Dengaroo Anonymous

By Polda, in X-Wing

Hello everyone, I'm M. and I...

I...

I flew Dengaroo today and I felt dirty doing it.

I don't know if it's the Zuckuss forced rerolls, not caring about actions on Dengar or running away with Manaroo but... but... I feel like I'm hurting my friends by stacking 20 stress tokens on a ship that's somehow still pumping out 6-8 hits a round (before green dice).

So that's my story.

If you have a similar one, step forward and speak up.

Fly casual. And don't be a d**k.

Note: Clearly, this thread is about when you felt like the biggest scumbag while playing the game.

if it helps, just tell your friends to think of Dengar as 100 points of ship rolled into one

because when all you're left with is poor manny, Dengar might as well have been the entire list :P

I will say it's probably Zuckuss that makes you feel dirty, but take it from me your opponents were asking for it when they picked up and rolled lucky green dice

sure, it might seem dirty to deny your opponent's (undeserved) defense of your attack, but there is no better feeling in the game than getting stonewalled by 3 naked evades only to zuckuss them all away :)

I didn't fly a Dengaroo list, but I can totally relate with the dirty feeling after Dengar with Zuckuss crew abuse on your opponent. I feel like after using that combo that I won't do so again until they errata that. I totally wasted an opponent by piling on the stress, and after I ran out of stress tokens, it felt really wrong.

I said right after he said GG, "I'm never doing that again. That was terrible, I'm sorry man."

small note about the stress, it's not like you're ignoring it completely

first, you need manaroo. Without her, everything falls apart

second, there are some things you can't ignore, specifically you can't barrel-roll and you can't perform red manuevers.

why does that matter? the jm5k only has one white segnors and Dengaroo's Dengar really wants his ability . When your entire squad's damage output is dependent on one ship, you don't want to miss out on 50% of your output just because you weren't facing the right way

I feel like you're missing the point of this thread FGD.

I used Dengar with Zuckuss, and it feels dirty, and I regret it.

trying to help assuage the regret is all

because there are things out there more worth feeling bad about

like constantly rolling perfect evades <_<

I feel dirty by using this list in a semi causal 8 man tournament and won 2 out of 3 games 100-0 (3rd game lost to bro bots 25-100)

Tri hwks (100)

Palob Godalhi (38) - HWK-290

Expert Handling (2), Twin Laser Turret (6), "Gonk" (2), Cloaking Device (2), Moldy Crow (3), Stealth Device (3)

Torkil Mux (31) - HWK-290

Twin Laser Turret (6), Zuckuss (1), Feedback Array (2), Stealth Device (3)

Spice Runner (31) - HWK-290

Twin Laser Turret (6), Flight Instructor (4), Feedback Array (2), Stealth Device (3)

I played against Dengaroo at the Vancouver regional and I felt dirty beating it.

My ghost was nearly dead (1 hull, 1 shield) so I pooped out a Zeb phantom. Dengar was shieldless but otherwise healthy. He shot at the ghost through an asteroid and failed to kill it, then it put 2 damage on him with the TLT. Zeb fired next and did hit, direct hit and killed him.

Next turn Manaroo tries to finish off the ghost and also failed. Sabine and the TLT blow off her shields, then Zeb fires and pushes 2 crits through.

Direct hit, major explosion->direct hit!

Game over. Sometimes you gotta fight dirt with dirt.

I don't feel bad at all about Zuckuss. Maybe if the meta wasn't filled with overpowered invincible ships, you wouldn't need to run Zuckuss.

I'm glad that this is a massive NPE list for everyone, good. I thought that turrets take skill, care about maneuver dials, and don't ruin the game. Isn't that right, everyone? Right? The game isn't broken and isn't just a win in the list building phase upgrade card fight, right?

Maybe you should just get good and just block Manaroo. If she ptl's her dial is real limited. Stop using hyperbole, there is no such thing as an, "autoloss".

Ahahahahahaha!

