But we got a new book. Technically 2. Just no new announcements. But then last year they made a couple announcements right after Gencon. So maybe we will get on this or next week.
Trends, Statistics, and Predictions!
Patience is a virtue one of which I'm severely lacking. Just announce the Edge Book already!
That's a very good point, and an angle I hadn't considered. My viewpoint was too narrow.
My rant was mostly because I was having a bad week and it was topped off by both no new book and me getting another prediction wrong, so I kind of blew up a little. But things are a bit better now, so hopefully I can cool the kriff off !
I get being frustrated but I think paying too close of attention to these things and trying to make predictions and descern patterns just creates unneeded stress and tension, not just for you but on the forum in general. But if we look at things this game is pretty **** healthy. 3 to 4 years into the life of Star Wars under WotC and we did not have near this level of quality in products. I'm pretty sure that FFG has WotC beat on number of books produced for their individual editions (not going to comment on WEG since I didn't play back in those days). And the quality is hands down better.
The game is in good hands with FFG. It may be a slow trickle of announcements (but again look at the sheer amount of product it's producing) but we know more is coming to us. We just have to be patient and should probably understand that the RPG is likely the least money making aspect of this venture and as such likely draws the short end of the stick when it comes to priorities. It sucks ..... but that's the reality of a business. Cash cows get priority and FFG's card and mini's business has always taken priority over it's RPG's.
Nature of the beast.

Don't tell her that! If she believes you, she'll stop posting that delicious data. And I need the data!
Hmm...you know, you're making a lot of sense, Kael...
Absol197,
You work is perfect.
I go to this post here before going to the "upcoming" tab.
You can't get it perfectly right, since there are a lot of unknowns, but who has better predictions than you? No one, so we turn to you.

Well, that is high praise. I hardly think me or my work is perfect, but I...

...huh. Guess I can't argue with Rousing Oratory of that magnitude.

Ugh. Unlike my post. Those movies were DREADFUL.
Done. Never let it be said I give someone praise they don't want !

Fantastic. If I wanted praise I wouldn't have gotten married.

Just a random observation, but please tell me I'm not the only one to notice this:
Commodore = Leader-type Engineer
Figurehead = Leader-type Diplomat
Instructor = Leader-type Commander
Squadron Leader = Leader-type Ace
Strategist = Leader-type Spy
Tactician = Leader-type Solder
Every single Commander spec is basically a spec from one of the other AoR careers that is then given a little make over for someone who's in charge. Sure, the Strategist/Spy connection might not be perfect, but the rest? Spot on.
You can see the same thing in the careers.
Edge has civilian versions of careers. Age has military versions. F&D force using versions.

There's nothing wrong with data, I'm a researcher I deal with data all day. But one thing I learned early on in researching is that you have to keep some distance and perspective on the data you're examining. If you get too close to it all you're going to do is create unneeded stress and problems which is something I've observed (not only in this thread but others on the forums). Ultimately the release of information is dictated more by the flow of money than anything else. Sure there are patterns but without insider knowledge you're not really looking at the whole picture and that's gonna drive you nuts when things don't go as predicted.
But when someone is as they put it "blew up a little" over not getting a prediction about a game that is likely the lowest priority on the Star Wars list for FFG then it's clear that space and distance needs to be taken and things need to be put back into perspective. People shouldn't blow up over no announcement or a failed prediction when we have had constant reassurance from authors of the books that more material is on the way. Even if no one can say what it is or when we'll be notified we have been told time and time again that things are in the works.
So yeah data is cool and all, but given the scale of what FFG is doing I don't expect them to hold true to much of anything other than which product line is making them the most money and therefore gets the most attention in regards to product updates and announcements.

I agree. I've assumed that most of the blow-ups here have been exaggerated for entertainment, but if anyone's getting genuinely bent out of shape due to wrong predictions it's a good idea to take a step back, breathe deeply, and remember how much product we already have in our hands.

