Something Uglier comes....

JdmbdWO.jpg 5GweE04.jpg 1DdSeSo.jpg

Hey, it has an engine! :) So Condor and Grouper? It's what the two TIE/K-Wing mashups remind me of at first glance.

These look terri-bad--in a good way! The K cockpit with the TIE panels looks almost decent, design wise. Good work!

The K is one ship I never picked up. It's too ugly as-is for the most part and never felt Star Warsy to me.

I got it in 1.0 for the cards (TLT of course), and actually used it once with Miranda on the table. I personally think it looks like a G.I. Joe toy from the 80s with all of the ridiculous turrets and missiles all over it, and can't stand the thing. So I felt zero pangs of guilt ripping it apart to make into an Ugly.

I like that!

Always enjoyed a handful of the Uglies. Mostly the Y-TIE and Chir'Daki. Even made edition one cards of both ships, and would make edition two if Strange Eons would actually let me use the plug in. Great job on all those flying junk heaps!

Thanks! I'm prepping for a new player day, league match, and tournament all this next week, so I haven't really had a chance to paint/make cards for the new Uglies. Still, playing is fun too, and I'll get plenty of painting time once January hits and I switch to night shift for a year.

Just got a new Firespray, so I decided to give it a quick Scrapyard Scum paintjob. This is clearly an independent merc that is down on his luck, soon to be scooped up by the Cuul'ti kajidic and encouraged to join up.

Only thing really left to do is to drill out the old engines and put in a couple of engine glow gems to finish it all off. This guy looks pretty good at table-top distance, the rust pops and the grime looks decent.

I love painting this ship. I wish I had a dozen of them.

Yours looks nice and ugly in all the best ways! The rusted skirt is really good.

Thanks! This ship was fun, and fairly simple, to paint. My other Firespray was my first repaint, and even though it is not a great paintjob I keep it around to see how far I've come. Good ships to paint.

My Hutt kajidic, the Cuul'ti, run a securities service for merchant escort/payment retrieval as part of their front business the Cuul'ti Merchant Services (CMS). Using a "company-store" mentality, they recruit and hire various independent enforcement agents (as well as having a sizable force of direct kajidic soldiers)- these agents will wind up selling portions of their ship's rights to CMS in return for non-contract covered repairs/upgrades/etc... This Lancer is in the process of being fully taken over, as the CMS crimson and bronze paint is on over half of the ship. Still, you shouldn't sign up for the job if you don't read the fine print!

Anyway, I've derided the Lancer in the past, due to it's Star Trek looks, but painting it was fairly fun and has given me a little more acceptance for the thing. Still some minor touch-ups and cockpit painting to go, but all-in-all I think it is ready to hit the tables. Too bad it is in a fairly lackluster place right now...
Up next is four more Uglies, the Y-TIEs and customs, and finally finishing my Hound's Tooth/Jumpmaster paintjobs that have been dragging for two months now.

Love the texture. Can i ask what technique did you use to get the dirty steel effect?

Sorry for the late response, I must have missed your comment! The dirty/rusty steel is pretty simple actually.

1. First layers are Citadel Iron Breaker steel color. Usually two coats will do to cover up the factory paint.

2. Multiple layers of Citadel Seraphim Sepia wash. I'm pretty liberal with its use and the multiple layers make some interesting weathered effects.

3. Sponging/selective drybrushing of Citadel Typhus Corrosion technical paint. This is the darker elements, which I tried to hit in the edges/depths/areas that would get dirtiest. I used it sparingly, as it is a dark brown that could have overpowered the other wash fairly easily.

4. Light lines of Citadel Ryza Rust dry paint. This is for the orange, actively rusting areas. Similar to the Typhus Corrosion, this was put into just the edges of the panels.

Up Next- Blooddrop Kimogila.

I apologize for the bad pics, this ship did not want to be photographed as every pic I took looked horrible. Painted similar to a Fang I did earlier, this Kimogila was a ***** to paint. No scheme seemed to work, so I fell back on this a as a plan D or so. Not very good, the blood drops looks better on ships with more angular panels, but it'll at least look decent on the table. Thanks for looking!

Finished the custom Uglies, which I'm calling the Condor Heavy Torpedo Bomber and the Kai Superiority fighter. Designed as export items from Cuul'ti Merchant Services, these two starfighters are painted in a neutral naval scheme rather than CMS' bronze/crimson or the Scrapyard Scum rusted junk. Here's the CMS sales pitch to go with the images.

A new set of starfighters to defend the galaxy!

Cuul'ti Merchant Services (CMS) proudly announces its newest line of starfighters, suited towards planetary defense and law enforcement operations! Fusing known technologies pioneered by Sienar Fleet Systems and Keonsayr Manufacturing, the Condor Heavy Torpedo Bomber and Kai Superiority Fighter represent a new standard in the world of affordable, cost effective starships.

Retaining select heavy weaponry of its K-wing predecessor, the Condor has been remade as a sleek, aggressive torpedo bomber. The Condor minimizes staffing requirements by eliminating the bombardier and dorsal turret gunner positions, replacing the bombardier with cutting-edge adaptive analytical droids and making the dorsal turret an upgradable option depending on the purchaser's requirements.

The Kai Superiority Fighter is expressly designed as a multi-purpose military or law enforcement heavy fighter. A rear turret and front-mounted cannon hardpoint allow for various roles from interception/incapacitation with ion/tractor weapons to total destruction when outfitted with laser weaponry, while the twin cockpit can be configured to provide comfort for up to three crewmembers (pilot, co-pilot/cannoneer, turret gunner).

