=THE NEXT ARMADA EVENT ON VASSAL= ROUND THREE... FIGHT!!!

By doobleg, in Star Wars: Armada

Cactus vs. LTD is tentatively scheduled to start 1am-2am Sunday morning Pacific Time, 7pm Australian on the 24th.

Hmmmm what are the chances of me getting top 8.. . Not very good 8 think. . .

Hmmmm what are the chances of me getting top 8.. . Not very good 8 think. . .

Remember, there's a wild-card entry for the highest scoring player in round four. That means anyone who doesn't make the top 7 still has a shot going into the final round! :D

Did someone ask for expert analysis?

Well too bad. You get me instead writing a Matchup of the Week.

Great analysis. I agree the match up should favour Ginkapo (by a small margin), but also consider PT106 Paul to be one of the very best ISD pilots I've ever seen. He manages to get angles and moves out of those large ships that few players ever see, let alone pull off.

Strike that, PT106 is THE best ISD pilot I've ever seen and I recommend his vlogs to anyone who wants to use angry space triangles :D

And for those wishing to watch, it will be taking place:

Saturday 9AM EDT/1PM GMT

Oooh had a team tourney idea.

4 players per team. Team without initative chooses an objective colours.

Then each team alternates, starting with the initative team, choosing an objective for each match up. No objective can be used twice.

So, Ginkapo vs PT106 ended in my victory (313-92, MOV 221 (9-1))

We played Most Wanted with Ginkapo being first player and Admonition/Comm Net Gozanti as most wanted ships.

It was a really close game with a lot of maneuvering and some lucky dice rolls for me. The turning point of the game happened when Admonition unloaded double-arc shot on my ISD1

and ended up in close range side arc on that ISD (with Lando being exposed to close range front arc). Some hot rolls allowed me to kill both MC30s in one ISD activation, which sealed the game (as I would be ahead on points even after losing an ISD and the remaining firepower wasn't enough to kill both of them)

In the end I ended up killing everything but Ackbar's MC30 and Tycho and losing Raider and Most Wanted Gozanti.

It was a very tough game with Ginkapo being a great opponent as usual, however dice gods ended up being on my side this time.

Doobleg vs Rekkon is kicking off RIGHT NOW!!!

Doobleg defeats Rekkon 7-3, with final scores 149 to 60.

Rekkon was first player, and the objective was Dangerous Territory.

So there I was, minding my own business, when suddenly I was pulled out of hyperspace by THREE INTERDICTORS!!! I tried shooting at one, but he kept repairing. I shot him some more, then the OTHER Interdictors gave their shields to the first one, and then they grew them back! And this was all AFTER the Interdictors used space magic (or as they called it, "gravity") to drag the rocks closer to them to score easy objective points. Jerks!

So after four rounds of concentrated fire I *finally* downed the Interdictor.

... and then I ran like hell. :P

SUCH a tanky list, and Rekkon played it well. One of my corvettes was down to one hull point and the Star Cruiser had taken some damage, otherwise I got away clean. The Interdictor fleet was super-tough, but lacked punch. Still, it's a great indication of the new control dynamic that this ship is going to introduce into the game. Can't wait for it to drop for real!

Thanks for the game, Rekkon, and best of luck in Round 4! :D

Do you think 2 Tanky interdictors with Gozanti and Fighter support could do the trick?

LTD vs Cactusman17 has come to an end.

Cactus played a vicious game of cat and mouse, with me as the mouse.

He took first player, and chose my Contested Outpost.

I killed Devastator, both Gozantis and all the fighters. Only Demolisher survived.

I lost two GR75s, and the Dodonna TRC90 in the final turn due to a dumb move.

Cactus scored: 153

I scored 349, with an MOV of 196, 8/2.

I will post a longer brief later, but I have never played Devastator before, and I'm amazed I did as well as I did.

Thanks to Cactus for staying up very late / early to play.

Cheers mate.