This actually makes sense, as the Commander career path is that of a back up, really. The Squadron Leader needs to know some piloting tricks to fly with their squadron and the Tactician needs basic field craft and soldiering skills to be viable in the field and they split the tree with leadership skills to help their team recover from fear or benefit better from a good skill.
There's a new AoR Adventure Module been announced.
I have no idea if this is what was predicted at all.
No, it certainly was not predicted! I don't mind of course, and I was just updating my charts before I popped over here and shot my mouth off about it.
For those of you who are with me in tracking product numbers, this is the "Mystery Book" from SWA041, an adventure as I thought. So now we have nothing unknown in the current range of SWA products.
Very rough starting estimate is that Friends Like These will be released on December 29, although as always that'll get moved closer once we get additional data.
We're still 256+ days between Edge announcements and 144+ days between the release of Special Modifications and a new Edge book. Why the incredibly long delay, I have no new theories. Maybe we'll get a record-breaker and get another announcement today or tomorrow? If we don't, we'll be waiting two more weeks at minimum.
I'm also going to move the product code lists to the first post, too, so people can find them easier.

I don't know if I've said this before, but it bears repeating anyway: I love your work.
Aww *blush*
Like I said, I do try my best!
EDIT: Okay, new prediction for Friends Like These is up in the first post, as well as the Product Codes, also updated with FLT and the Universal "SWR" products, just so people know I haven't missed them .
Edited by Absol197I direct my question at our resident Seer, but more than Absol197 are welcomed to comment, too.
Regarding predictions: Is there enough information available to make educated guesses about the remaining species to stat-up in an official FFG line?
For example, we get another new species (Mandalorian, Human) in a newly-announced adventure. We got a new species from Force and Destiny's first published adventure, too. However, neither Beyond the Rim nor Jewel of Yavin introduced any new species for players. Assault at Arda I didn't give us any new species crunch, either. If we expect at least one more F+D themed adventure, should we expect a new species?
Also, we can predict how each career will have an accompanying sourcebook. Traditionally, this means 3-4 new species, too. This means that of the wanted X# of species we hope to see (i.e.: ewok, jawa, etc.), there are a (probably) finite number of books in which to put them.
Based on what we see from:
Career Sourcebooks (3-4 species),
Sectors (3-4 species),
Adventures (one or none species),
Something else published (?? species),
...how many new species might we see? I'm not making a casting call here, just looking for a ballpark number. I hope we might learn how, if we want Species A, B, C, D, E, and F, but there's only two more books projected, which of those might make the cut?
With the new movies, talk of TV shows, cartoons, and new 'official' novels, I wouldn't try and put a # on the upper limit. There are plenty of additional content delivery options FFG has that can have additional races attached to them.
I think I've mentioned it before, but species is my Achilles' heel with this game. My knowledge on the subject is very shallow.
Now, we can make guesstimates, of course, and to try and help you out I'll do my best:
We have six career books left, which have three (unique*) species per book: +18;
Assuming FFG is attempting to be make the lines even, we have five Region books, which average 3.5 species per book: +17.5;
We also have three additional adventures, averaging 0.33 species per book: +1.
Now, so far ~25% of species have been repeats, so out of our 36-37 upcoming species that we can expect, we should guess that 9.13 would be repeats.
So, just from the standard book types, we should expect 27-28 (27.37) new unique* species at the very least. Which, to be honest, is a LOT. Trust me, as an amateur game designer, balancing that many new species amongst the near a hundred we already have...if they manage to do it well, I'll give FFG mad props.
However, that may not actually be the upper limit. Consider my work with the product codes: Edge has three products that come after the Bounty Hunter book that we have no idea what they are. I have a suspicion that we might see the oft-requested compilation books in those slots. And if I'm right, to make sure that there's more of an incentive to buy them, there's a real possibility that the species compilation would likely include several new species. If that's the case, there is literally no way to predict how many that would be. If we want to guess, I'll say it's +10, possibly per game line (with potential overlap here, too).
So based on the information we have, I'm saying that we could legitimately see another fifty species. Now, do I think this is likely? No, I don't. But it's possible. But the conservative answer, based only on confirmed product types, is around another 30 new species.
* By "unique" species, I mean that sub-species, like those of the Mustafarians, Niktos, and Aqualish, don't count as additional species. Despite their extreme differences, I count the Elom and Elomin as sub-species here, at least until I get Forged in Battle and can take a closer look at them.
EDIT: I enjoyed being called a "Seer" waaay too much . I'm not obsessed with Mystics. No, not at all !
EDIT 2: I completely forgot that we don't have the species from Endless Vigil yet, so adding that in, it gives us 29.63 species expected.
Edited by Absol197Right now we have 65 official species.
The coming career books will give us 25 - 27 new species. If there is three coming regional books we might get 12 more species. So in total we might get 100 official species.
A typical species write-up including a picture is one page. So a 160 page species compilation book would give us an additional 50 species.
