Cracken's Speeding AF2As

By Green Knight, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I saw a nice fleet with some Neb-Bs w/EAs the other day, under Cracken. At first that seemed really silly, but it got me thinking - how would it be like to NOT have to worry about arcs at all, just zip around at speed 3?

This is a variant I came up with:

REBEL FLEET (400 points)

1 • Objectives - Most Wanted - Fire Lanes - Superior Positions (0)

2 • Assault Frigate Mark II A - Skilled First Officer - Spinal Armament - Gallant Haven (99)

3 • Assault Frigate Mark II A - Skilled First Officer - Spinal Armament (91)

4 • Assault Frigate Mark II A - Skilled First Officer - Spinal Armament (91)

5 • GR-75 Medium Transports - General Cracken - Walex Blissex - Jamming Field - Quantum Storm (52)

6 • Jan Ors Moldy Crow (19)

7 • YT-2400 (16)

8 • YT-2400 (16)

9 • YT-2400 (16)

It breaks out the underused AF2A, gives it spinals for 360 3R+1B coverage and some SFOs for command agility. Speed 3, Nav all the way to victory (a bit simplified, but you get the picture).

Cracken on a speed-boat at the back. Squad cover is from Jan and 3 YTs. Yes, yes, I know: no Escort. But Jan sticks in the shadow of the Jamming Field/Gallant Haven until needed. It's a bit tricky, but it's doable. Oh, and those 3 AF2A have double blue AS, so kind of hurts for squads to get too close to them.

Not sure if it's THE list, but it has a them and is fun.

Go Cracken!

I've plotted it, I've planned it, I've tested it, but I've come to a couple of conclusions:

1) Tractor Beams, if they make a comeback, are your bane.

2) Even if Tractor Beams don't make a Comeback, Konstantine is your Bane...

Cracken has such a narrow range of operation when you consider the Nebulon-B and the Assault Frigate... Losing even a single speed, and you lose his effect... Granted, its not like its tantamount to immediate death, but... Its something to consider.

After spending 3 weeks driving Ackbar Frigates around at Speed 3 just to get used to Cracken, I'm not 100% sold on it for the above reason... BUT, there are a lot of fleets out there that don't capitalise on either Konstantine, G7s or Phylom Q7s at the moment... And it'll be very useful for that.

I just cleaned house vs. Konsy and his slicers and tractors and whatnot, so I can day that it works...however, Gink did forget to tractor a couple of times and I very nearly was forced of the table twice.

In conclusion it was a tricky matchup, but nothing but navs and SFOs on all Afs worked quite well.

Good to know its worth considering still, then... I mean, I put a lot of practice in, and then hit this theorycrafting wall and was questioning my life. :D

It's a rough matchup, esp. is Slicers are involved (always take SFOs with Cracken's speedwagons). I'd be pretty confident against anything w/o slicers, but Konsy AND slicers? Very tricky. Can quickly turn into a bloodbath.

Also, Gallant Haven not doing much for me*. Same with Jamming Field. Make keep GH, but JF will be swapped for Comms Net, to hand out Nav tokens.

* because my squad game sucks maybe...

But Spinal AF2As...it was grand!
