What excites you about wave 9?

By Chief Hugh, in X-Wing

It's one wave closer to the Gunboat!

But the strike fighters look interesting for my Scum, even if I am underwhelmed by the /SF.

Collision Detector Phantoms.

Though I'm not sure if want to actually give up Gunner & FCS. It's just such a heavy combo and it frees up your actions so nicely. I feel like that is just a must have combo for a Phantom... But the idea of decloaking over ships and obstacles is mighty appealing. If only there were a way to keep the hitting power and the action economy. Oh, right... Gunner!

Collision Detector Question: (sorry if this has been asked in another thread)

So you barrel roll/decloack such that your base lands on an asteroid: Do you roll for damage? Or is this only when performing a manouver? Similarly for debris do you get a stress token at this point? (I know you do not need to roll here as crits are ignored).

New ships is always exciting, as for which one is the most anticipated and if it is worth the hype is a complicated question. Well her is the simple rundown.

  • Prequel ships are here essentailly bringing all of the ships from all the Star Wars movie into the game. Say what you want about George Lucas, even with Jar Jar Binks crew upgrade this will NOT be podracing .
  • Scum and Villainy finally get an interceptor type ship although the point cost might seem more on par with a superiority fighter like a TIE-Advanced or X-wing instead while still having the frailness of an A-wing or TIE Interceptor.
  • The 1 st Order now gets as many ships as the Resistance does although still lacking a large ship (The shuttle and landers in the opening scene is a good place to start). Also it has shooting mechanics that many Lambda Shuttle players wish was in place for their favorite ship.
  • Speaking about mechanics that many players wish were added in the start and not after the game has been developed into 10 waves and over 30 ships. The mobile firing arc which gives a large ship the true ponderous feeling rather than just a flying pancake of death. This is probably the largest mechanical change for this release. Still the question how will these new firing arc rules hold up in the current arc-dodger meta. My guess is that only on higher pilot skill ships so like the Phantom expect a lot of VI usage.

Sweet fanny Adams.

Fenn Rau all over. He's gonna be amazing. Quickdraw is gonna be a lot of fun but I'm not convinced of her competitiveness.

Also, the potentially interesting challenge of trying to make a Fang so that the wings are spinny like in the show.

Nothing in the ARC interests me enough to buy one though :(

The ARC-170, because it's a debut of a prequel ship.

And the Lancer, because I think it looks pretty good. And a new faction for Sabine Wren.

I'm hoping that the Shadowcaster with its Tractor Beam shenanigans and Quickdraw will end Palp Aces.

I'm not very optimistic.

Oh, and Scum is getting their stupid PS 9 boostwing because every faction has to have every archetype and we need to cater to skill-less Palp Aces players that can't predict maneuvers.

Scum doesn't have Palpatine.

.

Eh that's because your hope is in the wrong place

See, shadowcaster still has to HIT the target. What you want is Ketsu who does not (and who works even if she blocks the target)

Also combination debris fields (no action!) and feedback

Sabine if you decide to hate crackswarm

QuickDraw probably works with or without preactivation shots. If they have initiative, they're not arcdodging you so easily

Not a great deal, to be honest.

From a gameplay point of view, the TIE/sf will be interesting to play against, but aesthetically speaking it's just another identikit cut and paste TIE. The Shadow Caster doesn't appeal at all, the Fang Fighter is interesting but offers almost zero upgrade utility with just two upgrade cards in the expansion, one of which is a title for the ship itself.

The ARC-170 is the only ship I'm likely to purchase, and then only one of them, more for Vector Thrusters and Tail Gunner than to fly the ship itself.

Pretty excited about the Shadowcaster, because I always love getting a new large base for Scum, and the tractor beam shenanigans look like huge fun.

Also hyped about the Fang. All I want to fly these days is Dengar, but he gets expensive and I'm terrible with 2 ship lists. I need something awesome that I can fit 2 of next to him.

I'm also really surprised the lack of breakfast hype

The Lancer us THE most pancake pancake in the game; I'm honestly surprised it didn't come with IHOP or Denny's product placement

Sure those are to pancakes what rat poison is to seasoning, but it's Scum we're talking about

I'm excited for the Assault Gun....oh wait, wrong thread.

Actually, I'm excited for the ARC-170. I wasn't real fond of it in the movies, but I flew it in SWG with a crew and it was a blast. So, call it nostalgia!

I have NO idea what you just said, fickle.

Honestly? Nothing.

I only care about TIEs. But I don't REALLY care about First Order TIEs. I'm still gonna buy 2 SFs, but there isn't even anything in that pack really that I'd use outside of FO TIEs.

At least it'll finally give me enough Tech upgrades for all my FO ships. I can put the 4 Collision Detectors on my TIE/fos, then put the two Comm Relays from my /FOs onto the /SFs.

Did we mix em up or are we trolling the opponent with illegal and useless upgrades, respectively :P ?

Absolutely nothing. I already regret spending money on my FOs.

Before the previews, what excited me most was the new R3 droid that somehow gave an evade token, and the first Action based torpedoes.

Then came the previews and burst that bubble.

Now, what excites me most of this wave is that we have got the TIE/sf out of the way, at last. A boring looking TIE Fighter, that is almost indistinguishable from the TIE/fo, that is a pallete swap of the 40 years old TIE Fighter.

I really, really, really hope FFG doesn't come with another unnecessary pack called "Villians of the First Order" with yet another TIE/fo or /sf. Geez, I am sick of The Force Awakens ships.

As a die hard Imperial, everything but the TIE/sf. All of the other ships look great so far, but the new TIE Fighter doesn't fly like a TIE Fighter, and that really rubs me the wrong way, perhaps even irrationally so. If FFG wanted to give us an Imperial X-Wing, perhaps a Gunboat would have been a good chassis...

I honestly would have taken the V-Wing or Eta interceptor Imperial variants over it. My justification is to just consider the FO as a separate entity from the Empire, like Krennel's hardliners or Zsinj's Raptors.

All of it.

I've only flown the SF once, but they managed to mangle a Mynock special flown by someone that's used to them. Seeing as I'm nothing special, I'd say that's gonna affect the meta a bit. I still lost, but very narrowly, way closer than it should have been.

The ARC-170 is another one of those "Aggressors should have been medium, not large" ship for me though. Or half point all the ships, or something.

I'd say it's more like a Frisbee propelled by lightsabers.

I thought of something!

if im not buying wave 9 i can finally buy halo fleet game.
