Conflict Article

Black Squadron is a 9 point sacrificial shield for your important aces that you don't want shredded immediately.

Almost every single Ace but Vader, plus vanilla ties and interceptors, benefits from it. Mithel, Fel, Howlrunner, Dengar, Rhymer, plus whomever else comes in this box. Maybe it's effectiveness will be increased by another Imperial "Bubble" squadron (a la Rhymer, Dengar, or Jan)

It might even absorb two rounds of shooting. More even with a jamming field!

Did I mention that it's only one point more than a standard TIE Fighter? With counter?

Though, my one gripe is that I wish the non-ace unique squadrons came with one defense token. More often than not it would be nullified by an errant accuracy in dogfights, but I think one would be appropes to represent the survivability of unique squadrons over vanilla ones, but still less than ace-led squadrons representing elite fighter groups.

Being able to protect your Rhymer ball with 3 black squadrons instead of 2 TIE advanced for only 1 more point....yes please!!!

Black Squadron is unique, isn't it? I think that means you can only have one.

Don't all unique squads have defense tokens? I don't see any on this one...

It's not a lack of tokens that make it unique, its the dot in the title. Can only have one.

Though, that doesn't diminish its effectiveness. Seems like it actually would pair pretty well with Vader. Theme, ya'know.

Aaaahhhh...I did not notice that!

Jamming Field.

Jamming field!

Looks like fun.... That will shut down imperial front arcs for at least a turn, maybe even 2.

There had better be new and cool ships too because I'm actually sick of fighters in Armada.

Nope

Now my Rieekan list can field an entire legion of unique fighters!

Muahahahahaaha!

There are 4 SKU's missing (SWM20-24) between the flotillas & the campaign set. Wave 3 & 4 switched the SKU order, so it doesn't necessarily mean that we'll have 4 other items ready for Q4 release. Still, I wouldn't be totally surprised if we see something else in Q4, maybe with a Rogue One tie-in. Or the SKU's could be in early design for release next year.

Nice catch!

I like the non character unique squadrons. They should be a cool way to add some flavour to your squadron force without having such a big investmet. Ciena is also great, I think I like her more than sontir.

Now all FFG needs to do is release 7 more campaigns and add rogue squadron 2 through 8 and black squadron 2 through 8 to the box... I'm certain someone will buy all 240 of 'em just for those :P!

Reddit user /u/mewalser has found what appears to be an image of a blurry Arquitens cruiser on the cover art.

Oh shiz its on now

I think we would see more rebels content before rogue one.

There is four missing SKUs again, after all :D

What a disappointment.

Well, I guess that's your prerogative to be so.... But I think you're in the very vast minority on that fact, given the overall levels of excitement.

So sure, paint me the minority because I already own x wing and expected ship upgrades in my capital ship game.

Fighters in this game are broken on a fundamental level, and considering this is supposed to be the game about capital ships and not squadrons there should have been titles and ship classes to expand the selling point of the game.

I feel your mistake is assuming that Armada is a capital ship game. When, it is not.

It is a Fleet game, as evidenced by the very wording on the box. And a Fleet game assumes all aspects of the fleet, including its squadron support.

....

I mean, if you wanted a game to just push 3-4 figures/ships around at a time, as you said... You Already Have X-Wing.

Fleet=ships.

Look at the box if you don't believe me, they didn't show off squadrons they showed pff three painted capital ships.

There are plenty of naval warfare miniature games you can play that are about ships blasting away at one another and maneuvering.

Fighters (or speeders, admittedly) and the aces that fly them are an integral part of every single one of the classic Star Wars movies.

If you're just looking for merely ship combat, you came to the wrong universe my friend!

My primary concern is that Armada squadron mechanics are slow and face no significant threat from ships bristling with point defense weapons.

Not to be a semanticsasaurus, but isn't it 5 missing skus? 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24.

Could be, i was relaying information and havn't verified it myself yet.

My Box Shows Capital Ships, Cards and Fighter Squadrons.

I'm noticing that on the product page it's listing 'Campaign Expansions'

Which means that this may just be the first in a series.
