TIE Nicknames

By JJ48, in X-Wing Off-Topic

In the X-Wing novel series, it's common for the Rebel (and later, New Republic) pilots to refer to various TIEs with nicknames. I'm curious if anyone has any ideas for nicknames for the other variants in the game. The ones I remember from the novels are:

TIE Fighter - Eyeball

TIE Interceptor - Squint

TIE Bomber - Dupe

TIE Defender - Trip

(There may also have been one for TIE Advanced, but if so, I've forgotten it.)

So what we have left (along with my own thoughts on names for some of them) are:

TIE Advanced - Evil Eye Bright (do they turn around?)

TIE Adv. Prototype - Evil Eye Lite Lite Brite

TIE/fo Fighter - Eyeball (If they're still calling the T-70's X-Wings, this name can stay, too)

TIE/sf Fighter - Black Eye

TIE Phantom - Blink

TIE Punisher - Quint

"Brights" was the usual term.

Thanks! I knew there was one! So that means the prototype could be "Lite Brite"! XD

Wow. Well thought out. As a dedicated imp player and fan of the EU, I second these names.

If I were to create one for the TIE/sf, I'd call it a "scar" because the red stripe looks like a scar across the eye.

I'd personally call any straight out of the academy pilots "blaster fodder."

*laughs maniacally*

But anyway, great names. Got any ideas for Imp slang for Rebel ships. I know Headhunters got called "Skulls," but I'm not sure if that's new canon or not.

Scar And FOFF.

Phantom should be Spook.

Punisher, I've always used "eggbox" (carton is too many syllables).

For Rebel' ships it's just the letter.

A's, B's, X's etc.

Probably not yet.

In the Legends novel I, Jedi, Corran refers to a bunch of Rebel ships by nickname, but he's with pirates not Imperials at the time. I think it was "bones" (shortening of "wishbones" for Y-wings, "slims" for A-wings, and "pointers" for X-wings - can't recall if B-wings were included.

EDIT: It was "crosses" for B-wings, and "wishbones" for Y-wings:

"Shock the wishbones, stay clear of the pointers, leave the slims and crosses alone. Call for help and we'll get through this."

Thanks for finding that! Now we just need nicknames for the other Rebel craft.

For the K-Wing, I propose "hideous monstrosity".

"Lead, looks like we've got some pointers protecting wishbones, and some slims herding those hideous monstrosities."

Punisher, I've always used "eggbox" (carton is too many syllables).

FWIW, "carton" and "eggbox" have the same number of syllables, each just one fewer than "Punisher," soooo...

Yes but "Egg Carton" has three "Eggbox" has two.

Here's the list of general slang . if you go to the Legends tab and CTRL+F "Rebel" a lot of the rebel pilot ones will be easier to find.

Can we at least agree on "Spook" For TIE Phantom?

I second Spook for the Phantom.

For the Punisher i wouldn't do Quint, since in combat you might not be able to differentiate someone shouting Quint or Squint.

So Punisher...

Bundle

Castle

Fort

Super-Dupe :P

Pun

Idk that's a tough one.

Eggbox (Egg Carton being too long) Why? Because it resembles an egg carton with wing panels. Additionally egg is often slang for bomb...

Yeah, I realized after posting that "Quint" sort of defeats the entire purpose of quick, easily identifiable nicknames. I like "Fort", though. It describes a heavy, well-armed craft pretty well, and also is somewhat of a throwback to the nicknames of the B-17 and the B-29.

Spook as in Ghost, or phantom.

Also Nickname for covert ops personnel. Nothing more covert than a cloaky ship that can carry operatives.
