Stupid double-post.

I concur, themensch.

My name is 'Taylor', so I'm actually better at taking someone else's stuff and putting a new twist on it.

But I'd love to see new stuff created by others. We have lots of talented and imaginative people on these forums.

I am a fan of creating these little bits and pieces with just enough information to add fuel to the brainfire, but no more.

Already done so, adapting a few of the planets from the original Marvel series and one of my own. May have to toss them up when I get to them once I get home this evening.

Fantastic! I actually don't have this sort of stuff in my GM Holocron, so I'm interested to see what you've come up with.

That's kinda my jam too. I was a musician by trade for many years, and my forte was to take other people's riffs and ditties and stitch them together into a cohesive song. Sadly, I am overly critical of my own riffs and ditties so I end up tossing them all away and thus I don't write a lot of music as a solo artist.

I've read somewhere that this isn't a rare occurence around that area.

Like, unmarked Vans staking out people in the vicinity of the military base, making sure they're not up to anything fishy, I guess.

I have heard stories about people who take the turn at The Mailbox and go towards the main gate getting watched by the Cammo Dudes from distant ridges, but I was still on the main highway. Mind you, if I was stuck in the middle of the desert with nothing to do but watch tourists all day long, I'd probably go F with them too.

That's the last thing you want to do. Metal actually amplifies the signal and makes it easier for them to track you. You want an insulator; not a conductor. I recommend a plastic bicycle helmet; they provide a good compromise between effectiveness and not looking terribly out-of-place.

I hear a Kevlar blend works wonders. It also has the added benefit of making your head bulletproof!

. . . . not that I know from experience. That's just what I've heard.

I'll have to go dig up my Homemade Planets and see if there's anything worth adding next week when I get back from my trip. I've got a ton of sectors and planets in various states of completion.

Well to F with them you should have dropped some mail and a package in the drop box... Then drove off...

So here it is, hours since I've seen a sign of civilization, let alone another car. Just me, the long, straight flat road and wilderness as far as the eye can see - when I spot a white, windowless van with a tinted windshield coming up behind me in my rear view mirror. A few minutes later, it pulls up right behind me - not tailgating distance, but still pretty close. . . . and it just paces me. No reason it can't pass, no oncoming traffic at all, I'm doing the speed limit so that's not it. It just . . . follows me.

There was the time that my family and I flew into McCarran airport in Las Vegas, and when we landed and were taxiing to the gate, the pilot insisted that it was federal law that required we close the shades on the right side of the plane and look out the windows on the left side, and not at the strange planes that were painted only white and didn’t even have tail numbers on them. You know, the planes that don’t exist.

Years later, when I was working for the Defense Information Systems Agency in the group that managed the unclassified internal DISAnet and happened to be recounting this story, I discovered that I worked with a Captain in the USAF that said he had been stationed at an unspecified location in that vicinity. I never could get him to say anything more about his employment out there.

At the time, I did still have my TS/SCI clearance, but it had been at least a year or two since I had worked in a branch where that clearance was required, and I certainly didn’t have any Need To Know regarding his previous station. So, it makes sense that he wouldn’t say anything more about it.

Those are not the planes that my uncle didn't/doesn't take to work. ;)

Although in all my years going in and out of McCarran, I've never had the pilot tell us to shut the shades to prevent the view of the non-existent planes (especially since you can see them from the road going past the airport). Sounds like the pilot was having some fun with the passengers. :)

Or. . . god forbid, FFG goes off script and makes their own worlds?

That's a distressing trend that WotC established. WEG, by the sheer virtue that they had nothing to work from, had to build all these worlds and sectors and regions and people and places and ships. WotC, as near as I recall, did mostly movie and other EU locations exclusively. FFG has a mix, drawing on obscure locations and fleshing them out - but I'd love to see a Minos Cluster or a Lords of the Expanse - all new worlds, settings, people and stuff from the minds of the devs and not the edicts of the mouse.

I wish I could 'like' this 1000 times Mr Penguin.

FFG do seem to have some leeway to create new stuff (even if we possibly didn't need the Planet of Talking Budgerigar People...)

