Mon Karren vs. Admonition

By itzSteve, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

If a mc30 can only use one defensive token due to Mon Karren, does Admonition count as that single use? Can they use either the evade or redirect as the single use and then trigger the Admonition title?

Mon Karren - Cannot "Spend" more than 1 token

Admontion effect is not spending a token. Its discarding.

So Admo wins in this case.

But spending an exhausted token is also discarding. Aren't they the same?

If you "spend" an exhausted token, you must additionally discard it. Its a result of spending it, not part of spending itself.

The other thing to see is that you can Admo a defense token which you spent which wouldnt be allowed if Admo counted as spending, as you can only spend 1 token of each type per attack.

Spending something twice counts as discarding but that doesn't mean that discarding automatically counts as spending.

Cats have 4 legs. My dog has 4 legs. Therefore.....

You jest, but thats not a dog you have there sir.

But the guy in the pet shop said so.

OK it had been involved in an accident and the weld lines were a bit ropy but it only had 30,000 miles on the clock.

OK..Last argument on this...Admonition happens during the spend defensive token step, so why do the rules not apply here? Because it is a title card?

It is the wording that means Mon Karren does not affect the Admo effect. Admo is not spending a token, Mon Karren only stops the spending of defense tokens. Admo happens during the spend defence token step, but is not spending a defense token.

Of Admonition was a spend ability you would not be able to use it to spend an evade after already spending the evade to reroll a die.

Spend is different than discard.

To spend you have to flip or discard something, when you discard it is automatically gone.

Also Admonition can discard a defence token that was targeted by an accuracy and so could not be spent.

Two different mechanics (spend vs discard) can result in same net effect (defense token discarded). They are not the same mechanics and Mon Karren only effects one.
