Trends, Statistics, and Predictions!

By Absol197, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

While not at all unexpected, I did just want to note that this week's major Upcoming update has already happened, and we've seen no advancement.

Like I said, not unexpected at all. We should start looking for changes around February 1. The interesting thing will be whether all the books change status at once, or if only some of them will, or only one at a time...

I liked this post so you'd have a clean 4000 likes. Also so I can say it was me.

Aww, thanks, Shlam :) . And to try and pay you back, I think the highest-probability day for the Warrior book to be announced this month is tomorrow. Obviously I can't guarantee it, because FFG, but it is the highest-probability day.

I've been refreshing that news page. There has been a lot of Star Wars stuff appearing, some of them had lightsabers and had me excited till I saw the game featured. Let's hope you are right Prophet.

Pro-tip: don't look for lightsabers, look for the...I'm gonna call 'em "banners" on the top and bottom of the article image. The black ones with the gold trim on the inside. It's the background that surrounds the images on the front of all F&D books. Near every announcement article for the Star Wars RPG has had those banners, so they're the thing to look for.

Oh I know It's just the first thing you notice is the Lightsaber not the Banner, Unless the Banner is Angry and Green.

That's his secret...he's always angry.

That would be a very welcome bright spot at the end of a very crummy week.

*fingers crossed*

Yeah doubt it is yet, but they correctly believe that it has the potential to make more money and are devoting the creative resources to to Genesys and L5R. This has to take away from SWRPG creativity. Just trying to be realistic and explain the lack of announcement of new books. I don't believe that there is anything to worry about. We will still get SWRPG books, the pace is just slowing down, it now has to compete with two other lines for developers.

On the other hand SWRPG is ranking in top five RPGs fairly consistently at least on roll20.

The pace slowed down because they had a shipping problem and had to have books reprinted. They announced stuff early on in this gap. but i suspect they havent made new announcements because they are waiting for the supply chain to catch back up.

I don't think Genesys and L5R are competing much with Star Wars for resources. Remember that FFG was publishing a wide array of 40K RPG products until they split with GW last year. In the last few years, they also were devoting staff to the End of the World books, which have also wrapped up. I expect the conclusion of those lines left them with plenty of RPG bandwidth.

Separately, while the lack of licensing fees potentially makes the profit margin on Genesys higher than Star Wars, I have no doubt that the volume on Star Wars easily makes up the difference. At least around here, I haven't actually seen anyone playing Genesys, though that may change with the release of more material.

I would expect it to become the red headed stepchild

I think that boat sailed years ago (and I don't mean the Failboat that brought us Ghosts of Dathomir either!)

Star Wars is obviously a money-spinner for FFG, but we are all the way back behind X-Wing, Imperial Assault, the Card Game, Armada, and now Legion and 'Destiny' (random lootboxes for kids? Srsly, FFG??? Honestly, I think it would be healthier to just sell bags of crack cocaine with the Star Wars logo on them at this point... :( )

And now Genysis (silly name!) is the new sexy thing. Let's be honest, tabletop RPGs are a niche hobby, played mostly by grumpy old people like me.

Even by our niche standards however, 2017 sucked Space Donkeys. I guess 2018 should therefore prove better, seeing as how we should get the stuff we should have got last year... But at this rate, I'll believe it when I see it.

(And I dunno who does the previews for the RPG, but they are either a) completely awful, b) give very, very little away, or c) both. Or they're by Bryan Young, which is much, much worse...)

Interestingly, 'No Disintegrations' is still listed as having a release date of 'January 1st 3000'. 982 years is bad even by the low standards of the Failboat. And even worse, probably throws Absol's stats out :(

In defense of the name I think it’s quite clever. Genesys is perhaps an abbreviation of Generic System, but also, of course, means the origin point for something new.

My feelings on the subject also, but the space donkeys were pretty kick ***. They busted down walls. :D

Ah, never actually realised it was a kind of portmanteau.

Still doesn't really grab me though, even if it's a bit clever.

I guess at least it has a name, which is something our beloved SW game never really got :(

Sorry, Shlam :( . If we don't get it by Tuesday, it'll be until next month, which is, by all metrics, the longest we've had to wait between announcements. And when outliers happen, they're impossible to predict :( .

I'm sorry I've failed you...

Ah maybe FFG is just trying to mess with your numbers... or maybe they are waiting till all four backlogged books are shipping or even in stores.

Sorry Shlam, hopefully its sooner rather than later.

However outliers do occur so just like your mystic book appearing on the 22nd of September. I wouldn't throw away the latter part of the month because your pattern doesn't suggest the latter half being likely. I have hope of it appearing anywhere between here and the 31st.

You spelled GENESYS wrong.

Hey y'all! While we're waiting for any new information about our wayward books, I wanted to let you guys know that I'm working on something new and mathsey that I hope will be helpful to you all! Look for a new thread by me in the Force & Destiny forum, probably by the end of the week (if I can get my factorials to behave like I expect they should, at least)!

Why the Force and Destiny forum?

Probably because it is F&D related.
