full mods AND an evade

swx56_layout.png

or play Sabine and swap out PTL for a double dose o stims and enjoy getting action economied out the bunghole for two rounds

Sabine's a 42 pointer with double stims and 3 point crew (45 with title), which is expensive but she is tanky for two rounds

No "gotta haves" in this wave. However, I must have a TIE SF or two because, well it's a TIE variant. The ARC maybe, because it's cannon and a cool ship (although it should be a clone ship and therefore give the Imps their first astromech assisted ship, but FFG went soft). The other two, I'm not sold on day one; we'll see.

eh...the ARC for imperial argument makes no sense to me

until some lore buff proves me wrong, I don't think there's a ship in the Imperial X-wing miniatures roster that's older than the Tie Fighter (Firespray-31 notwithstanding; no idea about Lambda or VT-49) mostly because every small base ship is a TIE

the ARC-170 we're getting is not a prequel ship . It's a ship from the prequels . Yes, there is a difference

the refurbished tech (ie Alliance Overhaul ) AND the pilots are both from Star War's Galactic Civil War era. This is the ARC-170 as it would have been around the time of the Original Trilogy

ie, we were never going to get clones flying these guys (unless they were survivors ala REBELs, and those guys aren't too fond of the empire) and the empire of the OT (and the First Order beyond) would turn their noses up at these obsolete clunkers

Rebels, though, are still scavenging Ys and Z-95s and such and they're more than happy with whatever help they can get

Its cannon that the Empire used V-wings, they have astromechs but are ugly as sin and should be ignored ;) .

I can't really say I'm excited for any of it. I will probably just get an Arc-170 and a couple fang fighters, but I'm not in a rush.

I mean, I only bought a few things from wave 7 and 8, so Wave 9 just seems like even more stuff I won't use.

The in cannon book tarkin showed the empire using the arc five years after the end of the clone wars.

Shopping list will be 1 x SF, 2 x ARC, 3 x Fang & a Shadowcaster (plus a few older ships to round out the collection)...

... however it's the ARC that I like most from the wave - even though I'm not keen on the excessive wingspan on a small-base ship, exaggerated by those massive cannons (I'm looking forward to re-pos'ing the guns and trimming the wings down - hopefully not wrecking the look in the process).

EDIT:Doh! I need to stop posting today. Totally missed the word "Imperial".

Although i'm mostly an Imp player, I'm excited for the scum stuff.,

Truthfully I'll be getting 2 of everything 'cause i share with my brother.

We did a mini Coruscant Invitational on the weekend and I flew Deathrain alongside some TIE/FOs; which I'd not actually flow before; despite owning three of them (2 Core and 1 expansion). Really enjoyed the way they played.

I was always excited for the ARC-170, but now Im also looking forward to the TIE/SF and flying that.

For me it's 3 things in this order:

1) Having the ARC-170 be the first prequel ship in the game. For awhile I thought they would never cave so this was one of my happiest moments in the game.

2) Having the first all canon wave since wave 2. Kind of crazy to think that, but it's nice to have a wave that doesn't include obscure and/or ugly (IMO) EU ships in it from the old canon.

3) The fact that it's mainly a jousting wave as opposed to more super turrets or crazy arc dodging aces.

still don't get how two aux arcs and a completely new mobile arc are a "jousting wave" or "Back to basics"

as said earlier, even the jouster has t-rolls!

if it's about getting back to "arcs", that was last Wave's motif :P

not that I mind, because it's a good **** motif we should never ever stray from

Tilt your head and the shadowcaster is shaped like a pancake with breakfast sausages for engines

The physical resemblance is uncanny

;) Actually it looks more like a Romulan Bird of Prey.

 Come to think about it the Kihraxz Starfighter looks like a Klingon Bird of Prey.

No "gotta haves" in this wave.

2 Shadow caster, 3 ARC, 4 SF Tie and 4 fangs are going to be my order.

One of each as always.

I don't really understand the mentality of not being excited for or disappointed by stuff in the new waves. Sure, it may not be exactly what you personally want, but it's still new content for the game we love. Awesome new models , interesting new pilot abilities, new upgrades. If nothing else, we will see an inevitable shift in the meta and what the 'popular' lists are, as that happens with every new wave almost without fail.

Who cares if you'd rather have seen the Gunboat, or the TIE/SF dial isn't what you expected, or if a particular astromech upgrade isn't quite as good as you hoped it would be? These are all minor complaints, and pale to insignificance next to the fact that we are getting more goodies that will increase the diversity of this wonderful game.

In my case, it's that I am finding it hard to find the parts that I have bolded in your text.

Other than the ARC-170 model, that is quite cool looking, the other 3 models aren't exactly of my taste:

- The two scum ships... I will not say that "they don't feel Star Wars" because that is the single most overused sentence in these forums. They just don't seem to match the rest of the models in the game. They come from Rebels, a series that tries to follow a streamlined aesthetics that try to be like McQuarrie's concept art. That is fine, except for the fact that the rest of the models in this game don't follow that style. Look at the Millenium Falcon. It is full of little details and grebbles. Then look at the Shadowcaster. It looks like a toy.

- The TIE/sf does totally look like a TIE/fo. It's not new, not a daring design, has absolutely no "Wow factor". It's not FFG's fault here. Just the general direction chosen by the new powers that be behind Star Wars. Also, most TIE lovers have expressed their disappointment with what seems to be more an X-Wing than a TIE fighter, in game terms.

- And even when I like the model of the ARC-170, it doesn't bring anything radical to the table. The K-Wing brought SLAM and cool new bombs, torpedoes and turrets. The Ghost and Phantom brought the cool docking mechanic, and endless new crew options and pilots. The ARC-170 brings... auxiliary arc. Something introduced during Wave 2.

The Fangs might be from Rebels, but their Design is typical Mandalorien and comes from the Clone Wars. They are certainly not ships from the corillia sector nor are they kuat or incom designs, but they have some predecessors in the canon.

Personally I am less excited by Wave 9 than Wave 8. I don't play Scum so the Fang and Shadowcaster don't interest me much (thank goodness the Fang doesn't include any "must have" cards for other factions).

The ARC-170 looks nice and I will pick one up but it is competing with the Y-wing and B-wing for a slot in the "slow and heavy sloggers" category. The Tie/SF seems to have been hit with the "M'eh" bat.

Heroes of the Resistance looks fun but doesn't actually have any new ships and looks to be quite far away. So overall, Wave 9 hasn't really raised my interest.
