Ikka's scrapyard
I enjoy the simple look to these cheap ships. What did you use for the green engine thing?

I got some cheap stick-on jewels from Hobby Lobby, I think they're normally used for fabrics. They come in a bunch of different sizes and colors, I'll edit this when I get home with a pic of what they look like.
Looking good! That bronze and copper color works so well.
Thanks. Games Workshop may be extremely overpriced, but their Citadel paints have some great metal hues.
The ships look good, but the Hound's Tooth needs some dirt to live up to it's Scummy reputation. At least that's what I would suggest.
Glad to see you posting again!
Yeah, I put a little copper discoloring on the 666 cockpit section, but I don't know what to do with the main color to make it dirtier. Maybe some silver on the edges to represent paint stripping or something similar? The Kihraxz will probably just get a nuln oil wash and light copper discoloration around the wing edges- my Kihraxz are a little better than the z95s or Scyks in terms of upkeep. Next Kihraxz will either be a gunmetal color or maybe black/red with battle scars. I also want to finish up my Lambda- need to have some fun Imps!
Thanks Force Majeure, got caught up in some major overtime at work, some minor burn-out in X-wing (wave 9 and 10 have been very "meh" for me), and started out a Warhammer 30k Dark Angels army for modeling/painting purposes. So I wound up not really doing anything for X-wing for about four months, but after seeing Rogue One and the announcement of the C-ROC, I was re-inspired and have decided to both start again with repainting and going to tournaments (more with fun lists than uber-competitive). So while I may be less involved here on the main boards, I'll definitely be working on painting.
Since I'm now pledged to paint up three units on the bolterandchainsword's Loyalty and Treachery III for 30k, I'll pledge here to paint up three ships by April 15th. I pledge to paint 1 Kihraxz, 1 Decimator, and 1 Z95 (my Natasha Pup) by April 15th. I've got no overtime in the foreseeable future, and tons of painting to do- wish me luck!
Got inspired, decided to paint today. Finished up my brass Kihraxz and got my Natasha Pup done.
Kihraxz
Light nuln oil wash and slight discoloration was all he needed to join the Scum scrapyard.
Natasha Pup
Same paintjob as my YV-666, but with a little more discoloration to show that it doesn't get out often.
As alway comments, questions, and criticism welcome.
Edited by IkkaHere's what happens when you paint when you are too tired. I thought that a white base with a wash of crimson would look neat. Instead...
I get something ugly that is some sort of pink/purple dipped monstrosity. Woke up, looked at it, and decided that I needed to start over. So...
Basic silver until I figure out what to do with it. At least my Y-wing is ok. I even like the rough white, as it looks like a pirate did it sloppy.
Any thoughts on where I should go with the Protectorate starfighter?
If you do a colored wash over the silver you can get a nice colored metallic shade. I've done blue and green over a silver base and had some pretty neat results.
Don't let the wash pool on the model. Either do multiple coats, allowing each coat of wash to dry, or mix a little color into acrylic medium for a wssh with more "body" and use it as a glaze.
Piscopas is right about tinting a silver base. Produces a nice effect.
True enough Stoneface, with the Protectorate in the end I just didn't care as it had turned out badly and I was probably not in the best shape to start with when I painted it.
I'm thinking about using a green glaze over it now.
Update- Since its been over a year, I thought that I would update people on my status. I had basically quit X-wing due to lack of motivation and serious fatigue- it was getting ridiculous for me to have to purchase Rebellion/Resistance ships in order to compete at local tournaments with my main factions of Scum and Empire. So I took a major break and focused on working on my Warhammer 40k armies- Dark Angels and Adeptus Mechanicus/Knight House, both building and painting.
Fast forward to now, when I was forwarded the 2.0 link by a friend of mine. I like it, I really do, and feel like I won't be super far behind others when I buy a couple of conversion kits (Scum and Imperial Navy). So in honor of that, I'm going to start up the scrapyard again and look at getting a couple of "newer" Scum ships in the next couple of weeks so that I can dirty them up. Looking forward to seeing you guys again, good hunting and happy flying!
Realized I hadn't posted up one of my first repaints, my Scum HWK-290. This is one of the "reputable" Scrapyard Scum ships. Not quite as dirty and ugly as most because it is used as an actual cargo hauler in the main.
Next up, I've ordered some more ships, so I will have repaints of 2 Fang fighters (with one being the silver one from earlier), another Kihraxz, and maybe a Kimogila if I can convince the wife, plus a Firespray that was my first repaint (its not very good). Also got a Guns for Hire Star Viper coming in, but might just leave that one as is- I like the color scheme already. Still, I'll probably modify the wings so it looks a little different.
Any ideas on other ships that should join the Scrapyard Scum? I have also written a little blurb on what/who the fleet works for that I might post later.
As promised- first repainted ship (aside from a TIE Interceptor that was painted red), here is my Scum Firespray. Very simple, mainly done in red and silver, with the panel lining done with Sharpie pens. I left the wings and rear all original paintjob. I've advanced a bit from this I hope, but it has some sentimental value. I might go back and re-do this, though my other thought is to just get anotger one for 2.0.