For inquires about purchasing, please contact Cuul'ti Merchant Services- Trade Division, headquartered on Nar Shaddaa.

Note from New Republic Intelligence

-It appears the front corporation for the Hutt Cartel Cuul'ti kajidic, CMS, has recovered a number of usable BTL-S8 K-wing bombers and TIE starfighters. These salvaged ships have been combined to create two unique "Ugly"-type starfighters, the Condor and the Kai. Current intelligence operations are in progress to evaluate the performance of these ships and determine the location where CMS salvaged the ships. As of this memo, several system defense militaries and other notable individuals, some associated with organized crime/piracy, have purchased these starfighters from CMS.

The paint scheme that is featured on both ships appears to be from the Littoral Suppression on Trall IV, where system government forces destroyed several floating cities that housed dissident groups. The specific color scheme is from the 1st Operations Wing, noted for overcoming and eliminating rebellious forces armed with older-model TIE and X-wing starfighters.

Alright- I will be making 2.0 cards for these two, I've already got some stats/abilities floating around in my head/notepad. Other painting needed to be done is basically finishing up the CMS stuff I have lying around- the Jumpmaster, YV-666, Scurrg, and Lancer all need some detail work/touch-up/cockpits painted (as well as cockpits on these two). After that I have the pair of TYE-wings and Y-TIEs that need scummed up, and another Scurrg and Quadjumper that will be added to the rusty pile. I think I've pretty much painted pretty much every Scum ship there is, plus some kit-bashed Uglies, for my Scrapyard Scum fleet. Pretty soon I'll bust out the whole fleet for a fleet-pic, but until then, thanks for looking and commenting, I'll see you around!

This is great.

Thanks! You're right that does sound really simple. I'll figure out which scummy one of mine gets to feel the rust.

Great story @Ikka ! I appreciate the work you put into it.

"Finished" up my two Scurrgs. One in the classic CMS bronze and crimson, the other a rusted piece of scrap. I still need to do some touch-up work on the CMS Scurrg, but she's good enough for me to put on a table without wincing.

I've been getting quite a bit done lately, for me, and I'm working on my YV-666, getting it nice and scummy. Anyway, thanks for looking!

I love the "scrap" one. Is it a silver undercoat with Aggraxx Earthshade and orange rust marks?

Close, I put the exact paintscheme down a few posts ago. It uses all Citadel paints, though I'm sure others work just as well, its just what I have- Ironbreaker base layer (silver), Seraphim Sepia washes, Typhus Corrosion sponging, Ryza Rust streaks.

This is my first Seps ship, my BB-22. My Seps will follow a storyline where they barely managed to survive the Clone Wars and are now low-grade mercs/pirates for hire that my Cuul'ti Hutt kajidic has used for various operations. So they will have similar paintjobs to the Scrapyard Scum, with mainly metallics forming the base paints with rusted, weathered, and oxidized accents. This BB-22 is a very, very simple paint scheme, as I wanted to go slow with the new faction. I may later add some oxidized portions later but he is ready to go back to the table right now. Thanks for looking! aGYWMUe.jpg 2Z1OK62.jpg vId0T2y.jpg mUNo04I.jpg RsPmaSf.jpg kcyE74K.jpg

Whew, haven't posted in a while. Seems like I get focused on one project to the exclusion of others, and lately my Adeptus Mechanicus/Imperial Knights 40k army has been getting all my attention; combined with the fact that I've not played X-wing in a couple of months due to having too many gaming commitments and cutting down on some of them I've been neglecting my X-wing fleet. Since I just finished my 40k army and since my work buddy who plays 40k with me will be switching shifts and no longer has any real time off to play with me for a while, I've come back to X-wing. Played a couple of games two nights ago at my FLGS, won both (one of which was against a regular who usually gives me a run for my money) and figured I'd start up painting again. Still need to finish off the CMS repaints of the Jumpmaster and Shadowcaster (will probably work on them this weekend), as well as work on my Separatists more, but I managed to paint up a spare Fang I've had for a bit that never saw the table. Since he helped me win on Tuesday, this'll now be Fenn's ride whenever I need him. Still needs a little clean-up on the silver trim, but I like the scheme as it is completely different from my other Scum. As always, thanks for looking/commenting and good hunting!

Thanks! All of my scum will eventually have the green cockpits, it looks good on the tabletop and is fairly simple to do, which makes me happy.

Managed to "finish" up two Vulture droids and a Sith Infiltrator (Infiltrator still needs rust steaks and some cleanup), all painted in the same scheme- even less functional and more beat up, if that is possible, than the Scrapyard Scum, being as they are Separatists that barely survived the Clone Wars and are now very low-tier hirlings for the CMS/Cuul'ti kajidic. I also have come close to finishing, though it is not yet ready for pics, my Jumpmaster. And I just bare-metal base-painted two more Khiraxz that I got a while ago so I could fly 5 K-fighters, haven't thought up a scheme for them yet but am welcome to hear suggestions. I think I'll try to get a fleet pic in the next couple of days, though it will not be in the bathroom :D Thanks for looking!

You are becoming the RustMaster. I can hear those ships R2ly crying for an oíl bath.

One thing I could suggest trying out for the rust would be dry brushing the ryza rust over some parts the Typhus corrosion a bit. I've done that for rust and had good results. It gives the rust a bit more variety.
