The downside for Imperials to all the new spoilers this weekend

By xanderf, in X-Wing

That's another of the reason i never like legends. People that write these stories leap on every detail of 3 2 hour fils and desperately try and work their own thing in.

3 seperate stories about what happened on Ord Mandel or whatever.

The idea about B wings and A wings being created after ANH is purely cos they didn't appear in that film? So they think it's a cool idea to write about how they were made, but there's juts no reason to assume that they didn't exist just because they never used them in the single rebels in space scene in the whole film.

Sure, let's not use the things that can get it done better.

Who needs those stupid, fast Ceptors, let's just swarm it all! Who needs those dumb B-wings, let's use the rusty-old Y-wings!

There's only one B-Wing, and it's a prototype. They'd prefer a fleet of Ys for sure.

I get people need reasons to hate rebels, but lets cool our jets a little shall we?

Shaddup you, and be happy we get three colors... you ungrateful Imps!!!

I take it you know absolutely nothing about logistics.

You use what you've got.

And protection of the most vital starbase is definitely not worthy of having anything new shiny and expensive.

While an all-out attack should definitely not include any of those A-wings that are so OP that even orange-based SSD is not safe from them

Lemme just ask George Lucas to add some A's and B's in the special special edition.

Always use the right tool for the job. I'm not sure A-wings would have been any good for the trench run and they just may not have had any on Yavin, all stationed on on the flotilla.

Given that the pattern of attack looked to be heading for the trench it's possible that they decided to deploy Tie /ln instead of Ints becasue they would have had trouble in the trenches at their speed.

That's a flimsy excuse obviously maybe the death star was less of a priority to have it's fighters upgraded becasue they didn't see fighters as a threat to the station, and prioritised more fragile but key installations?

Given the Death Star was being built 20 years earlier it's likely they had a lot of Tie /lns there already and they didn't see the need to swap them out.

There's all sorts of reasons why they weren't used in this 1 single fight. And it is just one fight. Canon they existed before but it's really not that bad.

Remember, they didn't even launch fighters when they saw the rebels coming - it was only after they analysed their attack patterns.

Exactly, that's why I said it.

I'm a bit vagueish on the details from Lost Stars, but wasn't there at least one Star Destroyer docked at the time?

"The Empire doesn't consider a small one-man fighter to be any threat, otherwise they'd have a tighter defence."

What good is an A-wing in a bombing run? It starts out as a small fighter which is later stripped down for speed. As for the Executor, it wasn't taken down single-handedly by an A-wing. An A-wing flew into its command bridge after its shields were knocked out while under heavy point blank bombardment by most of the Rebel fleet.

Or at this point the TIE interceptor is only just starting to be rolled out. Takes a long time to replace a galaxy's worth of TIE fighters. They never finish in the new canon.

That's exactly what I meant. It's got to be an enormous task to swap out fighters. Provided they even did want to replace all their tie's which seems unlikely.

Interceptors are only being used by Thrawn, it seems. I guess Vader prefered the older fighters and his custom advanced, or Tarkin never gave him the authority to purchase squints. Or Thrawn jealously kept the interceptor from the rest of the fleet for years. Who knows.

The interceptor always bothered me. If it was possible to give a Fighter 3 times the firepower (it still had the chin guns when the wing guns were added) AND make it faster by making its wings smaller and pointy then why did it take 3 movies to do so? Why were they not noticeably more effective at Endor? Why is it just a Fighter with different wings? It's almost like they wanted to save Kenner some money while designing the 'new' ships. The rebels got two new designs in ROTJ, both unique and very cool looking, but the imperials got an updated TIE fighter that didn't incorporate any of the advances that Vader's TIE had other than turning the wings around and cutting them into wedgies.

*Headcanon* Maybe Vader, being an Ace pilot himself, prefered the Adv X1, and was campaigning for it's use. Kinda like a celebrity endorsment. (light) Shields, hyper, prob more power with that big back end on the X1. He prob would have prefered that the the interceptors, who still relied on speed and maunver to survive. The Adv X1 seems closer to the old Jedi fighter from III.

They're dropping a new Star Wars anthology film every other year, in between the Skywalker-focused films. I'm sure they'll get back to the ESB/RotJ era at some point.

And now X-wing suffers the Curse of TIE. with no real hope of dishing out anything but MOAR TIEs

Probably Ord Mantell

But... I like the grey?

Some sources say "or" - it can have the two chin guns or the 4 wing guns. Starships of the Galaxy Saga Edition, for example.

THERE IS NO DOWN-SIDE!

They were riding dewbacks in ANH! AT-ST's and AT-AT's were clearly developed later why were they in Rebels!!! RAARHGH!!11!!!EINZ!!RAGE!

I'll grant some of the back and forth but taking multi-ton bipedal or quadrapedal vehicles into a sand environment would be retarded. They would sink and get stuck almost instantly. Dewbacks are cheaper than state of the art tanks pretty much and if they get killed meh you save feeding costs. Just admit some things in Rebels could have been handled better instead of throwing a tantrum about nerd rage tantrums.

Me, throwing a tantrum? Nah, I'm feeling peachy, skipper! :D.

People seem to be under the impression that just because they read something in a book, that that is the truth, the whole truth and immutable truth. Too much weight is put into canonicity.

Enjoy stuff, let the writers sort things out. Everything is true, from a certain point of view.

From my point of view the Jedi are evil.

They also had AT-AT's durign the battle of Jakku

Having blue and gray is driving me nuts. I am on the fence about painting everything the same colors but I am afraid to mess them up.

And think of the people they killed on darth Star 1 and 2, tons more then the imp did. WHO ARE THE REAL bad guys, with only the movies being cannon, its the rebels by far, lead by the JEDI. Luke alone is at 360k and Darth Vader is only at 60 so mmmmm yea,
