Paper campaign tracker

By FrogTrigger, in Imperial Assault Campaign

I know most people on here use the Android app to keep track of their campaigns, and there are a lot of great digital formats out there as well.. but as far as paper copies go, which one do you use? Looking for something that has all the items, class cards etc..

I had found a good one over at BGG but it seems to be core box only, need something that includes the expansions.

Something on paper would be difficult to keep up with all the expansions and still be able to lay it out efficiently... I've seen some of the campaign trackers folk designed for the initial sets and it was already too complicated with too much trying to fit on a single page. My suggestion would be to rather keep it freeform, use the log that comes with the game, and a second sheet to jot down selected Agenda sets and side missions. The app is pretty amazing for being an up to date database of all the expansion content, without showing it as clutter...

Blank A4 or letter, depending on where you live. It's the most flexible and adaptive medium.

Team Covenant had one back in the day.

Everyone could just take a pic of what cards they have.

We do that when we run out of time on maps, take pictures of everything so we know how to set it up again. Of course it's risky, cause you give the imperial player too much time to consider their next move...

I use zip lock baggies to separate the stuff for each player and then use the tracker in teh rule book to track the actual campaign.

Ya right now we are running the pictures/ziploc system.. just figured there might be a better way that wasn't digital. I guess since we play at the same place every time keeping a digital log on a desktop wouldn't be a problem, will have to go that route. The android app is the best digital source?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I use ziplocks to store all my FFG stuff, (so, along with stock in FFG I have asked for stock in a Glad), Then, I sharpie the bags and have a sheet of paper as to what is in each baggie. Makes storage easier as well. For IA, I have them specific baggies for stuff that has been used, stuff that is NOT in use for this campaign at all and stuff that MAY come into play for this campaign

I'm running three parallel campaigns (2 where I'm the Imperial - Base Campaign and Hoth, and the third is the base campaign where I'm a Rebel) with different groups of friends - so baggies aren't an option. The app and taking pictures has worked beautifully till now.

I could see it not working in your case. My group only runs one campaign at a time, so, it works well for me.

Personally, I'm not playing enough Imperial Assault! Hehe. I try to ensure I play at least one game a month - problem with my various groups of friends is time availability. I've got plenty of time - but tomorrow we're continuing Hoth that we haven't played since January, because of the one guy was always busy. One of the other games has been two months now because of other factors getting in the way. I've been part of about 6 campaigns in total now with different folk, so at least there's always something...

I am envious. Me and my group only get together, at most, once a month. And I only play IA with that group. I hate shift work some times

I never thought I would be interested in Play By Forum. Imperial Assault changed that. Now I get to play the campaign plenty, and I don't need to harass my group, which is not as much in love with the game.

The Imperial Assault Vassal module handles all the bookkeeping for me for the concurrent campaigns.

I should consider giving that a try... I always have all the expansions. I suppose downside might be the time waiting between moves? How long does a mission take in play by forum?

The time it takes to play a PBF depends on the mission and the players and how much they want to strategize. The last full core campaign of mine took 7.5 months (11 missions), the extended Twin Shadows (7 missions) took a week short of half a year. So, around 3 weeks per mission including upgrade stages and shopping when played with active users.

I have not played real-time in Vassal, but there have been people doing that too. Maybe someday when the campaign module still matures a bit.

The status of the Imperial Assault PBF's can be seen from the Wiki: https://boardgamegeek.com/wiki/page/SWIA_PBF

(Mine are 7, 10, 24, 32, 33.)

The missions are played in quite a bit more strategic way in PBF than when played face-to-face, so it is a different experience, but quite as intense, and I like it.
