Trends, Statistics, and Predictions!

By Absol197, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Future info on their Star Wars games. Could mean the RPG, could mean just talking about their miniatures stuff, could be anything really.

FFG has their panel today at 6 EST. Keep an eye out for announcements.

I'm literally 4 hours away but I don't have tickets. Feelsbadman.

Given the silence I guess nothing was announced for the RPG?

It does not appear so. I personally didn't expect an announcement. Celebrations seems like an odd place to announce something for RPG and miniatures. They tend to save that sort of thing for GenCon where more people would care.

Only announcement I could find was for the next Destiny expansion, Empire at War. Nothing on the RPG or miniatures lines.

Huh. Well, it's not Star Wars related, but that Legends of the Five Rings LCG looks pretty awesome! I've never done a LCG before, but that might tempt me.

Also, more on topic: COME ON, books! What's talking so long?

I gripe, but Ghosts technically isn't past schedule for moving to Shipping Now , even if it is getting close. I'm more annoyed at Fully Operational , which is taking much to long to get to the printers. In my opinion, at least :) .

I'm still waiting to get hold of the Mechanic EotE splatbook...

I'm waiting for the Warrior annoucement.

Yeah yeah, Shlam, rub it in!

"Oh, my favorite career book will be announced next and I can't wait!" :P

On the one hand, I kind of want to see how they develop and define the Mystic. On the other, Warrior is kind of unexciting right now, and needs something to spice it up a little and tie the specs together, offer some diversity to Warriors. Chances of either getting the zhaboka or another double-bladed sword?

* Sigh *

These long derths of information are really frustrating!

Also, know what else is frustrating? These darn Force books! Unless Ghosts changes status today or tomorrow, I'm gonna have to push the prediction back to May 25. And Disciples is not doing much better. I'm thinking we'll need to bump it back to June 1, at the least. And Fully Operational ? That one I need to push all the way back to August 3 already! I hate it when my initial prediction (which is supposed to be hyper-conservative) ends up being too optimistic.

Sorry folks, wish I had good news :( . Wish I had any news, to be frank.

My gut tells me something is up with RPGs in the new regime. These delays imply not only fewer staff, but a lesser importance placed on the products. I hate to be a purveyor of doom, but like Thrawn, I look for patterns and don't like some of the things I see.

Well, Green Ronin managed to finish Dragon Age RPG even though there was a ....GREAT deal of trouble with BioWare. I'm holding out hope that our guys will be able to finish. I would buy the books just to read, though I know all of them will be used.

Please don't give out on us, FFG!

Phee, do your mystic visions predict anything about FFG staffing issues?

I feel like the number of books released quarterly has been fairly consistent, it's just that in the beginning they where all Edge books but now it's spread across the entire system.

Recently Max Brook revealed he worked on some of the scum and villainy ships for xwing, so that indicates FFG is intentionally slowing RPG book production. It also may be a result of the GW split and halt to the 40k RPG production.

Another possibility is that FFG have allocated a small number of staff to as yet unannounced products.

L5R RPG?

I think the careers system would work wonderfully for the 7 Clans, 1 career per clan. But the Clans could also be represented by 7 species choices too while Careers are more in line with the current AoR ethos. The dice system, with tweaking, would fit very well. The Force Power structure would be also be great for Magic. Obviously we have seen a few home brew fantasy conversions so there is an interest amongst gamers, FFG would be silly to miss this opportunity. Having one core book would likely satisfy many players too, with a far reduced line of books resulting in less investment for a 'complete' game.

The only problem I see is it could affect the sales of the Star Wars system, so release should probably be around or after the last career supplement for FaD is released (GenCon 2018?). If they follow the SW production process they would have begun the design not long after buying the IP, we could even get the Beta this year!

I would be shocked if there wasn't some sort of L5R RPG in the works, so that could also be diverting Dev's attention.

In the end, release schedule does not necessarily correlate to development schedule.

And if they outsource printing to oversees factories, they can't really control the output, similar to the shipping issues.

Having been in a software development gig for 20 years now, can confirm this is truth. However, it still sucks from the consumer side!

Stuff is in development..............probably.........I heard some guy say.............maybe.............

Of course you did, dam pirate living in FFG's back pocket! Beta testing would be a fun experience.

Depends on where in the development cycle you come in and how FFG wants you to hit it. If they just want you to adapt the new trees and gear into your normal play style, that wouldn't be so bad. But if they'd like you to try and stress test it, try weird and unusual combinations and otherwise try to break the trees/gear, that could be tiresome. Oh sure, you'd get a look at the books a year before release, but you might not get to play for pleasure. Or as much pleasure as you'd like.

Those 20 years of software testing two posts ago? The first 10 or so were in games, at Electronic Arts, Sierra and so on - getting payed to play video games. On the surface, that seems like an awesome job (and it was), but I'm not just sitting there playing Halo all day long. I got broken maps, levels that didn't load 40% of the time, all kinds of balance issues and whatnot. Some days would consist of me getting enter player names over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Now I'll wager serious money that the beta testing that FFG asks isn't anywhere nearly as broken as what I had to do sometimes - but it may not be all fun and games too.

I'm expecting multiple announcements next week to correspond to May 4th.

The adventures are goofy to test, since you go back and work every option, so it's very not natural. The other stuff is typically just integrate and play it, break it, tell em.

What kind of books do we expect to get in the future for Edge of the Empire? The career sourcebooks are all finished up. More adventures? More settings? Something new?

Or...dare I say it...nothing at all? Is EotE finished?

All the beta testers sign Non Disclosure Agreements, they can't tell you what they are testing or have tested until it's released.
