Titled TIE/sf => proof of 0-pt astromech coming?

By xanderf, in X-Wing

...vs...

red-squadron-pilot.png

...you've got the same forward attack on the TIE/sf, with the ability to split its attack. Same agility. Same hull. Similar actions (TIE/sf adds a barrel roll), and the TIE/sf has one more shield. Same cost! The X-Wing does have a slight PS advantage, here, although the TIE/sf has a better dial (the hard-3 is a red maneuver vs white on the X-Wing, but the /sf gets a green forward-3 as well as the 3-sloops both directions and hard-1 turns...red, sure, but the X-Wing doesn't have them at all)

So the titled TIE/sf is flat-out better than the X-Wing in every way, at the same price. Integrated Astromech effectively gives the X-Wing enough of a buff to put it equal to the TIE/sf in damage resistance (it's basically a free shield, after all), although the TIE/sf retains the primary weapon advantage (aft arc/split fire), better dial, and better actions. Oh, and IA still only works if you pay for an astromech to pair with it!

Don't think we've before had quite so direct a comparison to the T-65 showing its current sad state. Looking at the above combos, you could basically give it an astromech that added the barrel roll action and s-loops and hard-1 turns...turning the hard-3s red and losing 1 PS in exchange...and price it at 0 points to merely be making the T-65 identical to the TIE/sf.

Good thing there's two copies of a generic astromech coming in the ARC-170 expansion that could provide a boost!

Oh... wait...

No.

Being better than an x-wing isn't that hard currently is it.

You can make a similar comparison between an ORS/WSF and a Contracted Scout. Power creep everybody. It's a thing.

But seriously, everyone and their mom knows the X-wing will get a revisit. Just a matter of time.

Yeah we already got a 0 point astro

They just made it 2 points for no **** reason

The Sensor Cluster could be interesting for the T-70.

Power creep occurs when a release is above the power curve, not when a new option is better than an old terrible one.

If there's ever a zero point astromech, it will do almost nothing. Y-Wings don't need the help, X-Wings will just use it as a shield upgrade, and it's not going to be something that you'll want to use in place of R2-D2 on Aces.

"Power creep", "learning from past mistakes so they don't deliberately release a new ship that we already know for a fact is hopelessly overcosted", y'know. One or the other.

Like, say, the generic R3 Astromech coming with the ARC-170, yeah?

Y-Wing generics actually could use the help, aside from those running TLTs, and R3 has no useful synergy with the TLT. Generic E-Wings and generic X-Wings definitely badly need the help (but more than R3 brings to the table, IMHO - still, it'd be a start).

Y-wing need more named pilots for sure but the generics Arnt in a terrible place.

The ORS and WSF were far below the power curve. The Scout is arguably power creep, but the relevant comparison would be to viable ships.

The power creep comment was tongue in cheek you guys. Notice I said "But seriously" immediately after that. :P

Sorry dude. Preview Day brings out all the tinfoil-hattery, it must have thrown off my targetting computer. :D

It wont be a 0 cost astromech.

It will be an Ewing and Xwing only (inc. T70) Title that reduces the cost of non-unique astromechs by 2.

It lets them keep astro prices up to keep the Ywing from becoming more absurd, but makes them usable on the less used craft.

Seen many y wings lately?

Thread winner.

0 Pt Astromech that involves the Ewing and Xwing only without buffing the Ywing?

" When your opponent is within your firing arc at range 1-2, add one (eyeball) result to your defense result, then receive one stress token"

Eh? Not too bad.

That feels a bit unlikely, unless there is some kind of cap on how high a PS or point cost or something gets to use it.

The X-Wing 'aces' aren't really in that bad a place, after all. And Corran is totally solid where he's at. It's the generics that are in such an awful spot.

apart from r3, an easy candidate for a 0 point astromech is simply an upgrade slot swap

ala

Bomb-loadout.png

Slave_I.png

so we could have

R3-D7

add an EPT if you don't already have one

(aka r2-d6 done correctly)

or

"Mildly Smart Person"

add a BOMB slot to your upgrade bar

in contrast with "Genius" over in scum

Those aces are why it wouldnt apply to unique astromechs. Each of those aces rely on R2D2, R5P9, BB8, Stressbot, or R4D6. the only ace who uses generic astromech, to my knowlege, is Tarn Mison, and at PS3 he isnt much of an ace.

im willing to bet FFG hasnt done anything to them yet because its the #1 signature ship of Starwars. Say xwing to random people and they probably know what it is (the ship) but if you say TIE Fighter or Millennium Falcon youre bound to find a few more people that have no clue what you are talking about. Not many but more nontheless.

Theyre probably trying to find a fix that either 1) wouldnt be "wtf is this?" response worthy or 2) makes ALL REBEL LISTS 3-4 Xwing lists and nothing else because face it even if it is the iconic ship of Starwars that would get old QUICK

ThE fix will be in Rogue One. I can feel it.

It will be a retro fit or model type title ala Defender.

Maybe we need a -2 astromech. Would help generic Ewings, Xwings, and T-70's. Wouldnt help out Poe as he needs his regen droid, same as Corran. Maybe put a stipulation like primary weapon of 3 or greater, so Ywings cant use it, or agility of 2 or greater.

Poe with -2 point astro and sensor cluster, IA and predator. 36 points. Lovely.
