This year has been both joyful and odd for the armada fan. Two waves have been announced and slated for release for Q3 along with X-Wing product. Now a campaign box dances at the edge of the community’s vision with no official announcement.
The crunch of Q3 product, slow deployment of wave 3&4, and the secretive campaign box exist as being part of this year’s September market blitz. The stealth nature of the Corelian Conflict box is reminding me of a previous year release FFG suddenly dropped on us. This would be the second X-Wing starter set. Reasons it remained hushed were it contained TFA content and was part of the September product blitz. Disney intends to pump out a Star Wars movie every year if possible. This leads to flooding the market with product the same way before each movie release.
There are odd aspects this time around. FFG has been able to announce and preview the majority of products which could be pulled into this blitz. We know more about Coreilian Conflict then we did about 2nd X-wing starter same time last year. FFG may have discussed or found more breathing room with Disney in which to get product PR.
What does this mean for Armada and X-wing players? Most likely, for any future release planning to come out a quarter before a movie Disney will stall to the designated product blitz month.
