Cloacking and scum help...

By EarthwormBen, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been wanting to use the scum cloaking device in a more coherent list, but I keep struggling. I make a list that has an amazing ship in that just gets ignored or I make a list with a ship that it just seems over costed to put on.

So far I've only had luck with a star viper and 2 y wings but it doesn't seem to work competively....

Has anyone had any luck with this upgrade or does it just not work yet?

It just doesn't work very well at all IME. The lack of reliability just kills it.

I was really hoping this could of been overlooked

I have used it with Great succes on Palop. Off course you can not play it like a Phantom but it is Great to have 4greens when enemy Ship gets to close.

How do you mean?

Well kind of how you also have to overlook things like how predator is amazing, it's only half effective against an ace and in many cases lone Wolf is just as good a buy

As in people would not have tried it.

nah

People try everything, frequently before it's even out.

I've also seen cloak on plenty of Scum ships used as a movement tool rather than cloak. The few times I've seen Talonbane across the table from me, he typically has the Cloaking Device on him and they usually use it to try to get to Range 1 faster and easier. An Engine Upgrade, Cloaking Device Talonbane can cover a ridiculous amount of the map to be knocking at your door.

I've used it on xizor, and will use it on Guri when I use her. I've had games where it crapped out on first use and had games where I could use it for three turns.

For two points in a slot I usually leave open on a starviper, I think it's a good add. I don't try flying like it's a phantom. I only activate on turns when I dangle the viper and need 5 green dice.

I've also used it as a mobility tool. Being able to barrel roll 2, then move and take an action, is pretty hoss. Changes the dynamic of how you fly.

Trying to use it like the phantom will give you great movement, but if it's ashtray crashed on that one turn when you really needed it... Well...