(edit: also - big thanks to Cactus for overlooking the error with my listing on the board - very sportsmanlike conduct! As we say in my neck-o-the-woods, "Your blood is worth bottling.")

emfrank72 (328 points) vs PartyPotato (225 points) has come to end with a 7 to 3 victory for emfrank72 with a MOV of 103. The mission was Fleet Ambush so we were dealing out a fair amount of damage right from the beginning. I took out his scout frigate fairly early maybe around turn 2. I then took out his rebel transport with my ISD on turn 4 or 5. On that same turn his MC80 took down both my ISD and Gozanti but was then shot down by Boba Fett and a couple of Firesprays. I would say the standouts for this battle were the Firesprays and Dengar for letting them ignore the A-wings and focus on the capital ships. The dice gods seemed more in my favor for much of the game unless his MC80 was shooting at my ISD and then they had no mercy for me either. Neither of us knows how Dengar managed to survive this battle as he was down to 1 health by turn 4 and was a prime target by everything Mr. Potato could throw at him. My Interdictor really didn't contribute a lot to the battle except for using projection experts to keep the ISD in the fight a turn or two longer. It did get in a couple of lucky shots on the MC80 that may have made the difference. I did use its G-8 experimental projector to keep the MC80 from ramming the Gozanti one turn but it was rammed to oblivion on the next turn.

Thanks again to PartyPotato for a great game.

Beefcake4000 vs Matt Antilles concludes with Matt winning, 400 - 22. I was first player and chose his Intel Sweep. After 4 rounds of intense battle, Beefcake4000 called the game and conceded due to having little chance of landing any more meaninful hits before the Liberty was destroyed. I had killed his Mc30, Dash Rendar, Bright Hope and had severely mauled the Liberty. He killed my two A-wings and the TRC90 was 1 hull point away from being destroyed with 2 hungry Rogues within striking distance. Despite his best efforts and multiple close range shots, his Mc30 was unable to bring down any of my flotillas. Yay Scatter! It amazes me how survivable flotillas are. My Lando Mc30, for the second time this tournament, scored a lucky red dice Accuracy while firing at a flotilla in close range and one-shotted it. My Mc30s took very little damage during the game, as the Liberty was doing a good job of pummeling the CR-90 and my Electronic Warfare flotilla, Quantum Storm. Both of those ships barely survived the encounter. Overall was a great game with a lot of tense situations.

WGFN911 vs Malucca is on Vassal right now.

One week to go, gents! How we doin'? :)

CarribeanNinja's January Mollasses Fleet vs Matt-Shadowlord's Rogue Madness will be tomorrow.

Admiral Konstatine, Admiral Titus, 4 Tractor Beams, Interdictor, Supressor and G-8 Experimental Projector vs a fleet that would really prefer to move fast. It should be very entertaining!

Sanquinary Dan vs CaptainICT We were planning on tonight, but had problems, so we are now setup for next Tuesday at 9 eastern/8 central.

Starting now!

Dangerous Territory, the Mollasses fleet is player 2.

Tgall vs Lyraeus happening right now!

Come watch a Rhymerball vs DtO!

Matt vs CaribbeanNinja

A hard-fought battle across dangerous territories, with the perfidious rebels thinking it prudent to give all but one Objective to the Empire, and play from a cowardly long range as long as possible. Even with every possible effort made to avoid or mitigate them, the G8, tractors and Konstantine were effective and the Rebel frigates stalled repeatedly despite navigation commands from their bridges.

A surprise Squadron command to waiting rogues turned the tide of the fighter engagement, and the Ties were destroyed in the nick of time. The first casualty was a flotilla mangled at long range by a lucky shot, then the rapidly repairing Interdictor, which just couldn't patch itself as fast as the waves of damage arrived.

Both Victory Star Destroyers were dispatched by the end of turn 5, leading to a Rebel win --- and surprisingly, with no Rebel casualties taken!

Imperial 75 vs Rebel 386

Matt wins 9-1 MOV 311

MattShadowlord is such a great player and his is the well-oiled fleet. I played very aggressive to see what in the heck Konstantine can do. It's very fun! In the end I paid for my aggression dearly. Ackbar popped me with dem gunnery teams something fierce!

WHOA WHAT A GAME! tgall vs Lyraeus ended with 207 to 460! so 253 in the favor of the rebels!

So it was a great game where I picked his precision strike (seriously. . . 7 rogues means NO SUPERIOR POSITIONS!!!! EVER!). from there tgall put 4 tokens at an angle on the board which told me where he would deploy the bulk. I had miscounted the deployments (again) and thought I would see a second ship. . . alas is was not going to happen and so I guessed.

