What would you Stele?

By Darth evil, in X-Wing

Which version of Maarek Stele in you opinions is better, the Tie Advanced for 27 points or the Tie Defender at 35 points ?

Tie Defender - because Tie Defender!

Defender without question.

imo neither are particularly great, if only because the defender has the far more badass vessery

but the Defender is a boss monster of a ship, so Defender

I'd Steele the Declaration of Independence.

Agreed, if for some reason you lost your Vessery card and can't find one anywhere to borrow then Defender Stele is the better option.

This Cult of Vessery never ceases to amuse me. He can only play his games properly if your opponent is either low PS or low IQ. Better yet, both! :P

For Stele I found you'll get a lot more mileage out of the Defender as it both lives longer and hits harder.

i've never quite understood it either, ppl always complain about abilities which have hard or unique triggers and Vesseries requires an entire other ship with a TL.

Whisper, Inquisitor, Omega Leader, another Defender, the PalpShuttle. It's not like the Imperials are lacking for quality spotters.

TIE/Adv version synergizes perfectly with his pilot ability and Advanced Targeting Computer - and with more points to use somewhere else. I've pulled 3 crits in one round against a Large ship and it was totally worth it. He can draw fire, but has that nice Evade in his Action Bar.

Stele is neat in the Advanced but I don't think there's much use for any of them ecept Vader in high level play.

In the Defender he's basically just a pilot skill number for the most part, but he's good value for that. His pilot ability is a bonus, but not the reason to play him.

Kind of wish they could have given him a different ability actually, something that fit the Defender a little better. Sadly the same pilot in the same faction gets the same ability and PS seems to be the rule so far.

Juke x7 Stele in a defender is the way to go.

Defender version of course!! With Vessery as wingman with the tractor beam :D :D .

TIE advanced has greater synergy with his ability, TIE defender is probably better value.

Maarek x1's problem is that he'll always be two points from Vader. This is a problem suffered by the TIE advanceds as a whole: they need to be something Vader isn't. Colzet and Alozen are cheap and Zertik is a control piece but the two closest to Vader (Maarek and Juno) have a hard time justifying themselves over him. Juno can go the AC Juke route and be a nice pocket ace in the vein of the Inquisitor but Maarek needs to go ATC, and making ATC shine is very much Vader's turf.

TIE/Adv version synergizes perfectly with his pilot ability and Advanced Targeting Computer - and with more points to use somewhere else.

Which Maarek loadout were you thinking? PTL TIE/x1 ATC Maarek in the TIE/x1 is 32, Juke Maarek in the TIE/x1 is 35.

TIE Adv gets a crit every time he attacks but hes plagued by an insanely terrible ship. The defender is so superior its comical, though now he has to actually roll his crits. You could marksman or Calculation for it but then you gots no juke :P

The TIE advanced post Raider isn't a bad ship at all. The problem is the Vader is so good that the others all pale somewhat in comparison.

I like X1 w/ ATC for the critical hit. He's also great to pair with Col. Vessery as Stele wants to keep his TL on someone.

This. When he's invariably paired with the inquisitor, then his ability is super good.

The only reason to take the non-Vessery/Ryad/generic Defenders is for PS and nothing else. You can't really count on their abilities activating so just treat them as a bonus.

In the 2016 SC mr.stele on a Tie Advanced with ATC,Crackshot and AdvHomingMissiles took me to the final table.

I would never take him on a defender because you need to invest in an expensive way to trigger his abbility every turn, ala D title + Marksmanship or Gloomshuttle.

thats another 25-30 point ship, kinda high for a requirement

Uh, it's not like the ship is just waffling around with its thumb up its bum just so vess can reroll

Those ships are performing at peak efficiency AND so is Vess, cause he's along for the ride

Meanwhile Steele is crutching on rng ever see his ability

As noted, Stele is entirely a PS number in most builds.

now the titles are here .... defender all the way

As stele never flew an advanced it's got to be the defender.
