StoneStokes, The Lazy Painter

By stonestokes, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Here's my very own vanity painting thread. The problem is that I'm really pretty lazy, and more than about 5 or 10 minutes of work is a bit much for my short attention span. So these are more just detailing than full repaints.

Enjoy.

Most recent first: I wanted to match my old TIE Bomber and TIE Punisher to my new Imperial Veterans TIE Bomber and the red stripes of Imperial Aces.

I wish rebels were this easy to paint...and that I had a steady enough to paint...and actually knew how to paint.

Please describe in great detail how you did the blood stripes so cleanly...!

I used cheap paint and employed a steady hand. The paint was a Sharpie paint pen—oil based, fine point (not extra fine, but that might work also).

Here's one of the first ships I painted using this Lazy technique. I give you Biggs Darklighter.

You can really see the sloppiness in these close up photos. That's the Lazy technique. Still, I really like the way he looks on the table. When he's in play, I don't even notice that the reds are slightly different hues.

That's the difference between tabletop quality and display quality. I was told that display quality is holding the model up close (like your pictures) and tabletop is looking at it at arm's length. Looks good enough to me! As you said, when it's on the table it's too far away to notice details anyway.

multiple megapixel macro photography can make any mini look terrible, to be honest. As long as it looks good on the table, it's good.