We are playing a league that after the first game you play your opponents list.

My opponent flew a Palp Shuttle list, therefore so did I on the second game. I Palp'ed a lot, over and over and over. I still feel the darkness bleeding into my soul. I will never get rid of the hate that burns in me now.

This shame....unbearable......I shall never fly a Palp again.

You should feel dirty after flying Dengaroo. It's called Scum for a reason :)

I played a game vs a friend once, a casual game, and used Fel. It was disgusting. Casually moving out of arcs, auto-thrusting, turtling. Didn't even have Palp on the table and it was still gross. Almost cost me a friend. We've agreed to never speak of it. But sometimes, I feel the itch.... shame too.

Question:

What if my list is a single Spice Runner HWK with no upgrades?

Then you may look forward to a 50% win rate.

Better: show up with whisper or soontir and a 60-70 pt init bid... and know the ships well enough you can solo the occasional list with them.

Is dengaroo actually good against things like 3x defender or 3 u boats? I've never seen dengaroo flown but it feels like relying on 1 ship for output makes it hard to win against things like ion defenders and high alpha strike.

I have a story about Direct Hit. In a recent game, in the opening round, the first shot of the game, I killed Whisper with Crit-Crit.

How? Bossk's party bus.

VI + initiative means Bossk shot first, Mangler + Dengar got me the crit-crit, 4LOM blocked (uncloaked) Whisper's focus, Zuckuss forced a reroll of evade-focus to blank-focus, Bossk turned crit-crit into hit-hit-crit, and the card pulled was Direct Hit.

I could see the despair on my opponent's face. And I felt a little bit bad, until I yelled out "SHENANIGANS!!!"

Against U-boats? No idea. I'd assume not, but it keeps doing well, so. Against x7? Absolutely. Zuckuss means that, yes, they do have their focus token but they need to roll a positive result twice per die to actually get a positive result. So yeah, block one guaranteed but that still leaves plenty of other damage coming through. Plus, countermeasures. Between the permanent focus, rerolling a blank, and three agility during a crucial turn, he can pull ahead on the damage race fairly early. And he gets to shoot twice at the same targets, so that focus + evade has to do work across two incoming shots and one outgoing shot. Getting spread pretty thin there.

Although maybe you go triple TIE/D Ion Cannon Deltas.

If Manaroo has pushed and she gets ionized, you shut down the build temporarily and she can't run next turn, which should allow you to destroy her easily.

Dengar can only use his ability once per round, so you might as well spam more attacks out.

It's worth a try at least.

I killed a Manaroo and then ran away from Dengar for 65 minutes.

FELT GOOD.

Hi,

My name is K and I feel dirty when playing Dengaroo.

Not having a range restriction on the waifu's ability is completely insane.

That, and the delayed approach that I create - means very few ships can catch her - and if they can boost & barrel roll, even then it is tough.

I think the dirty feeling is using Zuckuss when you just don't care about stress. Then it becomes a horrible thing for any high-agility ship to face because unless oyu have an evade token, your likelihood of actually dodging goes down significantly.

It's a horribly punishing list for aces, to the point where I wonder whether it counts as a hard counter for palp/aces. Soontir is certainly going to think twice about getting in Dengar's face when he can only guaranteed-dodge a single attack and he'll be facing two or even three if Manaroo is in position.

DOubly so for the double APT variant. That is just vicious.

I fly a variant that can fire off 2 fully modded Advanced Proton Torpedoes if they choose to fire at Dengar. It works spectacularly and it's HILARIOUS. If they don't fire at Dengar, works for me too.

Must resist... playing... evil list... aaaaand I already built it :D Damnit Goomba! You're an enabler.

We were going to play a Coruscant Open revisited event at the club tonight but everyone is focused on the upcoming UK Nationals.

So I've been asked to fly some filth at them for practice so instead I'm going to be flying Dengaroo for the first time.

The anticipation is almost killing me....I feel dirty already
