Pathfinder and Hermit without animal companion

By JinFaram, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Do you guys think these two specializations are worth it if the player doesn't have a long term animal companion?

Yeah, sure. Pathfinder still offers Quick Movement, which can allow a character to perform a third maneuver in a turn, and Hermit has things like One with Nature, Survival of the Fittest, and Shroud, not to mention 2 ranks of Force Rating.

It's a bit annoying that a Hermit has to get at least 1 20xp talent relating to Bonded animal to get to the bottom row of the tree, but honestly it's their shtick so I can't blame the developers.

Other than that I totally agree with Blackbird888, they have a lot to offer the Survivalist, and plenty for everyone else, Pathfinder in particular with Quick Movement.

You just don't see many Jedi with animal companions but I think some would be Seekers. I think Qui-Gon and maybe even Yoda could be thought of as Seekers mixed with other specializations.

Hey, for all we know the snake Luke shoos away from the soup bowl in ESB could have been Yoda's animal companion. Or maybe the big thing that ate R2; the little green guy sure had a high enough Force rating for a Sil 3 companion. :P

On a related note: Why would someone with Pathfinder and/or Hermit NOT want an animal companion? I mean, it's not like they have to be an integral part of the gameplay. You can leave them snoozing at your ship if you're not really interested in bringing them along, but they do have some very nifty uses.

Can also fluff it as not actually being an animal - when he attacks the bad guy, perhaps you found a convenient holozine rack and clobbered the guy with it via the Force. Mechanically you have the 'companion' but if he doesn't want the little thing running around him, there's alternate ways to deal with it.
