Was curious what other think. Thought it would be cool for the fighter aspect of it as you could designate squads by color or fleets. What's everyone else think?
Will we see colored bases for armada?
No, because the ones in Armada actually fit :3

Why not! Just get out your paint brush
Spray Can mate or Air Brush: Paint Brush is so 1970's.
Once again, getting them coloured, but remaining
translucent
is not easy... its possible, but its not as easy...
Straight up solid colour, simple. Rattlecan. Done.
But keeping it translucent and being hardwearing? Not as simple...
How would FFG sell them? As a one off pack that has 1 Large, 2 Mediums, 4 smalls or something? Or multiple SKUs with just packs of large, medium and small...
Even then, how do they package Uprights? How many Fins? How many Stalks? How many Funky Bent Fins to accomodate Assault Frigates?
Shield Dials would have to not be included. Including shield dials starts to play into the custom ship department so that won't happen. They'll be replacements...
Honestly... Unlike X-Wing, which is far more universal in their plugs... I doubt we will see coloured ones anytime soon, because there's just
too many variables
to account for.;
If they put our one extra stand product, I hope to see squadron stands. I know FFG will replace broken stuff, but it would be really nice to have stands on hand when the key wears down and the base keeps falling off.
Although I have to admit I haven't had problems with my ship bases yet.
Varnish mixed with some ink or small amount of paint can provide translucency. Though that will put an end to my previous smart-ass comment as you will have to provide a brush.
Another thought is to paint the base but leave the risers, stands and stalks.

I have that one happening on a few bases, but I can sacrifice an X-Wing or TIE Fighter base to the base gods and get my Y-Wing back up and working.

Yeah, definitely need the Ink bases, rather than Acrylics... I've experiemnte din the past with Ink Dips and those could work as well... But, its messy and its annoying
Looks OK.
Actually I rather like that effect. I keep almost giving into the pressure to matte black my stands, but like the translucent look a lot (IMO black is preferably on a mat but looks a little off when playing on a table or something of the sort). Thanks for posting the experiment results!
Thanks.
I learned that you need to spray varnish the red, and that it will be a bit sticky to touch until that dries. I also dropped it when I hit it with the varnish and the alcohol based pen and the varnish from the can reacted, so I ended up with red paint on the floor.
As such paint the inside of the bases and then varnish to fix it.
i bought a sharpie 8-pack so I could get the right blue and red. I just sharpied up the bases and now have an eaay way to distinguish my fleet from an opponent's. Red for Rebel. Blue for Imperials.
It is stupid simple and effective. Every new player at our open play nights has thought I paid for custom stands.