But I must admit, for a while now they seem to have focused on species from the cartoons and movies rather than the EU. Can't help but feel paranoid about that.

But, yeah... I miss the wild west era of WEG when everything was up for grabs, when it felt like ours and not theirs . #OccupyStarWars!

A new area, filled with new species (even ugly ones!), new factions and conflicts, new planets, new gear and ships and everything... New twists on tired old tropes... Sign me up for that.

Or, y'know, we could do Tattooine again. Because we totally need to see that again. Over to you, FFG.

I don't really blame FFG on the lack of original content. I think for the most part it's the fault of the fanbase. The things people are wanting the most (or at least the most vocal about wanting to get) are things that was covered in previous games and material. No one is creating 10 page long threads demanding that FFG make a planet book full of fresh new planets. They are however creating 10 pages long threads demanding Mandalorian material.

The greater bulk of what people seem to want is FFG stats on old EU/canon material. So FFG seems to be giving us that. They sprinkle in newish stuff. They explore things that were just footnotes before hand. But overall they are pretty much giving us what we demand, stats on stuff we already know about.

WEG benefited immensely from publishing at a time when there was nothing going on in the EU. FFG is publishing in an era in which everything is known. Which is the inherent problem of having so much EU/canon material.

Edit: Also people would lose their minds if new material somehow contradicted this small little known fact found on page 145 of EU book X. Creating new material for Star Wars these days is rough. I honestly do not envy the people who have to juggle trying to forge a new story direction in an environment where people take previous work as the word of God. Like it's cool that Thrawn is getting a brand new canon book but I can't imagine the backlash that will hit if that new book changes anything people previously knew about Thrawn.

As so not to clog up the thread with off-topic "what would you rather see" discussion (as opposed to clogging the thread with off topic Area 51 discussion), I'll spin this off into it's own thing . Stand by . . . .

Endless Vigil is now On the Boat

I'm not sure but I think it's ahead of schedule...

So what's the latest prediction for it's release date ? still october 20-27 ?

I'm following this thread with great interest :)
Thanks Absol

You're a bit late to the party, it's been On the Boat for about a week :P ~

Which is slightly behind schedule, but not much. Current predictions are always in the first post of the thread, but Endless Vigil is predicted to be out on 10/20 right now, although I won't rule out 10/27 just yet :) .

Glad my thread is helpful to you!

Uh, yeah O_O !

That's...going to be a problem. Like, everywhere!

Absol you are going to want to keep an eye on this http://www.presstelegram.com/business/20160901/jittery-retailers-ask-feds-to-help-resolve-cargo-backup-cause-by-collapse-of-hanjin

As if it goes too long it will delay endless vigil.

Forget Endless Vigil , it's going to delay EVERYTHING for EVERYONE! That's a huge freaking deal! :(

Yes it is. But the part relevant to this forum is Endless Vigil. And my point was to add data for Absol :)

Looks like the ships are going to be unloaded

The Failboat never fails to fail.

Well, it looks like Friends Like These is really taking its sweet time In Development ! It's been 24 days, which is more than a week longer than I was hoping. If we don't see it going to At the Printer by the 14th, my initial prediction may end up being more or less correct, and we'll have it in our hand late December.

Also, everyone cross your fingers, press your thumbs, or whatever weird hand gesture your culture does to influence good luck! Hopefully we'll finally be seeing our long-lost Edge book before the end of next week!

Oddly, late December could be ideal. A local store usually does a "buy two/get one free" sale throughout the store around that time. Since I'll have all of the published material by then, I was planning to take advantage of the sale to pick up some of the Firefly RPG books and/or some Magic cards. Friends Like These at an effective discount is a no-brainer.

Are we reasonably sure that the Spy book is the next thing for AoR?

Uh, no, actually. Current data suggests the next Age career book will be the Engineer, not the Spy. Sorry, I'd prefer the Spy, too :( . And the next Age book might not even be a career book, so...

I'm currently playing an Engineer in one of the pbp's sooooo having that book would be nice!! :)

Warrior or Consular book for me please, my group has both so either would be good as the next sourcebook in general.
