Tried out this list and didn't so so well, but I fear my flying was the primary culprit.

C. Vessery - Tie/D, Ion Cannon (38)

C. Ryad - Tie/x7, Juke, Twin ion Engine MkII (35)

C. Jonus - Tie Shuttle, Systems Officer, Weapons Engineer. (27)

The idea was to feed vessery and Ryad locks while they do their stuff.

Any thoughts on how best to fly it and maximise the synergy, or what to change up to make it better would be much appreciated.

Fleet Officer > Weapons Engineer for this purpose. Getting double focus on Vessery for his ion shot and primary is huge.

and yeah, wep engineer is jank. Support in general is jank, but at least fleet officer helps

I always tool mine with Fleet Officer and Systems Officer, though I usually run Tomax Bren with Crack Shot just so he can stand up for himself in a fight if need be. Doesn't really fit within the confines of your list but it's fun all the same.

As much as I like the idea of the good captain, if you aren't going to fit Tomax in, you should probably drop it to a basic Scimitar Pilot. With title, Systems and Fleet Officers, he clocks in at 21 points. Which frees up a lot for the other two. I would swap PTL onto Ryad, and you can fit Marksmanship on Vessery at that point.

You lose the 3C mantra, but you could just spell Scimitar as Cimitar and keep it if you want.

Interesting. Although, my thoughts were along the line that the Captain is PS6, so can move before and paint target locks for Vessery, and then help out with the ion shot.

Marksmanship sounds pretty good on Vess in this build though, and PtL on Ryad, could more than make up for it. Hmm.
