A new book would have been nice. But I guess this new article shows they haven't been pressed into service on the Spice Mines of Kessel by Darth Mickey.

Okay, if we don't get a new announcement this month, we know something is very wrong. We've never gone four months* without a new book, save between the announcement of the Edge Core book and Beyond the Rim at the very beginning of this game.

And hopefully it'll be Shlam's Warrior. Since I expected to be in his position myself, I know how awful it must be to be waiting like that :( .

* A clarification: we've never gone five months without a new book; what I meant here was that we've never had four months without an announcement in a row, which we would if we don't get one in January (October, November, December, and January would all be book-less).

We have had two instances where the separation between announcements has been greater than 120 days: between Savage Spirits and Forged in Battle in 2016, and earlier in 2017 between Fully Operational and Cyphers and Masks . But both of those instances there were only three months with no announcement.

I wouldn't be so quick to be concerned in truth, with the back log of books and most of those only just moving from development I'd say they may need a bit more time to announce the follow up book.

They would not have started the era books with Dawn if they did not have plans passed the last career supplemental warrior.

There was a long time last year where nothing was actually released so I would not be surprised if they need the $$ to come in from these before being able to do anything else.

I will admit some concern that the Core books seem to be staying out of print long term. I’m gearing up for my next Saga and have a new three players this go ‘round. To give credit, FFG designed a great game and I’ve hooked even the most die hard WOTC true believers over the past few years. However, the main books are going at usury, gouging rates on many mainstream online retailer (one comedian on EBay thinks he’s going to get $1000 for “Age of a Rebellion.” I wish I was making that up).

luckily thanks to this community, which has just been the best I’ve ever been part of since the game launched, I know about Miniature Market plus there are some sane sellers on EBay if your patient. Point being, for the game to continue to grow and be profitable, thus justifying future books, having those available in the market is vital. I hope FFG hasn’t taken a “maintaining” position where they’ll just service the existing fanbase slower over time until it dwindles.

Of course that’s just a projection; I’m not saying that necessarily is the case. My overall question is when/if the Core books will get another run to repopulate the market and stop the toy hoarders and game gougers from wrecking everything.

Both the Edge of the Empire Core Rulebook and the Force and Destiny Core Rulebook list as available. Some of the other supplements have been reprinted or are being reprinted. Check out this page for more details: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/upcoming/

You know, we tried to create a friendly book exchange a few months back but there was little interest. The premise was "go to your local FLGS and see if they have Book X that Person Y is seeking" and then get them the contact info to call and mail order, or perhaps individuals could work out buy/ship/trade etc. I noticed my FLGSes have a decent stock but they don't normally sell online.

Both the Edge and Force Core books were out of stock, but as of Thursday the new reprints are in, so they are available direct from FFG. And the Age Core appears to still be available, too. So I'm not sure what the issue is...

Yeah, I'm looking for the Edge core book and FaD GM kit, too.

I would have gone with Darth Maus - but nicely played :)

Well well well...

We got an announcement of a GeneSys setting book. Fantasy setting, Terrinoth, etc. While I'm in love with dragons almost as much as I am with Mystics, and while I love the fact that this has been announced, I'm still jonesing for more Star Wars love!

But it's cool either way :) .

I would suspect that Genesys is a bigger cash cow than Star Wars. Not having to pay the mouse and all. While I doubt that Star Wars RPG is done, I have no inside information on the licensing contract, I would expect it to become the red headed stepchild. There will be more resources devoted to Genesys going forward.

FFG does not treat star wars as a red headed step child. Seeing as how they have 3 miniatures games, a card game, a dice game, and an RPG. the current delay of stuff was shipping related not FFG neglecting star wars.

I was specifically referring to the RPG and it's profit margin. I was referring to a delay in production of new products and the resources devoted to the Star Wars RPG. I have no insider information. It could simply be that resources normally devoted to SWRPG have switched to minis or such. Most likely they have been working on Genesys products however.

I don't think Genesys can be any kind of cash cow yet, since it barely came out a month ago.

My guess is that the Star Wars RPG delay is because Ghosts got lost in that shipping company's demise last year. FFG's RPG cash was invested in printing and shipping it, and then they had to reprint (and reship) it before they could recoup their investment. Even if insurance or something eventually covered the initial costs, the money and printing capacity was still tied up with Ghosts, meaning FO was delayed, which meant C&M was delayed, and so forth. Ghosts came out, FFG got money from distributors, and the logjam was cleared.

There were like 6 products on that boat.

So! Math! Who likes math? I'm assuming because you're here, you like math :) .

Actually, though, this is less math than just mild statistics. As of today, we are at 110 days since our previous announcement. The mean time between announcements so far has been ~55.19 days, with a standard deviation of ~37.82, giving a standard range of 17.38 to 93.01. Obviously, we're outside the standard range now, which means statistically we should start expecting something soon.

The other thing to look at is this: we are now tied for the 4th longest time between announcements. If we don't get a new one by next Tuesday, we will likely not get one until February. If that happens, we'll be at 132 days minimum, and solidly in second place for the longest gap, behind only the delay between the announcement of the Edge of the Empire Core Rulebook and Beyond the Rim . I.e. the very first one.

For those curious, third place is currently the Savage Spirits to Forged in Battle wait in 2016, and second place is the Fully Operational to Cyphers and Masks wait from last year.

2017 in general stunk: it holds two of the top five spots, and three of the top ten.

I don't like math I like mystic books...... *sulks*

I know, me too :( . You can't imagine how antsy I am right now! And we have a month and a half left to go :( !

I think this delay in announcements is purely due to that lost shipment. I think the updates are set to be timed with the books arriving in port. which messed up your numbers

It's possible, but then why were there announcements during the long delay where literally nothing was coming into port? I'm certain that there are hidden variables that I'm not privy to that are affecting it, but...it's just annoying :P !

use your prophetic powers to find those...

I'm trying, but it's harder than you think :P !

maybe try your feminine wiles on it?

If my little sister doesn't have her Warrior book by the end of May, there will be tears. How can FFG be so heartless and cruel? :(

Yeah doubt it is yet, but they correctly believe that it has the potential to make more money and are devoting the creative resources to to Genesys and L5R. This has to take away from SWRPG creativity. Just trying to be realistic and explain the lack of announcement of new books. I don't believe that there is anything to worry about. We will still get SWRPG books, the pace is just slowing down, it now has to compete with two other lines for developers.

On the other hand SWRPG is ranking in top five RPGs fairly consistently at least on roll20.