The breakdown of the game:

Turn 1 was bland with Rhymer doing his Rogueball thing (that rogue ball is INTENSE!!!!!). In the past I placed Admonition and my nameless wrong so I was happy I had it right this time. Admo got beat up but lived! I fully expected a Squadron command from either Dominator or Suppressor (huh. . . suppressor was never used. . .) and I was spot on in the later for T2. in T2 Admo gets the snot beat out of him and lived through it all but alas. . . he had no tokens left. . .

Still at the start of Turn 3 he unloads onto Dominators side arc and deals 5 damage (I am crying over the lack of an evade at this point because of a blank red) and I get my black crit! YAY!!! That turn Admo dies to a squadron token Spray that chases him down and finishes their work (i came into this expecting the loss of both 30's and a 3rd ship). I thought I was inside with the Arc line for a shot but I was told no. I thought I print screened it but even going back my computer is being stupid about it. So, Admo dies, my nameless 30 is in front of Suppressor and I was able to dodge Demolisher for another turn which was great for me! My Slicerbeams did not do much this game but they were there for activations and for control when I needed. By the end of Turn 4 Dominator is down to no shields and 2 hull. . . . I have 3 ships in striking range but my flagship is in danger so I take a chance! OH and my nameless 30 is down to 3 shields on one side, 1 redirect and 2 evades. . . That dange ROgue Ball did work! I did ask for a double Acc roll from a Firespray and the dice gods rewarded me so that was great ^_^

Turn 4! I start with my flagship, all the cap ship needed was 2 damage for the kill so I roll my red and blue and get 2 crits. Dominator has no brace at this point and goes down with Ozzel. . . thats what he gets for getting to close to the asteroids :P I get my flagship to safety and Demo comes screaming in at my nameless 30. He rolls a Double and hit on the reds. . . and 2 hits on the blacks. . . which he Ordnance Experts. . . into 2 hits. SO he has no crits and I redirect 3 damage to my only side with shields (he intels the redirect but who am i kidding, I am burning that regardless). From there my 30 shots its measly rear dice getting a hit/crit on the black and a crit or hit I dont remember on the red. I leave it and I intel his brace. By this time he has been taking shots from my TRC90's and that has left him with 0 shields on the front and left and 1 shield on the right. Well I APT's and pick the crit where he cant use critical effects. He is at 3 cards and no shields left. My next activation is my last TRC90 who rolls its red and blue from the side getting a hit and a hit. . . I debate for a crit but he has brace so I change my mind and go for the guaranteed kill instead of 15 points and a prayer for structural damage. I kill demo guaranteeing this as the last round. . .

SO I finish my movements, my Slicerbeam75 Transports did little that game but that was fine. If demo had lived I was going to neutralize it with a tractor beam and slicer tools it to a Con Fire and jump into its side arc.

The squadrons go. . . my heard is going crazy at this point. . . WOW. So 2 of his aggressors end up killing my nameless 30 which I expected (i mean really 2 cards and no shields, its dead :P ) but I was hoping it would absorb more attacks. From there tgall attacks my non flagship who I sent the way I did to drag the fire (I did not want to see a Rhymerball focused on my Flagship!). tgall comes in creaming and strips the 90 down to 1 crit and no shields on the front and sides! and the game ends!!!

Since we are still using the orginal tournament rules I got 460 points. the 60 from my Precision Strike tokens, and tgall got 207, 15 points of that from a victory token at the end.

GODS what a great game. I though tgall had me for a bit there. I knew I had the activation advantage but like Mala stated when I asked before we started it was going t be tense!

tgall was a fantastic opponent. He was cunning though I think he could of used the Objective more. That is just me though. When you play Precision Strike a goal has to be to take as few crits as possible and I did that. I did that with Admo a lot. Sadly I did not get more tokens like I wanted. it is hard to get those tokens against a flotilla without squadrons to eat through the defense tokens and such. . .

On my end. . . I had Bright Hope and Quantum placed in the wrong places they should of swapped places I think. I got lucky but also a bit calculated. tgall had some blanks from his crits and some Bomber Command Center rolls that turned back into an accuracy which assisted me out in the long run but that is all laws of averages. Other than that, tgall's squadrons were on POINT! Gods, I have not faces a tougher batch I think.

Sounds like a good game Lyraeus. Just a heads up: the new tournament FAQ only makes the final MOV no higher than 400. You can get as many victory points as you want prior to the end of the game. So you'd still be at 253 regardless.

We're not using the new tournament regulations for this tournament, as they were introduced half-way through the Swiss rounds. As such, 400+ final mov is still possible. ;)
