Can I BB-8 off an obstacle?

By MacchuWA, in X-Wing Rules Questions

This came up in a game a few weeks back, and it's been bugging me. My T-65 with BB-8 was on a rock. I wanted to reveal a green, BB-8 off the rock, then move. My opponent predicted what I was going to do, and pre-emptively told me it was against the rules.

I didn't query the point, and played on, but thinking about it afterwards I just can't see why it would be against the rules. The template wouldn't have crossed over the rock, the action isn't happening in the action phase, and unless it's been specified by a FAQ somewhere, I don't get it.

Do what's the story here?

FAQ Page 18:

Q:

Can a ship that is overlapping an asteroid perform free actions?

A:

Yes.

You got shafted!

Hi MacchuWA on page 18 of the most recent FAQ it says:

Q: Can a ship that is overlapping an asteroid perform free
actions?

A: Yes.

Since BB-8 is a free action from a green maneuver, I think you can.

The only thing that would stop you, was if you were stressed when you were on the rock, as you haven't performed the green maneuver yet to clear the stress.

If you weren't stressed, then you could indeed barrel roll off the rock.

Also, as you said, the 1-straight template must not overlap the obstacle. So you definitely should have been able to do your roll.

Your opponent was wrong.

Long as you werent completely on the rock so the barrelroll touched it and you werent stressed, its totally legal.

Rocks only skip your action step of activation. They have literally no impact elsewise in regards to your action. Debris afaik dont even do that much but youre stressed so blarg on that lol.
