DON'T READ IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR SANITY

I was actually debating making a thread about this the other day entitled "my regionals dice hate me"..... I consistently roll well below average with both sets of my regionals dice. It is not uncommon for me to roll four blacks and get hit/miss/miss/miss, reroll all of them and still only get one or two hits. Or roll out of the front arc of my ISD and get hits only with my blue dice. My core set/dice pack dice roll waaaayyyyyy better than my regionals ones...

Am I the only one that is going to pick up a big bag of epsom salts to test all his dice tonight?

What are the chances that people would test their dice and bring essentially weighted dice to a competitive event?

I mean, I know mass produced dice are never going to be perfectly random (and possibly 8 sided dice are slightly less prone to weighting issues) but I do recall a recent game where i was using the same black dice for all the shots from a raider with CF and i kept rolling 3 x Hit/Crit on the blacks and now I'm wondering if some of my black dice are skewed...

People will...

I was one of the TO's involved in "Dice Gate" back in Australia.

Here's a quick synopsis:

Basically, this quick synopsis is nothing compared to the actual legal lengths we went through to prove the case. But you get the idea of what people will do when they can.

What are the chances that people would test their dice and bring essentially weighted dice to a competitive event?

That's what I do. I have two bags of dice:

One is marked "SHOW TO THE T.O."

The other is marked "DON'T SHOW TO THE T.O."

wow.

Subtle.

People who don't know Monty Python are soooo confused right now

Sadly, I am one of those people. I am thoroughly confused at the moment.

in all seriousness, I think i have like 15 dice of each color and randomly pick from a big pile of them for every game/tournament, but thinking back on my competitive experience, there were definitely tournaments where I rolled consistently badly and others where I rolled consistently well. I can't help but wonder now if I was just picking and then sticking to a subset of my dice with good or bad weighting.

I'm going to go home and fill a bowl with room temperature water and a bunch of salt and any non-random dice are going in the trash (favourable or not). I couldn't live with myself knowing I won a game because I was potentially running bad dice.

Balance is easy to test. Float them dice in a bowl of saltwater. If one side is biased to always face up, the die is not balanced.

What also floats in water?

LOL CN. OMG thank you, I needed a laugh right now.

I have no idea what this thread is about

wow.

If that was in response to Dice Gate:

Close to $5000 worth of Product Prizes throughout the events, too.

You want a easy solution?

Used the same dice for each player's! No way to have different result. If I got good dices, you have good dices too. If they suck, they suck for both! ;)

But I don't play in tournement so I don't know if there a rule that you have to bring your own dices, so maybe my easy solution is invalid.

Let's face it, the venn diagram of people who post on internet forums and people who are not familiar with Monty Python references probably looks like this:

Beeeeeewwwwwbs.

It is allowed and enforceable throughout a tournament to do that.

But it tends to give you a bit of a 'stigma' for suggesting it... As it implies a lack of trust in your opponent, and a lot of people are superstitious about their dice anyway.

In the case of Dras' story above simply sharing dice didn't work. If you used his dice, you would lack the "knowledge" that they were weighted and how to make them work so they would appear normal. When he was asked to use shop dice he left the tournament.

Cheaters gonna cheat, just sad that it comes to that.

Weird that people are reporting funky results on their factory dice though... that is kinda disturbing.

when I did a quick search on how to test dice a good video came up where a guy showed various D20s that were badly weighted and when he cut them open they were just poorly manufactured. I have zero idea if this affects Armada dice at all or as much as it seems the weight and the lie of 8 sided dice might function slightly differently as the counterweight of a given face isn't exactly on the the opposite side perpendicularly. I will be very interested to see what happens and I will try and post results on the forum later based on testing my dice.

The other side of it is, if they are just poorly manufactured dice, then everyone should be fairly equally affected... (Apart from exceptions, such as Regionals dice)...

Since its not like there's many 3rd Party Armada Dice Manufacturers... (I only know of 1, after all.)

Except the people who theoretically test their dice and pick out the favourably weighted ones.

I honestly doubt people like that exist and I certainly have never played any judging by the way people lackadaisically collect dice randomly at the end of the game and are happy to just have the right number, never any concern about which were "their" dice. I would be surprised if no less than 25% of my dice were at one time someone elses!

I mean, you are correct, there are certainly some people out there like that... But its going ot be such a small minority, and they're going to be easily spotted and thus, foiled... Because, as you say, who is meticulous about their dice, anyway? Its certanly easier when you're either throwing masses of dice, or very few dice, and Armada seems to be a middle ground on that.

Now I start to have doubts. I get a lot of greats rolls...

Thought it was mostly my good old rolling I learnt playing risk, never known how but I roll a lot of sixes.

I hate when people use a "technique" for rolling dice. The game is balanced under the assumption that dice are rolled randomly with a smooth distribution. Any attempt to skew this hurts the game. Go ahead and hope.for a good roll, but don't activity try to impact the roll.

I actually find it odd that the regional dice are suspected to be off balance. Clear dice tend to be better balanced because imperfections in manufacturing are more visible (air bubbles, unevenly mixed material). I'm interested in seeing the results.

If this refers to me, its entirely subconscious. I struggle to roll 1s and hit 6s regularly. Its an affliction.

@Ginkapo. While you made me think of it, I was not implying that you are that type. I ment the kind of person who practices rolling the dice. The type who place the dice with a face up in their hand and drops instead of rolls and variations on that.

Want to play Axis and Allies sometime ?

I'm also laughing at the forumite who claims to have watched Monty Python in its entirety (recently).

Did you watch all the TV series? Huh? Yeah, right.

I have it on DVD... Binged, its only a couple of days.
