Dengaroo has been discussed to bits on several podcasts and blogs recently, and it got me thinking. The squad's raw firepower isn't actually that high (3 dice and 2 dice). It's heavy-weight punch comes from the fact that it always force re-rolls on defense and that you can't shoot Dengar in the front without giving him another attack. He's heavily teched against ships that rely on green dice for defense who have more predictable arcs that he can exploit. Who has lots of hit points, lots of static defense, and doesn't care about arcs? Dengar's old nemesis, Fat Han!
Let's look a standard offense/defense profiles: Dengar generates 3 hits most of the time, but can't really get beyond that except at Range 1. On defense, Han generates an evade with an action due to the MF title, he also gets an extra defense with 3P0, that handily is assessed before dice modification, so Zuckuss crew can't take him away. That's 2 damage that Han stops, out of a max of 3 that Dengar can put out. If you go full defensive Han, with R2 crew, Dengar just doesn't get to damage Han at a certain point. If you go more offensive with Han, taking Gunner or something, you'll still have quite a lot of time to burn before Han is toast. Dengar's infinite token stack and 2AGI + Lone Wolf, however, mean Han isn't going to take him down anytime soon either. However...
Fat Han is in a great positon to hunt down Guri: He's a turret, he's fast, he's high PS, and she's got lousy defense if she's empowering Dengar. She can lend her modest firepower to Dengar's cause and quicken Han's demise, or she can go for a block to deny Han shots and an Evade token, but generally Han will be in a pretty good position against her.
So, depending on build, Han's got some points for some friends. What's best? I don't know. Something to help with aces is always useful. Something that will support his cause against Dengaroo is nice, or swarms, Uboats, etc. Is there an optimal wingman for each of these situations?
An offensive Fat Han with the following...
Han Solo 46
3P0 3
Gunner 5
Engine Upgrade 4
MF Title 1
Predator 3
Weighs in at 62 points.
You could do something like:
Tala, Homing Missile, Guidance Chips = 18
Tala, Homing Missile, Guidance Chips = 18
36 points
This would give you a major punch against U-boats to avoid falling too far behind in the damage race, it would also help take Palpatine off the board quickly or harass aces going after Han.
You could also do the old StressWes to get extra punch against aces:
Wes Janson 29
VI 1
R3A2 2
Integrated Astromech 0
32 points
He's also a solid addition against U-boats and Dengaroo and anyone, really, and you get a few more points to play with.
Come on, it's Star Wars, the Millenium Falcon and Han Solo should be seen on tables, at least a little bit.
