Rieekan's Raiders

By Englishpete, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I am a dedicated Imperial player but recently I've had a yen to dabble in the Rebellion and came up with this. It looks solid, but combat will tell I guess.

Faction: Rebel Alliance
Points: 399/400

Commander: General Rieekan

Assault Objective: Advanced Gunnery
Defense Objective: Contested Outpost
Navigation Objective: Dangerous Territory

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 points)
- Yavaris ( 5 points)
- Adar Tallon ( 10 points)
- X17 Turbolasers ( 6 points)
= 78 total ship cost

MC80 Assault Cruiser (114 points)
- Defiance ( 5 points)
- Raymus Antilles ( 7 points)
- Engine Techs ( 8 points)
- Electronic Countermeasures ( 7 points)
- X17 Turbolasers ( 6 points)
- Leading Shots ( 4 points)
= 151 total ship cost

[ flagship ] CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
- General Rieekan ( 30 points)
- Leia Organa ( 3 points)
= 72 total ship cost

1 "Dutch" Vander ( 16 points)
1 Wedge Antilles ( 19 points)
1 Jan Ors ( 19 points)
1 Luke Skywalker ( 20 points)
1 Dash Rendar ( 24 points)

You may wanrt to move Adar Tallon away from Yavaris (so you can position the squad, Adar it and double tap with Yavaris).

Also I would try to get 4 activations by trading MC80 to 2 smaller ships, but this one is personal preference.

I'm a regular Rieekan Defiance guy, so I'll give you my take.

I think your list is trying to do too much in different areas. You've got an MC80 Assault+Defiance, XI7, and Raymus, all of which scream battleship. You've also got 5 Aces and Yavaris, which suggests maybe you should have both more squadrons and a Command cruiser instead. You didn't fill the second defensive retrofit on your Assault Cruiser, which is the biggest reason to take an Assault Cruiser instead of the Command and the biggest thing that gives it a lot of staying power. I'd revise to emphasize one of those two directions.

Let's talk about Defiance. Defiance loves to go late in the round after the opponent has moved most of their ships. So how do we create that situation? Well, we can aim to go second, which no doubt you're trying to do. You cannot count on it. Some people bid to go second. Your opponent could make you go first. But first/second is not really the main problem. What will help you in both situations is having another activation so that you can get the opponent to move as much as possible, thereby giving you your Defiance die. Corvettes are really your main option here. Nebulon-Bs are possible, but if you outfit them at all, you very quickly outpace the cost of the Corvettes.

Defiance also loves to double-arc. In that case, you're going to end up a bit more pointed toward the enemy than you might in an Ackbar build that just wants to broadside. There's a real danger of your front arc being capped. So that's where your additional activation gives you a solid support ship that can patrol your front arc. The best players know this and will aim to get a ship to block you. Engine techs won't help you here, and since you're aiming to go later in the round. Where I've seen engine techs work is in an Ackbar list with a strong first player bid. In that case, you're not giving the opponent a chance to move into your front arc and you're looking to last/first into a great firing position that exploits both broadsides. That doesn't work with a Defiance list that is aiming to go second and move late in a round consistently. In my experience, excellent placements and a clear plan for where you want to be on turns 2 and 3 are what will bring you to success. You simply wait for everyone to move and then take your shots. Its hard to avoid your front arc.

Putting Rieekan on your Corvette means that you lose the Corvette from the fight or risk losing Rieekan. YOur MC80 cannot tank everything by itself. It needs support ships. Rieekan needs to be on Defiance and you have to accept that if you lose it, you likely lose the game. I'm also not sure Leia is worth it. Sw-7 in a Rieekan list makes for a solid ship.

Here's a thought: Drop engine techs, Leia, Jan, XI7, change Adar for a Veteran Captain. That's 43 points, or minimally enough for a second Corvette-B with SW-7 when combined with your 1 point remaining in your list. I honestly don't think Luke fits great in your list. A regular X-wing is probably good enough. That's enough to put SW-7 on your other Corvette and spares you a couple of points for a bid. That's a minimal set of changes to your list, but I'm absolutely certain it will work better and play better. The Corvette-Bs will take some practice, but you can do some pretty nasty things with them in a Rieekan list. A double-arc puts 6 damage on anything that tries to park itself in the front arc of your MC80. Experiment and see. That's the best way to learn a new list.

Ive played around with a similar list but with 4 activations.

It works pretty well.

The main damage dealers are the squadrons especially with Yavaris.

Jaina's Light hangs back and adds chip damage, while the Covette B acts as an extra activation and Admiral lifeboat.....stays out of the fight

Commander: General Rieekan

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Fleet Ambush
Navigation Objective: Superior Positions

400 Points

Assault Frigate Mark II B (72 points)
- Adar Tallon ( 10 points)
- Flight Controllers ( 6 points)
- Boosted Comms ( 4 points)
= 92 total ship cost

Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57 points)
- Yavaris ( 5 points)
- Veteran Captain ( 3 points)
= 65 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette A (44 points)
- Jainas Light ( 2 points)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits ( 7 points)
= 53 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
- Rieekan ( 30 points)
= 69 total ship cost

1 Luke Skywalker ( 20 points)
1 Wedge Antilles ( 19 points)
1 Tycho Celchu ( 16 points)
1 "Dutch" Vander ( 16 points)
1 Dash Rendar ( 24 points)
1 Han Solo ( 26 points)

Guys guys guys.

Where is Keyan? It really helps to have two major threats as Yav tends to prevent squadrons from moving into position for the next salvo. You want to be killing multiple ships not just one, so run Luke and Keyan as a tag team! Luke for small ships, Keyan/Nym for the big ones.

Good points!

This is a good example of a squadron route with Rieekan. I've seen the basic structure with different squadrons and upgrades to taste. Do you find you get good use out of the Boosted Comms? I'm on the fence with them. It seems like the opponent is either barreling toward me, or my ship is barrelling in the direction of the squadrons, in which case the BC aren't as useful.
