In my experience, bidding is pretty controlled outside a few specialized lists (which generally involve a ship who's name rhymes with shmonisher). A 1 point bid could get you the initiative every one in awhile to change up the play experience. With the new waves coming out and decent 1 point upgrades (like medical team), I'm stuck in the conundrum deciding if a 1 point bid is ever worth it. Anyone have any thoughts?

I think its worth it. Really I think someone with a 1-5 point big is going to win the choice 60% of the time. The people with nutty huge bids only increase that 15-20% I'd estimate.

I guess the 1 point upgrades are starting to make me second guess that. Right now I'm thinking about running a 5 ship list centered around an MC80 Battlecruiser, and I have point to just bid or take a medical team. Turned out to be a tougher choice than I thought. Do you think any of the 1 point upgrades are worth it over the odds of the bid?
I don't know, I started to get into building lists with 15 point bids, and... I just don't care anymore. If I get to choose, I'll take 1st every time, but I'm just going to work on finding those objectives that play to the fleet strengths.
Now, a 1 pt bid is interesting. I dunno, it just is a matter of testing I think. If I don't care about bid that much, I'd be sorely tempted to just spend every point I can.

I typically build fleets that like to go second built around good objective selection, but going first can also be enough of an advantage.
In conclusion, if you build to not care about bids then you end up always having max points to play with, which is an advantage IMO.
