When to call a judge?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

Certainly should have involved a judge if only for the reason that you had placed your template and committed to the decloak. Once the template or token touches the mat you have committed to that action. The bump interfered with your declared action whether you voiced it or not as indicated by the template.

I have decided to call a judge when ever i want. I have trusted my opponent with my fly casual attitude to often and been dicked over

What if he really truly believed that by setting his hand on the table and letting the evades slide onto the playmat he was actually doing us a favour by not disturbing the ships with the dice?

How do you deal with shady play and what are some ways to recognize it if you are unfamiliar?

If there's one thing that really bites me at a tournament; it's when people do not roll dice properly. I make the effort to shake them in my hand before rolling and make sure it truly is a random roll but I've seen people do all sorts of weird things (in other games too). I'm not too sure why it bites me so much but it does.

In all honesty; it's very difficult to tell if these sorts of things really are shady or genuine mistakes. I usually just let it slide and then do my best to crush them with no mercy. For me; cheating in a game is pointless as it defeats the object of the game. To win by skill and a bit of luck. So I personally find it difficult to wrap my head around the mentality of cheating and tend to give people the benefit of the doubt; maybe more so than I should at times but I don't like to throw around accusations either. I guess the moral of the story is call a TO as son as you feel there is an issue but be discreet, defer tot he TO's ruling and just try to enjoy it and crush your enemies :)

What bothers me more than improper die rolling technique is not using a dice tray, dice cup, or dice tower and instead rolling your dice into the play area.

You roll your dice into the tray like a human being, not into asteroids or ships like a FILTHY ANIMAL.

Wow, I have yet to play a game with an actual human being then.

It could have been an accident, but you could have pointed out that Wampa was not put back in the same spot. So, it's kind of a missed opportunity on your part. However, it's a casual tournament and you probably did the right thing just brushing it off. Especially if your sense was that he did it on purpose. In my experience, it's not worth getting upset in casual tourneys. Save it for the d-bags in the upper tier tourneys as you'll find lots of those then.

I hate it when those faeces ridden rhinos start rolling dice at my ships :P

if its going to be a tight move i always signal my opponent to help with the move by watching closely and or holding the template while i move the ship. then if its too close to call i let my opponent decide. Now why your opponent was fiddling with HIS ships during YOUR turn is beyond me...

Let me be clear and state that I was making a joke before someone pretends to be offended and reports me like someone did when I insulted their bad taste chrome banana.

You have to obey the hugbox, if someone insults your taste in spaceships you have the right to pretend to be offended and get them suspended.

This was my feelings too. I missed the opportunity to correct his "mistake" and brushed it off for the moment. Then he started rolling dice all shady and by the end of the match I had to say something.

Though I will point out however, that this casual tournament came on the heels of Vancouver Regionals. An event at which everyone I met was a world class player and not a single table had need for a judge. It was only on day two during the casual event that people got salty. Just the casual atmosphere I guess, people more willing to let things slide. It seems like fly casual was more of an excuse to push the rules than any actual positive mantra. I only heard the term once all day at the very end of the events and I had a good laugh at that then.

On a side note. I got way more prizes than the dweeb who cheated! They had a big pile of awesome stuff to give away and they called people out in order of rank and you'd get to pick one thing. Well I saw my opponent go up and get a prize, he scored waaay better than I did (go figure) so he prolly got something cool. But since there were only so many of us and so many prizes we all got second and third picks! But not Mr. Nudge. He nabbed his crappy tokens and vamoosed. I stuck around til the very end and scored two C-3P0's and another VI, plus cloak tokens! And I got to talk paint with the TO, so...

... Whatever, I win on all accounts!

In the regionals here, I accidentally nudged an asteroid while my opponent was moving his Corran Horn right onto it. He complained and said that his Corran would have missed the asteroid had I not nudged it. I was sure he would still land on it by quite a margin, but I allowed him to place the asteroid where he thought it should be. It was, after all, my mistake.
