Good Ol' Dodgin' Dameron

By FourteenXWP, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Recently I've been enamoured by a Poe build that has been making its rounds at my LGS.

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33 + 7)

Push the Limit (3)

R2 Astromech (1)

Vectored Thusters (2)

Black One (1)

Playing Poe like a beefier Interceptor really intrigues me. Poe clocks in at 40 points, a really hefty price for any ship.

Push the Limit is pretty much mandatory for arc dodgers unless you're Darth Vader. The cost of a stress is offset by the improved dial given by R2 Astromech. Since he can dodge arcs, regen is no longer necessary for him. Vectored Thrusters now gives Poe what I would have liked to be on the T-70 from day 1, but unfortunately gives up our Autothrusters slot. Fortunately for us, Poe has 6 health to spend on turrets, and even without Autothrusters, his pilot ability gives him amazing offensive and defensive capability. Black One really takes the cake for me here. With ordinance becoming more popular and Omega Leader in virtually all Palp Aces lists nowadays, target locks are quite important in today's meta.

I was a really big fan of Nathan Eide's AXE list, so I decided to include this Poe in a modified version of it.

Corran Horn (35 + 13)

Push the Limit (3)

Fire Control System (2)

R2-D2 (4)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

I've toyed around with the idea of 4x Prototype Pilot with Chardaan Refit, but sadly that list doesn't have the firepower that the Imperials have since there is no Rebel version of Howlrunner that fits in the list. If it were feasible to have 4 blockers and have the list be effective, this might be good.

A Paul Heaver inspired list might look something like this:

Grey Squadron Pilot (20 + 8)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

R3-A2 (2)

BTL-A4 (0)

Green Squadron Pilot (19 - 2)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Prototype Pilot (17 - 2)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

I'm curious to see what the rest of the community has come up with for a new age Poe Dameron.

I think with Vector Thruster with Black One will change the way Poe is played. BB8 is viable again. I hadn't thought of using the R2 Astro to clear PTL stress that's brilliant. I'm excited for this release.

Could throw the newly released Sensor Cluster in the mix for 2 more points on Poe. Have to play around a little more with the points (maybe drop back to PS8) but allows Poe a lot better evasion. Could be a force to be reckoned with, especially regen Poe with that kind of evasion. Just nasty.
